Metacritic’s general game page also displays a score of 60, but bases it on 88 critic reviews in its displayed view. Its platform entries show different totals and scores: 91 reviews and 60, 29 reviews and 61, and 26 reviews and 63. Because the page views do not agree on counts, cite the platform and the page context when quoting the aggregate rather than treating a review total as fixed.
What do critics praise and criticize?
Characters, movement and action
Across the review excerpts on Metacritic’s PS5 page, recurring strengths include the characters and their banter, the story and voice work, the speed of traversal through Metropolis, combat, and the visual presentation. These strengths help explain why some critics found the game enjoyable even when they objected to its structure.
#1 Best Overall
- Join the new "recruited" members of Amanda Wallers infamous Task Force X, Harley Quinn, Deadshot, Captain Boomerang and King Shark
- Players can experiment with a range of different play styles to deal maximum damage to their enemies
- Whether in single-player mode or online with up to three friends, players can tackle this suicide mission in their own way
- All team members have their own movement mechanism
Repetition and live-service design
Common criticisms include repetitive mission design, a live-service structure some reviewers found shallow or intrusive, and a mismatch between the story’s ambitions and the recurring activities used to advance it. That pattern is not unanimous: individual critics differed in how much they valued the action and characters relative to the repeated mission loop.
Why are reviews so divided?
The game’s format is a key part of the divide. Metacritic describes it as playable solo or with up to four players in online co-op. Its cooperative looter-shooter loop is a different proposition from a single-player action-adventure in the style of Rocksteady’s Arkham games. Players looking primarily for a tightly varied, story-led solo campaign may be less receptive to repeated activities, while those drawn to the characters, movement and co-op combat may find more to enjoy.
Rank #2
- PLAY AS THE SUICIDE SQUAD: Join the newly “recruited” members of Amanda Waller’s infamous Task Force X (aka the Suicide Squad), Harley Quinn, Deadshot, Captain Boomerang and King Shark, as they set out on an impossible mission to kill the Justice League.
- OPEN WORLD EXPLORATION: Drop into an expansive and dynamic open-world Metropolis ravaged by Brainiac’s invasion and terrorized by the heroes who once protected it.
- UNIQUE GAMEPLAY EXPERIENCE: Experience gameplay that brings together an unique fusion of enhanced traversal, gunplay, and melee combat, combining free-roaming exploration and combat verticality for an unforgettable experience.
- IMMERSIVE DC STORY CAMPAIGN:Experience a brand new original story set in the DC Universe featuring your favorite characters and villains like you’ve never seen them before.
- CONTINUOUSLY EVOLVING METROPOLIS: Post-launch, players can expect a continuously evolving Metropolis with free new playable villains, environments, weapons, in-game events, and more, all included with purchase of the base game
That distinction helps make sense of a score dominated by mixed reviews: critics could recognize effective character work and energetic action while still finding that the mission structure or service-driven design weakened the experience as a whole.
How does GameSpot’s score compare?
GameSpot’s listing gives its own review a score of 5 and separately lists a Metacritic score of 60. GameSpot’s score is one outlet’s assessment; Metacritic’s number is an aggregate. They measure different things and should not be read as equivalent ratings.
Rank #3

The same listing identifies Rocksteady Studios as the developer and Warner Bros. as the publisher, and lists the game for PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S.
Is Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League worth playing?
The critic scores suggest a game with clear strengths but a significant structural trade-off, rather than a broadly acclaimed release or a consensus failure. It is a more promising fit if its character banter, traversal and co-op action appeal to you; it is a riskier choice if mission variety and a focused, standalone story are your priorities. The aggregate score can summarize the divided critical response, but the specific praise and complaints are more useful for deciding whether its particular loop suits you.
