This guide gives that eight-item list its proper context, explains where each tool can earn value, and covers Shield Barrier, which was added later and has no substantiated comparative rank.
How to read this ranking
The placements below are Pro Game Guides’ editorial tier list, updated November 27, 2024. The guide describes its criteria for primary weapons, but does not give a quantitative method for ranking throwables. Treat the tiers as a dated general-use opinion, not an official balance verdict, measured win-rate comparison, or current meta ranking. The later tactical-item guide updated September 22, 2026 offers mode and role suggestions, but no replacement tier list.
Utility is situational: an item that deals no damage may still create a rotation, protect a retake, or delay an objective push. To choose, consider the effect you need, whether the map and mode give you a chance to use it, how well your team can coordinate, and what other item you give up by occupying the tactical-item slot. No current pick-rate or win-rate dataset, or documented controlled comparison, supports a statistical ranking.
The dated eight-item ranking
| Tier | Item | Why the guide placed it there | Where it can fit |
|---|---|---|---|
| S | Frag Grenade | Damage, area of effect, versatility, and range. | General damage and area pressure; map knowledge helps with deliberate wall-bounce throws. |
| A | Healing Grenade | Healing and area support, with the caveat that allies can be vulnerable to area attacks. | Support and team-fight sustain when nearby allies can benefit. |
| A | Smoke Bomb | Obscures vision and creates tactical advantage despite dealing no damage. | Rotations, safe routes, site defense, or delaying a rush. |
| B | Flashbang | Blinds enemies and has decent range and area, but deals no damage. | Coordinated engagements; warn teammates and time throws to avoid blinding them. |
| C | Interceptor | Blocks thrown tactical items, but has limited range and duration. | Chokepoints or a planted-bomb site when you want to resist tactical-item retakes. |
| C | Windstorm Grenade | Offers crowd control, but has limited range and duration; enemies can glide through it. | Dislodging enemies from hiding or supporting a movement rotation. |
| D | Slow Grenade | Its area slow is easy to avoid and it deals no damage. | Can delay attackers along an Escort objective route. |
| D | Tattletale | Detects enemies without dealing damage; the guide considers it unusable in most modes. | Rotation information, especially on larger maps. |
What each item does—and when its utility matters
Frag Grenade
It explodes shortly after impact and deals area damage. Zilliongamer notes it can bounce off walls, making map knowledge useful when aiming a throw. Its direct damage and flexible area pressure explain why it led the older general-use list, but that placement is the guide’s editorial judgment rather than a current measured comparison.

Healing Grenade
On impact, it releases a healing mist that temporarily restores nearby allies’ health. The official catalog describes it this way: “Releases a healing mist on impact, temporarily restoring health to allies in its area.” It is a support option for team-fight sustain; weigh the benefit of grouping allies near the effect against their exposure to area attacks.
Smoke Bomb
It releases an obscuring smoke screen shortly after impact. In Demolition, smoke can help create a rotation or safer route, defend a site, or delay a rush. Its value comes from changing what opponents can see and when they can act, not from damage.
Rank #2

Flashbang
After detonation, it blinds and deafens people in range. Coordinate the throw with teammates so your own side is not caught in the effect; without that coordination, the same disruption intended for opponents can hinder an attack.
Interceptor
It deploys a transparent shield that blocks enemy tactical items for its duration. Placing it around a chokepoint or planted-bomb site can help resist a tactical-item retake. The 2024 ranking’s C placement reflects its limited range and duration, not proof that it is ineffective in those situations.
Rank #3
- Next-gen 12,000 DPI HERO optical sensor delivers unrivaled gaming performance, accuracy and power efficiency
- Advanced LIGHTSPEED wireless gaming mouse for super-fast 1 ms response time and faster than wired performance
- Ultra-long battery life gives you up to 250 hours of continuous gaming on a single AA battery
- Lightweight mechanical design and classic shape for maximum maneuverability, durability and comfort
- Compact, portable design with convenient built-in storage for included USB wireless receiver
Windstorm Grenade
It creates a small gust that forcibly floats units caught in the field for its duration. It can expose hiding enemies or help a movement rotation, but its limited range and duration—and opponents’ ability to glide through it—constrain its control.
Slow Grenade
It spreads paint that significantly slows and string-blocks enemies. Zilliongamer identifies Escort as a useful context: slowing attackers along the objective route can delay progress. That situational role can matter even though the 2024 list rated it D for being easy to avoid and dealing no damage.

Tattletale
It attaches to a surface, scans the area, and alerts you when enemies pass. That can provide rotation information, especially across larger maps. Its value depends on whether the information helps your team respond; the older tier list’s low placement is a broad editorial judgment, not a finding that reconnaissance never helps.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Shield Barrier: added later, not ranked here
The official Shield Barrier update says it intercepts bullets from both sides, loses defensive capability over time, and self-destructs when its HP reaches zero. It is absent from Pro Game Guides’ 2024 throwable ranking. The available sources do not establish a comparable tier for it, so assigning one would imply a comparison that has not been documented.
