When either of the two doors knocks and starts opening, run to that door and close it before it opens fully. Repeat until the narrator returns and directs you to the Waterworks Memory.
Reach Caleb’s basement
The demo begins in a bouncy castle inside the player’s memory, then leads to Caleb’s childhood basement. Follow the opening narration until you arrive there. The steps below come from a demo walkthrough, so they should be treated as demo instructions rather than confirmed guidance for every current game build. Power on the TV
- Go to the basement bedroom.
- Find the cord and plug it into the socket to turn on the TV.
Advance time and close the door that knocks
- Go to the TV room and interact with the clock with eyes.
- Move the clock’s hands forward to advance time.
- Listen for a knock. The walkthrough identifies two possible doors: the door at the base of the stairs and the basement bedroom door.
- Run to the door that knocked and close it before it opens completely.
- Return to the clock, advance time again, and respond to the next knock in the same way.
Continue this clock-and-door routine until the narrator returns. The walkthrough does not specify how many times to repeat it or describe a failure penalty, so there is no supported fixed count to follow.

When the narrator returns, follow the direction onward to the Waterworks Memory. The walkthrough quotes the narrator saying, “Please find a way to occupy yourself — I’ll be back momentarily.” It identifies the speaker only as the narrator.

What is confirmed about the game and guidance
Steam describes Subliminal as psychological horror inspired by The Backrooms, with handcrafted open-ended levels and puzzles involving light and perspective. Steam also reports improved controller support, but does not name compatible controller models. Steam’s Subliminal community page lists user-created guides, including broader all-levels/puzzles/endings guidance and a Basement guide. These are community resources; the walkthrough steps above are specifically presented as demo guidance, and the available sources do not establish whether they match every current build.
