Stray Any% and the I am Speed trophy are different goals. Any% is a leaderboard category governed by a selected platform board and ruleset; the trophy is a personal challenge to finish the game in under two hours on PS4 or PS5. You can earn the trophy without submitting a ranked run.
For a first attempt, learn the game once, then aim for a safe completion around 1:30. That leaves about 30 minutes beneath the strict two-hour limit for mistakes. Choose an Any% run when your priority is ranked competition, route optimization, and a time that can be compared with other runners under the same rules.

What the two goals actually measure
The word “speedrun” covers two related but separate activities in Stray. A trophy-focused run asks one question: can you complete the game in less than two hours and unlock I am Speed? An Any% run asks a different question: how quickly can you finish under the rules of a particular Speedrun.com board?

Those objectives overlap because both require a complete playthrough, but the standards for success are not interchangeable. A trophy run can be entirely private. You do not need an account, video proof, a leaderboard submission, or a board-legal route to earn the in-game reward. Conversely, a fast personal completion is not automatically an Any% result that belongs on a leaderboard.

The distinction matters whenever you quote a time. “I finished Stray in 1:42” is a trophy achievement unless you also identify the platform board and ruleset used for a leaderboard attempt. A Current Gen Glitchless time, a PC Unrestricted time, and a Last Gen time are measured in different competitive contexts.
How Stray’s Any% categories are organized
Speedrun.com lists full-game Any% and 100% categories for Stray. The site separates boards by platform generation—Current Gen, Last Gen, and PC—and then separates Glitchless and Unrestricted rulesets. A category name therefore contains more information than simply “Any%.” It tells readers which version of the game and which permitted techniques produced the time.
Any% versus 100%
Any% is a finish-as-fast-as-the-selected-board-allows category. It does not require collecting every item or completing every optional objective. The 100% category is a different leaderboard with its own completion standard; a 100% time should not be compared with an Any% time even when both are played on the same platform.

Current Gen, Last Gen, and PC boards
Current Gen and Last Gen boards represent different console generations, while PC is maintained as its own platform category. Hardware, loading behavior, controls, and version-specific performance can affect a route and its final time. Keep the platform label attached whenever you record or discuss a result.
Glitchless and Unrestricted
Glitchless and Unrestricted are separate rulesets. A Glitchless run follows the techniques allowed by the Glitchless rules; an Unrestricted run may use additional exploits accepted by that board. A route that is valid for Unrestricted is not automatically valid for Glitchless. If you are practicing for a trophy, you may choose whatever route helps you finish, but do not call it a Glitchless leaderboard run unless every technique and timing detail follows that board’s rules.
What the leaderboard snapshot tells you
The cited Stray page snapshot reports 2,127 runs, 714 players, and 1,490 followers. Those figures show that the category has an established community, but they are a point-in-time count rather than a permanent total. The page also carries a rule-change notice: individual-level runs now end at the first checkpoint of a future chapter. Rules can change, so read the live category rules immediately before submitting.
What the I am Speed trophy requires
The trophy description is direct: “Complete the game in less than 2 hours.” The listing covers both PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5. “Less than” is strict: a completion at exactly two hours does not satisfy a condition written as under two hours, so plan for a margin rather than targeting 1:59:59.

The trophy text does not require every other trophy, all collectibles, or a leaderboard submission. It also does not define a Glitchless or Unrestricted ruleset. Your objective is simply a qualifying game completion on a supported console platform.
Why a trophy time is not an automatic leaderboard time
Leaderboard categories are defined by the rules published for that board. A private trophy attempt may use a route, skip, timing method, or platform configuration that does not match the board you have in mind. Even when it happens to be legal, it has not become a ranked result until you submit it in the format and under the evidence requirements that the category currently specifies.
Think of the trophy as a pass/fail achievement and Any% as a standardized competition. The first asks whether you crossed one threshold. The second asks how your performance ranks among runs made under the same published conditions.

Which should you try first?
Choose the trophy route when the reward is your priority
If you have never speedrun Stray, start with the trophy. It gives you a clear finish line without forcing you to learn submission standards or compare hardware-specific times. You can concentrate on completing the game consistently, then decide later whether you want to convert that knowledge into a leaderboard attempt.

A roughly 1:30 completion is a sensible practice target because it leaves about 30 minutes of room under the two-hour requirement. That buffer absorbs missed jumps, slow puzzle solutions, navigation errors, loading interruptions, and the occasional reset without turning one mistake into an automatic failure. You do not need to set a record to earn the trophy; you need a repeatable run with time in reserve.
Choose Any% when ranking is the point
Pick Any% if you enjoy optimizing a route, studying other runners’ techniques, and submitting a verifiable result. Decide the platform and ruleset before you compare times. A leaderboard goal is most useful when you can state it precisely: for example, a PC Glitchless Any% run or a Current Gen Unrestricted Any% run. Without those labels, the number lacks competitive context.
Choose 100% only if completion is the challenge
100% is appropriate when collecting and completing everything is part of what you want to optimize. It is not a faster version of Any%; it is a separate objective with a different route and time expectation. If your immediate goal is I am Speed, adding 100% tasks works against the under-two-hour requirement.

A first-attempt plan for the trophy
- Play once without the clock. Learn the chapter order, the two hub-like areas, puzzle solutions, and the movement lines that feel reliable. The purpose of this playthrough is memory, not pace.
- Write a route outline. Divide the game into recognizable sections and note the required objectives in each one. Keep the outline short enough to scan while playing; a reminder of the next action is more useful than a full walkthrough.
- Practice transitions. Most lost time comes from hesitation between objectives. Rehearse the movement line into each section and the first action after every loading transition until you can begin without searching.
- Set a conservative target. Aim for approximately 1:30 on practice runs. This is a safety target, not a claim about the leaderboard. If your first complete attempt is slower, identify where the time went instead of restarting immediately.
- Run with a timer and record the result. A simple timer helps you identify the sections that need work. Recording is optional for the trophy, but it lets you review pauses, detours, and failed inputs accurately.
- Reset deliberately. If an early mistake costs only a few seconds, continue and practice recovery. Reset when the lost time threatens the buffer you need, not whenever a run is imperfect.
- Check the final time against the strict limit. The qualifying condition is less than two hours. Do not rely on an estimate from a menu or a split; verify that the completed game finishes under the threshold on your PS4 or PS5.
Turning a successful trophy run into an Any% attempt
Once you can finish comfortably under two hours, choose the exact board you want to enter. Start by locking three labels: platform (PC, Current Gen, or Last Gen), category (Any%), and ruleset (Glitchless or Unrestricted). Then read that board’s current rules, timing definition, and submission instructions.
Crashes, No Sound, or Screen Glitches?

Your trophy route is a baseline, not a guaranteed leaderboard route. Compare it with the techniques allowed by the selected board and replace slow, uncertain actions with practiced alternatives. If you switch from a personal run to Glitchless, remove any exploit that the rules exclude. If you switch to Unrestricted, learn only the additional techniques that are legal and consistent for your setup.
Track splits by meaningful sections
Use splits at natural transitions rather than arbitrary intervals. A split should answer a question such as “How quickly did I complete this hub?” or “Where did this attempt lose its buffer?” Over several attempts, section splits reveal whether your problem is execution, routing, or recovery after an error.
Preserve comparability
Keep platform and ruleset in the run title, notes, and personal records. Never compare a PC result directly with a console result or a Glitchless time with an Unrestricted time as though they were one table. If the site changes a rule, treat runs before and after the change according to the board’s stated policy.
Prepare evidence before submitting
Read the live submission requirements rather than relying on an older guide. The category page’s rule-change notice demonstrates why this matters: the accepted end point for individual-level runs can change. Make sure your recording, timing method, and endpoint match the current board before you invest in a record attempt.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesCommon mistakes and how to correct them
Calling every sub-two-hour completion “Any%”
A sub-two-hour completion proves the trophy condition, not a specific leaderboard category. Correct the description by naming it a trophy run unless you have selected and followed a board’s rules.
Comparing times from different boards
Platform generation and glitch policy materially change what a time means. Put the board label next to every comparison and evaluate progress within that board first.

Targeting 1:59 instead of building a buffer
A route that barely beats two hours is fragile. Use the cited 1:30 target as a practical buffer goal. If your run is near the limit, improve the largest repeatable delays before attempting the trophy again.
Learning speed techniques before learning the game
Advanced movement cannot compensate for uncertainty about chapter order or puzzles. A complete learning playthrough usually saves more time than repeatedly restarting a run because the next objective is unclear.
Assuming rules never change
Speedrun boards are maintained documents. Check the current rules and endpoint notice immediately before submitting, especially if your route was learned from an older video or guide.
Adding completion tasks to a trophy attempt
Collecting every item or chasing unrelated trophies is not required by the I am Speed condition. Extra objectives add time and can erase your safety margin. Keep the trophy route focused on game completion.
How to report your result accurately
For a personal achievement, report the platform, completion time, and that the goal was I am Speed. For a competitive result, report the platform generation, Any% category, Glitchless or Unrestricted ruleset, and whether the run was submitted under the current rules. This small amount of context prevents readers from treating unlike performances as equivalent.
The most useful personal benchmark is consistency: several finishes with a buffer are more valuable than one barely qualifying attempt. The most useful leaderboard benchmark is comparability: a time has meaning when other runners can identify the same board, ruleset, platform, and accepted endpoint.
