Super Impossible Road is a futuristic arcade racer where winning often means leaving the track. Its shortcut-jumping, high-risk races can make for a distinctive “one more race” loop, especially with friends, but players who dislike repetitive tracks or outcomes that feel luck-driven should weigh those concerns before buying. This is a review of published descriptions and reviews, not a firsthand test; performance and availability claims below are tied to the platform listings that make them.
What kind of game is Super Impossible Road?
Wonderful Lasers’ Super Impossible Road is a spiritual sequel to Impossible Road and an arcade racer built around winding, elevated, rollercoaster-like courses. You steer a ball-like vehicle, use temporary boosts and can jump off the route to bypass gates and checkpoints. The aim is to reach the finish ahead of your rivals—not necessarily by following the track as designed. Steam’s publisher description sums up the conceit: “Winning is Cheating in this futuristic racer set on rollercoaster-like tracks.” Steam store

That shortcut mechanic is the game’s main point of difference from a conventional racer. A jump can save time, but missing the landing can cost the race. The appeal is in judging when to take that risk, learning routes and trying again in short races.
What do reviews say?
Metacritic’s Nintendo Switch critic listing showed a score of 78, labeled “Generally Favorable,” from six reviews in the snapshot retrieved. The displayed set included five positive reviews and one mixed review; the aggregate can change as listings update. Metacritic’s Switch critic reviews
#1 Best Overall
- New stages and fighters are joined by the combined rosters of every past Super Smash Bros. Game
- Challenge others anytime, anywhere, whether you're on the couch or on the go
- Play any way you want—locally, online, in TV mode, Tabletop mode, Handheld mode, or even with GameCube Controllers
- Fight faster and smarter with new and returning techniques, like the perfect shield and directional air dodge
- Face off in 2-4 player battles, or play against the computer
The individual excerpts point to both the game’s hook and its limits. NintendoWorldReport’s December 10, 2021 review praised the tight controls and shortcut jumps, and described the appeal as “just one more race.” The reviewer also noted that repetitive play can undermine some racers, though they felt this game avoided that problem. Nindie Spotlight, writing on December 16, 2021, highlighted the calculated-risk choice between staying on the winding track and jumping to lower sections, while warning that failed risks can be costly. Other review comments in the listing raised concerns about similar-feeling tracks, staleness or wins that seem luck-driven. Those are individual reactions, not guaranteed experiences for every player. Metacritic’s Switch critic reviews
Steam’s listing showed 87% positive from 93 user reviews on October 8, 2026; another rendering in the same result set showed 94 reviews. That is a changeable user-review snapshot, separate from Metacritic’s critic score, rather than a permanent rating. Steam store

- A variety of playable characters are available, some with unique attributes that affect gameplay and platforming physics.
- Younger and less-experienced players will love playing as Toadette, who is brand new to both games, and Nabbit, who was formerly only playable in New Super Luigi U. Both characters offer extra assistance during play.
- Multiplayer sessions are even more fun, frantic, and exciting thanks to entertaining character interactions. Need a boost? Try jumping off a teammate’s head or getting a teammate to throw you.
- Features a wealth of help features, like a Hints gallery, reference videos, and a Super Guide in New Super Mario Bros. U that can complete levels for you if they’re giving you trouble.
- Three additional modes—Boost Rush, Challenges, and Coin Battle—mix up gameplay and add replayability, while also upping the difficulty for players who want to try something harder. Players can use their Mii characters in these modes.
Is it repetitive?
It may be, depending on what you want from a racer. The procedural-track and challenge descriptions suggest variation, and the Switch listing also mentions career challenges and vehicle customization. But procedural generation does not by itself establish that every course feels distinct. Reviewers differed: one praised the lasting replay loop, while other comments raised similarity and staleness as possible drawbacks. If learning risky shortcuts and retrying compact races sounds satisfying, repetition may matter less; if you need sharply differentiated tracks, treat that concern seriously.
How many players can play?
Player limits vary by platform listing, so check the version you intend to use. Steam advertises solo play, online PvP for up to eight players, four-player split-screen and cross-play across Nintendo Switch, Xbox, PlayStation and Apple Arcade. Nintendo lists one to four players on a single Switch system and one to eight online. These are storefront feature claims, not independent tests of matchmaking or performance. - Mario's new friend, Cappy, lets you master new moves like cap throw, cap jump and capture
- Visit astonishing new locales, such as the skyscraper-packed New Donk City, and run into familiar friends and foes as you try to save Princess Peach from Bowser's clutches and foil his dastardly wedding plans
- Hand a Joy-Con controller to a friend to enjoy simultaneous multiplayer: Player 1 controls Mario while Player 2 controls Mario’s new ally Cappy
- Unlock even more features with the exclusive new amiibo figures - Mario, Princess Peach and Bowser dressed in their wedding outfits
Local multiplayer is a natural fit for the game’s short, risky races: a missed jump can change the result quickly, and players can immediately run another round. For Switch, Nintendo’s listing supports one-to-four-player single-system play; it does not name a required controller model. An additional compatible controller is optional for local multiplayer, and buyers should check compatibility with their particular setup.

The 60 FPS figure is Nintendo’s Switch product-listing claim, not a measured comparison across platforms. Steam’s page makes a separate 120 FPS claim for local multiplayer; neither figure should be assumed to apply to other versions. Check the listing for the specific edition you plan to play. Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. Is Super Impossible Road worth considering?
It is most compelling for players who want a compact arcade racer shaped by daring shortcuts, quick retries and the option to compete locally or online. The risk-versus-reward driving gives it a clearer identity than simply following a course, and the favorable Switch critic aggregate supports a broadly positive—but not unanimous—critical reception.
