To rotate prerecorded podcast episodes on YouTube Live, use a playout source to send the episodes in sequence and YouTube Studio or the Live Streaming API to manage the broadcast. YouTube does not generate the playlist for you. For an always-on loop, the playout source must keep sending a continuous feed; a local encoder depends on your computer and internet connection, while a cloud service can run outside your home setup.
For Indian creators, the basic YouTube workflow is the same as elsewhere. Before choosing a cloud provider, check its current availability in India and accepted payment methods, and make sure your internet connection can support a continuous local stream if you choose that route.
Choose between one continuous stream and separate episode events
First decide what viewers should see. A single continuous stream can play a rotating playlist of episodes without creating a new event for each one. Alternatively, schedule a distinct YouTube Live event for every episode. These are different workflows: playlist rotation determines what content plays, while YouTube broadcast management determines which live event viewers can watch.
- One continuous stream: A playout source sends episodes one after another through an ongoing encoder feed. This suits a 24/7 channel, but do not assume each episode will become its own YouTube archive.
- Separate scheduled events: Create a distinct broadcast for each episode and use a reusable stream configuration. This makes the event schedule explicit, but requires broadcast lifecycle management for each show.
What you need to automate
The system has two jobs. A local or cloud encoder reads the episode playlist and produces the audio/video feed. YouTube Studio or the Live Streaming API manages the viewer-facing broadcast, schedule, and lifecycle. The API can manage broadcasts; it does not select or play the next podcast episode.

For recurring scheduled episodes
Google’s API model separates a liveStream, which holds reusable encoder settings, from a liveBroadcast, which represents an individual episode event. Broadcasts for the same show can use the same stream at different times, with only one event live at a time. The API can optionally start a broadcast when the encoder begins sending and end it about a minute after sending stops if auto-start and auto-stop are enabled. Check that the stream status is active before transitioning a broadcast to public live. See Google’s Live Streaming API documentation.
For a continuous prerecorded loop
Configure a playout source to send one ongoing feed containing the playlist. A local software or hardware encoder gives you direct control, but the computer or equipment, power, and upload connection must remain available. Cloud playout moves that sending work outside your home setup; check the provider’s current service availability, recovery behavior, archive controls, and India support before relying on it.

Set up a local YouTube Live rotation
- Enable live streaming. In YouTube Studio, enable live streaming for your channel. YouTube says first-time activation can take up to 24 hours. See YouTube Help: Get started with live streaming.
- Prepare the episodes. Put the prerecorded episodes in the order you want them played and configure your encoder’s playlist or media source to advance to the next episode. Confirm that each file has usable audio and video and that the playlist behaves as intended before going live.
- Create the broadcast. In YouTube Studio, schedule or create the live event if you want a viewer-facing scheduled broadcast. For separate episode events managed through the API, create a broadcast for each episode and reuse the appropriate stream configuration.
- Connect the encoder. Copy the YouTube Live server URL and stream key into your encoder. Treat the stream key like a password: do not publish it or share it. YouTube’s encoder setup instructions are at Create a YouTube live stream with an encoder.
- Preview and verify. Start the encoder and wait for YouTube’s preview or stream status to show an incoming, active feed. For a scheduled Studio stream, YouTube’s ordinary instructions include clicking Go live after the preview appears. API automation can handle some lifecycle steps, but it does not replace the encoder.
- Keep the source running. For local playout, leave the encoder process, computer, power, and internet connection available for the full rotation. If the process or connection stops, the feed stops until it is restored.
Automate broadcast lifecycle with the Live Streaming API
The API is useful when you need to programmatically create and manage scheduled events. It complements, rather than replaces, the playout system.
- Create or reuse a
liveStreamwith the encoder settings and connect your encoder to its stream credentials. - Create a
liveBroadcastfor each episode that needs its own scheduled event, then bind it to the stream as appropriate. - Start sending the episode playlist from the encoder and confirm the stream is active.
- Transition the broadcast to live only when the feed is ready. If enabled, auto-start and auto-stop can start the event when sending begins and end it about a minute after sending stops.
For the API’s resource model and lifecycle details, use Google’s YouTube Live Streaming API documentation. An API workflow still needs a reliable encoder or playout source to supply the actual episodes.

Plan YouTube archives separately from the playlist
YouTube states that streams under 12 hours are automatically archived. That does not mean a continuous 24/7 rotation will create one archive per podcast episode. Playlist rotation and archive creation are separate concerns. Decide whether you need separate viewer-facing events or episode archives, and verify that the exact encoder and broadcast workflow supports the archive behavior you want before launch.
The API documentation describes a long-running broadcast alongside a separate interview broadcast; a provider may also offer broadcast rotation, but that capability is specific to its own product. Do not rely on an endless stream to split itself into episode videos.

Compare ways to run the playlist
| Approach | Best fit | What to account for |
|---|---|---|
| StreamNeo | Creators who want prerecorded episodes to run continuously from the cloud on YouTube. | Upload videos, add the YouTube stream key, and go live. It runs in the cloud, supports automatic recovery if YouTube drops the stream, and streams uploaded video as made up to 4K 60fps at one flat price per slot; the first day is free. |
| Local software encoder | Creators who already have a computer and want direct control of the playlist. | The computer, power, and upload connection must stay available. Process supervision and recovery are your responsibility. |
| Standalone hardware encoder | Creators who already own compatible equipment or want dedicated broadcast hardware. | It adds equipment and setup, and does not necessarily provide playlist scheduling. Hardware is an option, not a YouTube requirement. |
| YouTube Live Streaming API | Technical operators who need programmatic scheduling and broadcast-state management. | It manages streams and broadcasts, not episode playback; an encoder or playout layer must still produce the feed. |
| Other cloud playout | Creators seeking unattended rotation without a home computer sending the stream. | Verify current service availability in India, costs, continuity, recovery, and archive behavior. LiveGoLive describes continuous looping, scheduled operation, reconnection, and connected-mode broadcast rotation, but its page says YouTube connection is in beta and points to a waitlist; confirm availability before considering it. See LiveGoLive. |
Or let it run in the cloud
With StreamNeo, upload your prerecorded episodes, add your YouTube stream key, and go live. It loops uploaded videos from the cloud, so nothing has to stay on at home. India-specific checks before going live
- The YouTube setup and API workflow described here is not a separate India-only process.
- For a local encoder, confirm your upload connection is stable enough for continuous sending. For a cloud provider, check present India availability and payment options directly with that provider.
- Make sure you have the rights to every podcast’s audio, video, music, and other material you stream. The workflow does not grant permission to rebroadcast someone else’s work.
Troubleshoot common rotation problems
| Symptom | Likely cause | What to check |
|---|---|---|
| YouTube receives no feed | The encoder is stopped, the server URL or stream key is incorrect, or the local connection is unavailable. | Confirm the encoder is running, recheck the URL and key in the encoder, and verify that YouTube reports an incoming stream. |
| Feed arrives but the event is not public live | The broadcast has not been transitioned to live, or an API lifecycle step occurred before the stream became active. | Wait for the active stream status, then use the Studio Go live control or the appropriate API transition. |
| Episodes do not advance | The playlist or media source is not configured to continue through the files, or the encoder process has stopped. | Test the playlist outside the live event, confirm its order and advance behavior, and monitor the encoder process. |
| Local stream drops when unattended | The computer, power, encoder process, or home upload connection went offline. | Restore the local source and connection; if unattended operation is essential, consider a cloud playout service and verify its recovery behavior. |
| One long archive contains multiple episodes | The feed was treated as one continuous broadcast rather than separate episode events. | Plan separate scheduled broadcasts or another verified archive workflow; do not assume a 24/7 stream splits into one video per episode. |
