A free scan shows the junk files, broken settings and background clutter dragging Windows down - then fixes them in one click.Free scan · Windows 10 & 11Short answer: the four major live-action Street Fighter screen projects are best treated as separate adaptations, not chapters in one confirmed movie universe. The practical first-time order is release order: Street Fighter (1994), Street Fighter: The Legend of Chun-Li (2009), Street Fighter: Assassin’s Fist (2014), then Street Fighter (2026). All draw from Capcom’s fighting-game franchise, but each uses a different lead, premise and storytelling format.
The 1994 feature is a Guile-led hostage crisis; The Legend of Chun-Li is a Chun-Li origin story; Assassin’s Fist follows Ryu and Ken’s training and the history of Ansatsuken; and the 2026 film is a 1993-set World Warrior Tournament story centered on Ryu, Ken and Chun-Li.

Are the Street Fighter movies connected?
No searched official source establishes a shared film timeline. The projects have distinct premises, lead characters and production histories, so the clearest and safest way to describe them is as standalone adaptations of the Street Fighter games.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteThat is an evidence-based viewing description rather than a formal Capcom declaration that every film is “non-canon.” Capcom’s announcements identify individual productions, but they do not publish a rule placing all four in one continuity. Characters and concepts can recur because they come from the same game series; a recurring name or fighting style does not, by itself, create a continuous movie storyline.

What the different premises tell you
- Street Fighter (1994): Colonel Guile leads the response to General M. Bison’s hostage crisis.
- The Legend of Chun-Li (2009): Chun-Li’s personal origin and conflict provide the central point of view.
- Assassin’s Fist (2014): Ryu and Ken’s formative years, their Ansatsuken training and the history of their master Gouken drive the story.
- Street Fighter (2026): a new story set in 1993 around the World Warrior Tournament, with Ryu, Ken and Chun-Li as principal characters.
Because those setups do not require one film’s plot to explain another’s, you can watch an entry that matches your favorite character without first completing a required sequence.
What game is each Street Fighter movie based on?
Each project uses Capcom’s Street Fighter fighting-game franchise rather than adapting four unrelated games. The adaptation relationship differs, however: the 1994 distributor synopsis describes a broad video-game adaptation, while the later productions focus on specific characters, backstory or tournament mythology.
| Project | Release information | Lead focus | Premise and game relationship | Format |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Street Fighter | 1994; 1 hour 42 minutes; U.S. PG-13 | Colonel Guile | Universal describes it as based on the best-selling video game. The plot follows Guile against General M. Bison during a hostage crisis. | Feature film |
| Street Fighter: The Legend of Chun-Li | 2009; BBFC home-entertainment listing: 92 minutes 12 seconds | Chun-Li | A Chun-Li-focused origin story, presented as a separate interpretation of the game character’s background. | Feature film |
| Street Fighter: Assassin’s Fist | Full debut announced for May 23, 2014 | Ryu and Ken | Capcom describes the formative years of Ryu and Ken, their training in Ansatsuken and the history of their master Gouken. | Serialized live-action production |
| Street Fighter | Capcom release sheet: October 16, 2026 | Ryu, Ken and Chun-Li | A live-action adaptation of the fighting-game series set in 1993 during the World Warrior Tournament. | Feature film |
Why Assassin’s Fist is often listed with the movies
Assassin’s Fist is not structured like a conventional theatrical feature. Capcom announced its complete debut as a serialized production, with the full story arriving on May 23, 2014. It is still commonly included in Street Fighter movie watch lists because it is a substantial live-action adaptation built around the franchise’s characters and mythology. Expect a training-and-history narrative rather than a single tournament film.

What order should you watch the Street Fighter movies?
For a first viewing, use release order. It preserves the way each adaptation was introduced and avoids implying a chronological relationship that the official descriptions do not establish.
- Street Fighter (1994). Universal lists the release year as 1994, a runtime of 1 hour 42 minutes and a U.S. PG-13 rating.
- Street Fighter: The Legend of Chun-Li (2009). The BBFC home-entertainment record identifies a 2009 production and a 92-minute, 12-second version.
- Street Fighter: Assassin’s Fist (2014). Capcom announced the complete debut for May 23, 2014, with Ryu and Ken’s formative years at the center.
- Street Fighter (2026). Capcom’s release sheet gives October 16, 2026, and its official synopsis places the story in 1993 at the World Warrior Tournament.
When another order makes sense
If you are choosing by character rather than chronology, start with the matching project: Guile fans can begin with the 1994 film, Chun-Li fans with the 2009 film, and viewers most interested in Ryu and Ken’s relationship with Assassin’s Fist. The 2026 film is the direct choice for a tournament-centered story featuring all three of those major characters.
A chronological order based on the stories’ internal dates is not reliable. The 2026 synopsis is set in 1993, but that does not make it a prequel to the 1994 production; the two films come from separate adaptation premises and have no officially stated shared timeline.
What is each project about?
Street Fighter (1994): Guile versus Bison
The first live-action feature uses Colonel Guile as its primary viewpoint. Universal’s official synopsis calls it “Based on the best-selling video game” and describes a story propelled by explosive action, humor and special effects. Its central conflict is Guile’s effort to oppose General M. Bison in a hostage crisis.

The Guile-led structure means viewers should not expect the same narrative emphasis as the later Ryu-and-Ken material or the Chun-Li-focused film.

- Shrink-wrapped
Street Fighter: The Legend of Chun-Li (2009)
The 2009 feature shifts the lead to Chun-Li and presents her background as an origin story. It is a separate interpretation from the Guile-led 1994 film, so its character history should not be treated as a continuation of that film’s plot.
The BBFC’s home-entertainment record identifies a 92-minute, 12-second version and carries the warning “Contains strong martial arts violence and threat.” That warning applies to the listed home-entertainment release; classifications can differ by country and format.
Street Fighter: Assassin’s Fist (2014): Ryu, Ken and Ansatsuken
Capcom’s U.S. announcement says the production follows Ryu and Ken during their formative years and explores their training under Gouken. It also identifies Ansatsuken as the ancient fighting style they are, unknowingly, the last practitioners of.
The emphasis is therefore on apprenticeship, technique, friendship and the history behind the fighting style. Its serialized format gives that material more room than a single feature normally would, but it also means it should be approached as its own production rather than as an episode in the 1994 or 2009 films.
Rank #4
Street Fighter (2026): the 1993 World Warrior Tournament
Capcom identifies the 2026 project as a live-action adaptation of the Street Fighter fighting-game series. The official synopsis sets the story in 1993 and names Ryu, Ken and Chun-Li as principal characters involved in the World Warrior Tournament.
The 1993 setting is a story premise, not evidence that this film shares continuity with the 1994 movie. Treat it as a new tournament adaptation unless a future studio statement establishes a broader connection.

Do not confuse the game rating with a film rating
An ESRB entry for Street Fighter The Movie, the separate video game, is rated T for Teen with Realistic Violence. That classification belongs to the game, not to any of the live-action films, and cannot be used as a film age guide.

Is the 1994 Street Fighter movie on Blu-ray?
Yes, Universal’s U.S. home-entertainment listing includes Blu-ray and DVD editions of the 1994 film. That supports searching for a physical Blu-ray release when you want a disc copy or a dependable rewatch option.
Universal also advertises a “Buy or Rent Now on Digital” option. Digital stores, pricing, subtitles, language tracks and availability vary by country and can change, so check the retailer serving your location rather than assuming the U.S. listing applies everywhere.
How should you choose a starting point?
- Want the original live-action interpretation? Start with the 1994 Guile-led feature.
- Primarily interested in Chun-Li? Choose The Legend of Chun-Li, which makes her origin the central story.
- Want Ryu and Ken’s training history? Watch Assassin’s Fist for the Ansatsuken material and Gouken’s backstory.
- Prefer a tournament premise with the best-known trio? Choose the 2026 film, centered on Ryu, Ken and Chun-Li in the World Warrior Tournament.
- Want the clearest overview of how the adaptations evolved? Follow release order: 1994, 2009, 2014, 2026.
What to remember about canon and continuity
The games provide the shared character and fighting-style foundation, but the films do not come with a searched studio statement placing them all in one movie canon. Their official descriptions point in different directions: a Guile hostage crisis, a Chun-Li origin, Ryu and Ken’s Ansatsuken prehistory, and a new 1993 tournament.
That distinction prevents two common mistakes. First, do not treat the 2026 film’s 1993 setting as a direct prequel to the 1994 feature. Second, do not use the ESRB rating for the separate Street Fighter game as the age rating for a film. Watch the entries as independent takes on Capcom’s franchise, using release order when you want a simple, reliable path through them.
