If a Stray trophy or Steam Achievement stays locked, first identify the platform, update the game, and reread the exact requirement. Then retry the trigger from an earlier save. On PlayStation, refresh your PSN session by signing out, rebooting, and signing back in if the notification or list is delayed. On Steam, use the game’s achievement page and current build, then repeat the action. There is no supported manual-unlock procedure in the official guidance; persistent failures should go to PlayStation Support or the official Steam support channels.
Start by identifying which achievement system you are using
Stray does not use one universal trophy database. A PlayStation 4 or PlayStation 5 copy reports trophies through the console’s trophy list and PSN. A PlayStation game played on PC can expose the PlayStation overlay and its trophy list when that title supports the feature. A Steam copy uses Steam Achievements instead. The same in-game action can therefore have a different reporting path depending on where you play.

Do not apply a PlayStation fix to a Steam record or assume that a Steam achievement will appear in a PSN list. Confirm the platform before changing saves or repeating a chapter.
Use this order before attempting a difficult replay
- Open the relevant list. Read the locked trophy or achievement’s complete wording rather than relying on memory or a guide title.
- Check the game version. Install every available update before testing the trigger again.
- Confirm the exact conditions. A similar action, or an action performed in the wrong place or sequence, may not satisfy the requirement.
- Allow for reporting delay. Stay online and wait briefly if the notification has not appeared.
- Refresh the account session where applicable. On PlayStation, sign out of PSN, reboot the console, sign back in, and inspect the list again.
- Replay from a suitable save. Load a save made before the trigger and perform the complete requirement again.
- Escalate with details. If the list remains locked, contact the platform’s official support route instead of using an unofficial unlock method.
This sequence separates a missed condition, an outdated build, a delayed notification, and a persistent account or game-state problem without risking unnecessary changes to your saves.

Update Stray before troubleshooting
Updating is especially important for the Scratch trophy. The official Steam announcement for Hotfix 2, dated 22 July 2022, says: “Fix for scratch trophy for keyboard and mouse players.” If you played on a PC with keyboard and mouse and Scratch did not unlock, install the current update and repeat the complete scratch interaction rather than assuming the old attempt will be repaired automatically.
Later patches addressed defects that could prevent the game from reaching the state in which an achievement condition is evaluated:

These notes establish that known game-state and progression defects were fixed. They do not establish that an already-missed trophy will be granted automatically after installation. Treat the update as a prerequisite for a clean retry, not as a guarantee that the old attempt will be backfilled.

1. Read the trophy requirement in the console list
Open Stray’s trophy list and select the locked entry. Compare every part of its wording with what you actually did. Trophy requirements can include several specific conditions; completing a similar action is not enough. For a named trophy such as Scratch or Territory, use the wording shown on your system as the authority for the required action.
2. Verify that the console is online
Make sure the console has an active internet connection and that you are using the PSN account that earned the progress. If the game action has just been completed, wait briefly before concluding that it failed. A delayed unlock notification does not by itself prove that the requirement was missed.
3. Refresh PSN after a delayed or missing notification
- Sign out of PSN completely on the console.
- Reboot the console.
- Sign back in to the same PSN account.
- Open the Stray trophy list and check the entry again.
This refresh addresses delayed account reporting. It does not create a trophy that was never triggered, so continue to the replay step if the entry remains locked.

4. Replay from before the trigger
Load a save from before the required action. Perform the full requirement again, including any prerequisite actions and the correct order described in the trophy text. Check the list after the attempt. If the game has multiple save slots, note which slot you used so support can reproduce the situation from your description.
5. Escalate if the second attempt still fails
Contact PlayStation Support when the requirement has been verified, the game is updated, the PSN session has been refreshed, and a clean replay still leaves the trophy locked. Do not assume support can manually grant a trophy; the cited support guidance recommends contacting them but does not promise a manual award.
PlayStation games on PC: check the overlay, not a Steam list
When you are playing a PlayStation game on PC with trophy support, press Shift+F1 to open the PlayStation overlay, then select Trophies. PlayStation’s PC guidance says the overlay displays the game’s trophy groups and, when supported, tracks progress according to the game being played across PC and console.
Use that overlay to read the exact locked requirement and to confirm whether the game has registered progress. If the overlay is not showing the expected list, first verify that you are signed in to the intended PlayStation account and that the title supports the PC trophy feature. Do not substitute the Steam achievement page unless you are actually running the Steam version; the platform determines which record is being checked.
After updating the game, repeat the trigger while the overlay is available. If the action succeeds in-game but the PlayStation entry remains locked, record the game version, account, trophy name, and save slot before contacting the appropriate official support channel.

Steam on PC: verify the achievement and retry on the current build
Open the Steam achievement page
Open Stray’s Steam achievement page and select the locked item. Compare its complete trigger text with the sequence you performed. This is the correct record for the Steam edition; a PlayStation trophy list cannot confirm whether Steam has registered the event.

Install the current update
Allow Steam to finish installing the latest available Stray update. This matters most for the Scratch trophy if you use keyboard and mouse, because Hotfix 2 explicitly fixed that case. It also matters for progression blockers and collision or navigation defects addressed in later patches.
Repeat the requirement
Return to a save before the trigger when possible and perform the entire requirement again. For Scratch, repeat the interaction after the hotfix rather than relying on an attempt made before the fix. Check the Steam achievement page after the action has completed.
Use official PC support if the entry remains locked
The official Steam support page identifies Stray as a Steam Achievements title and directs players toward official support and technical discussions for PC issues. Include the locked achievement name, the game version, your input method when relevant, the save slot, and a concise description of the successful retry.
How to tell a missed trigger from a delayed report
A missing pop-up is not conclusive. The notification can be delayed, so check the list itself after waiting briefly and, on PlayStation, after the PSN sign-out and reboot sequence. Conversely, seeing the action complete in the game does not prove that every condition in the trophy text was met.
- Likely delayed reporting: the requirement was completed exactly, the console or PC is online, and the list changes after a short wait or account refresh.
- Likely missed condition: the list remains locked and the action was only similar to the wording, occurred in the wrong context, or skipped a prerequisite.
- Possible game-state defect: progression was blocked, you fell through the world, collision or navigation prevented the expected sequence, or you played before a patch that addressed the relevant defect.
- Persistent record problem: the updated game, exact replay, and account refresh still produce a locked entry. At that point, gather evidence for official support rather than repeatedly altering the save.
This classification keeps troubleshooting focused: refresh the account for a delay, replay the requirement for a missed condition, and escalate a reproducible failure after updating.

Use a save made before the achievement trigger whenever one is available. Write down the slot and the point at which you began the retry. This gives you a clear before-and-after account for support and prevents confusion about which attempt produced the result.

When a patch fixed a progression blocker, replay the affected sequence on the updated build. Patch 3 specifically mentions the blocker encountered while giving Seamus the tracker, along with falling-through-the-world and other out-of-bounds fixes. If your route was interrupted by one of those defects, reaching the corrected sequence may require loading an earlier save rather than simply opening the old completed state.

Do not treat a successful replay as proof that every earlier attempt will be credited retroactively. The patch notes document fixes, not automatic repair of an existing locked trophy record.
What not to do when a trophy is stuck
The cited official guidance does not support deleting a save, changing the system clock, using a third-party unlocker, or buying a different edition as a repair. Those actions can remove useful evidence, create a different platform record, or leave the underlying trigger untouched.
- Do not delete the only save before you have recorded the slot and attempted the supported replay.
- Do not change the system time as a substitute for satisfying the requirement.
- Do not use an unofficial unlocker to alter a platform achievement or trophy record.
- Do not assume another edition will transfer the missing award. PlayStation trophies and Steam Achievements are separate platform systems.
There is no supported manual-unlock procedure in the guidance used for this troubleshooting path. The reliable options are to verify, update, refresh, replay, and escalate.
What to include in a support request
A precise report is more useful than “the trophy is bugged.” Include:

For PlayStation, send this information to PlayStation Support. For Steam, use the official Steam support route and technical discussions linked from the game’s support page. Keep the description factual: report what the list shows and what you repeated, without promising that support can manually award the trophy.
A concise decision tree
- Is this Steam or PlayStation? Open the matching achievement or trophy list.
- Is the exact requirement satisfied? If not certain, reread the wording and perform every condition in order.
- Is the game updated? If not, install the update before another attempt.
- Could the notification be delayed? Wait briefly; on PlayStation, sign out, reboot, sign in, and check again.
- Does the list remain locked? Load a pre-trigger save and replay the complete requirement.
- Did the updated replay still fail? Gather the platform, version, trophy name, save slot, and event details, then contact official support.
For keyboard-and-mouse players whose Scratch trophy failed, Hotfix 2 makes the update-and-replay branch the first priority. For a sequence affected by falling through the world, the Seamus tracker progression blocker, collision, navigation, or crashes, use the current build and an earlier save before escalating.
