Stray trophy completion at a glance
Stray has no selectable difficulty setting, so there is no hard-mode trophy or difficulty-related requirement. The main challenge is managing collectibles and route timing rather than overcoming a punishing combat difficulty. Your final time depends heavily on whether you search thoroughly, how familiar you are with each chapter, and whether you follow a practiced route.

These figures are guide-author estimates, not developer benchmarks or timed laboratory results. They describe different assumptions, so the spread is not a contradiction. A player who already knows the chapter layouts and collectible locations may finish near the lower end. A first-time player who explores naturally and checks missed items afterward should budget closer to 10–12 hours.
How difficult is the Stray platinum?
The completion sits in the easy-to-moderate range. The published ratings span 3.5/10 to 6/10, with no source placing it in a genuinely demanding tier. Because the game does not offer difficulty choices, every player works toward the same gameplay requirements; there is no separate trophy for selecting a harder mode.

What makes it manageable
- There is no difficulty-setting decision that can lock you out of a trophy.
- Most objectives can be recovered through chapter replay after the story.
- The game can be completed in one minimum playthrough, although two runs are less stressful.
What raises the practical difficulty
- Collectible searching takes longer when you do not know where memories, badges, and music sheets are located.
- A speedrun requires a complete finish in less than two hours, so detours and hesitation matter.
- Attempting exploration and the speedrun simultaneously gives you little time to recover from a mistake.
In other words, the rating reflects planning and route familiarity as much as moment-to-moment gameplay. If you separate the careful collection run from the timed run, the demanding part becomes a focused routing exercise rather than an all-purpose challenge.
How long does it take to platinum Stray?
Plan for 6–12 hours overall. PowerPyx gives the shortest published estimate at 6–8 hours, while PlayStationTrophies.org and XboxAchievements each give 10–12 hours. For a first attempt in which you want to investigate chapters properly and return for missed objectives, 10–12 hours is the safer budget. Players who use known routes and spend little time searching can approach the 6–8-hour estimate.
Why the estimates differ
- Route knowledge: A practiced route removes pauses, wrong turns, and repeated searches.
- Collectible strategy: Finding memories, badges, and music sheets during normal play is slower when you stop to search every area, but postponing them may require chapter replays.
- Definition of completion: Some guides assume a clean two-run plan; others describe the minimum possible route or a more thorough first playthrough.
- Platform and version: PlayStation trophy and Xbox achievement guides cover different ecosystems, and individual loading or control conditions can affect a personal total.
The under-two-hour requirement for I am Speed is a separate target from the total platinum time. You do not need to complete the entire game in two hours on your first exploratory run; you need one successful run below that limit.

I am Speed is the key missable risk. PowerPyx identifies one missable trophy because the game must be completed in under two hours. If the run exceeds that limit, the speedrun trophy is missed for that attempt and requires another qualifying run.
Other guides use a different definition. PlayStationTrophies.org and XboxAchievements list zero missables because chapter select lets you replay sections after finishing the story and recover other trophies or collectibles. Both descriptions can be correct when you understand what “missable” means:

- Strict definition: A trophy is missable if failing its condition during the relevant run means you must start another complete run. Under this definition, I am Speed is the one missable trophy.
- Chapter-select definition: A trophy is non-missable if a later chapter replay can recover it. Under this definition, the list can show zero missables even though the speedrun still has a hard time limit.
Do not interpret the zero-missable label as permission to ignore the timer. Treat I am Speed as the only objective that can force a fresh full-game attempt, and plan around it from the start.
Do you need two playthroughs?
No, two playthroughs are not technically required. PowerPyx states that one minimum playthrough is possible, and an experienced player can combine story progress, collectibles, miscellaneous actions, and the speedrun in a single practiced route. That approach is efficient only when you already know the chapters and the locations of the required objectives.
For a first platinum, two runs are the low-stress recommendation. Separating the objectives protects the speedrun from exploratory pauses and gives you a chance to learn the route before the timer matters.
Run one: exploration and collectibles
- Play the story normally without trying to maintain a speedrun pace.
- Search for memories, badges, and music sheets as you move through each chapter.
- Perform miscellaneous trophy actions when you encounter their opportunities rather than forcing them into the timed run.
- Pay attention to chapter layouts, transitions, and any route that saves backtracking.
- Finish the story even if one or more collectibles remain; chapter select can be used for cleanup.
Run two: the practiced speedrun
- Start a fresh attempt using the route you learned during the first run.
- Avoid optional exploration and collectible detours unless they are required by your route.
- Keep the entire game under two hours to earn I am Speed.
- If the attempt goes over the limit, treat it as practice and restart with the sections that caused the delay.
Cleanup after the story
Use chapter select to revisit chapters for any remaining memories, badges, music sheets, or miscellaneous trophy actions. This cleanup phase is why a first-time player does not need to risk the speedrun by stopping to search every corner. It also lets you target a single missed objective instead of replaying the entire game.
How to approach the I am Speed trophy
I am Speed requires finishing the game in under two hours. The requirement applies to the complete run, not merely to one chapter, so the safest method is to practice the route before making your qualifying attempt.

Prepare before starting the timed attempt
- Complete an exploratory run or study a reliable route so you are not learning chapter layouts under pressure.
- Know which actions are mandatory and which collectibles or diversions can be postponed.
- Decide in advance where you will move directly through an area instead of searching.
- Leave enough margin for minor mistakes; finishing exactly at the limit is riskier than targeting a comfortably faster time.
During the run
- Prioritize forward progress over optional items.
- Avoid opening searches for memories, badges, or music sheets unless your planned route specifically includes them.
- If you lose time in one section, continue far enough to learn the problem before deciding whether to restart.
- Verify that the game has registered the completion requirement after finishing the run.
Because the trophy has a strict cutoff, a route that is merely possible is not necessarily a good first attempt. The value of the first playthrough is that it converts unknown navigation into repeatable movement, giving the second run enough margin for ordinary errors.

Can chapter select clean up trophies?
Yes. After completing the story, chapter select makes cleanup practical for the trophies and collectibles that do not depend on the two-hour completion condition. You can return to the relevant chapter, collect a missed memory, badge, or music sheet, perform a missed miscellaneous action, and then move on without replaying the entire campaign.
Use chapter select for targeted recovery
- Identify the chapter associated with the missing objective.
- Launch that chapter from the chapter-select menu.
- Complete the collectible or action you missed.
- Allow the game to register the result before leaving or switching chapters.
- Repeat for the remaining items until the trophy list is complete.
Chapter select does not remove the speedrun requirement. A slow exploratory completion cannot be converted into I am Speed afterward; you still need a separate full run that finishes below two hours.

Trying to collect everything during the speedrun
This is the most avoidable source of pressure. Searching every room while racing the clock combines the longest parts of the completion into one attempt. Collect normally on the first run and reserve the timer for a practiced route.
Assuming “zero missables” means the timer is irrelevant
The zero-missable classification used by some guides refers to chapter replay, not to the removal of the speed limit. Treat I am Speed as missable in practical terms.

Using the fastest estimate as a guarantee
The 6–8-hour figure is an estimate from PowerPyx, not a promise that every first-time player will finish in that window. Search time, route familiarity, and platform conditions can move the total toward the 10–12-hour estimates reported by the other guides.
Confusing trophy and achievement coverage
PlayStation guides discuss a platinum, while XboxAchievements reports a 1000G completion. The planning principles are comparable, but the platform-specific lists and terminology are not interchangeable without checking the version you are playing.
PlayStation and Xbox version notes
The trophy discussion applies to the PlayStation versions, while XboxAchievements covers the Xbox achievement set. An official PlayStation Blog Japan announcement records a packaged PS4/PS5 edition released on November 22, 2023, with standard and special editions. That release date identifies the edition, but it does not establish current stock, regional pricing, or availability.
Whichever platform you use, confirm that your guide matches the platform’s trophy or achievement list before following a checklist. The difficulty and timing estimates above are guide-level approximations, and your route familiarity will matter more than the label on the edition.

For most players, the best balance of reliability and time is:
- First run: Explore, collect memories, badges, and music sheets, and complete miscellaneous trophy actions when convenient.
- Second run: Follow a practiced, direct route and finish the game in under two hours for I am Speed.
- Final cleanup: Use chapter select to collect anything missed on the first run.
Choose a one-run strategy only if you already know the route and are comfortable planning every collectible around the timer. Otherwise, the two-run method turns the only genuinely time-sensitive trophy into a controlled second attempt while keeping the overall completion within the published 6–12-hour range.
