If your main goal is unattended playback of prerecorded video, assess that as a separate requirement: YouTube’s verified-encoder directory also lists dedicated continuous-streaming services and hardware.

Can StreamYard stream 24/7 on YouTube?
StreamYard supports YouTube as a destination and offers browser-based live production. Its documentation also describes prerecorded streaming and scheduling. Those features can suit a programmed show or an interview, but they do not prove that a StreamYard session will keep prerecorded content playing unattended around the clock. If continuous playout is essential, confirm the exact product workflow and recovery behavior before relying on it.
Is OBS good for 24/7 YouTube streaming?
OBS is a verified YouTube software encoder and can provide local control over scenes and encoding. A 24/7 run adds operational dependencies: the computer must remain powered, the internet connection must stay available, the system must sustain its encoding and scene load, and someone needs a way to detect and recover from interruptions. The OBS Project cautions that a compatible system does not necessarily have the capacity to stream or record; requirements vary with the workload. See OBS system requirements.

Neither compatibility nor a successful initial broadcast is a promise of unattended uptime. Decide how you will monitor the stream and restart the encoder or broadcast after a failure; the reviewed official guidance does not prescribe a complete failover design.
How do I connect an encoder to YouTube?
- Enable live streaming in advance. YouTube says first-time live activation may take up to 24 hours, so do not wait until the planned start time to set up a new channel for its first broadcast. YouTube’s encoder guide.
- In YouTube Studio, create or open the live stream setup and obtain its stream URL and stream key. Follow YouTube’s current encoder workflow for the stream details. Treat the key as a password: do not publish it, send it to guests, or include it in a public screenshot.
- Enter the stream URL and key in the encoder, then start the encoder. YouTube documents this connection workflow for encoder broadcasts. Confirm the correct stream is selected before starting a long session.
- Check the live preview and monitor the broadcast. For a long run, plan for power and internet continuity, watch for interruptions, and know who will take action if the encoder or stream stops. An Ethernet connection is a practical option for the streaming computer when available, but it does not guarantee uptime.
- Plan archives around YouTube’s stated limit. YouTube says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived. Its guidance does not promise automatic archiving for longer sessions, so if you need an archive, check current YouTube controls and plan sessions accordingly rather than assuming a continuous stream will produce a saved video.
What StreamYard requires on a desktop
StreamYard recommends at least 5 Mbps upload and download, connecting by Ethernet when possible, and a modern quad-core computer. Its desktop guidance gives 4 GB as minimum RAM and recommends 6–8 GB. Common problems and practical checks
- First broadcast cannot start: if the channel has never streamed live, activation may take up to 24 hours. Enable it well before the intended broadcast.
- Encoder cannot connect: check that the stream URL and key match the YouTube live setup you intend to use. Keep the key private; if it may have been exposed, replace it in YouTube Studio and update the encoder.
- Stream drops during a long run: check power, internet continuity and whether the computer or encoder is still running. Have a recovery procedure rather than assuming the software will resume unattended.
- Computer struggles under load: the result depends on encoder, resolution, frame rate and scene complexity. Reduce workload or use hardware with sufficient capacity; OBS compatibility by itself does not guarantee performance.
- Unreliable Wi-Fi: StreamYard recommends Ethernet where possible. A wired connection can address some wireless instability, but cannot prevent power, ISP or platform interruptions.
- Expected archive is missing: YouTube’s automatic-archive guidance applies to streams under 12 hours. Verify current controls and session planning for longer broadcasts.
Which option should you choose?
- Choose StreamYard when browser-based guest handling, branded layouts and comments are the production priorities, and verify that its specific scheduled or prerecorded workflow meets your operational needs.
- Choose OBS when local control over scenes and encoding matters, and you can maintain and monitor the computer running it.
