It does not confirm that Nintendo supports user-swappable panels, or establish that the listed parts fit retail controllers. What the Joy-Con 2 customization leak claimed
On May 5, 2025, Nintendo Life reported an AliExpress store listing that appeared to show removable Joy-Con 2 side panels in different colors. The article described two color arrangements and advised readers to be cautious. It traced the claim to a Bluesky post by Stealth40k, quoted as saying: “Switch 2 Joy-Con panels can be removed and customized. Accessory makers (and Nintendo themselves) could make different colors and designs.” That is the post’s claim as reported by Nintendo Life, not a statement from Nintendo.

The report establishes that a listing and customization claim existed. It does not independently verify the parts, their availability, or whether they work with retail controllers. Nintendo Life’s May 5, 2025 report is the source for the listing and its caveat.
What Nintendo has confirmed about Joy-Con 2
Nintendo names the controllers for Switch 2 Joy-Con 2. Its official product materials say they attach magnetically to the console. Nintendo’s comparison of Switch 2 and original Switch accessories distinguishes Joy-Con 2’s magnetic connector from the original Joy-Con rail. Those facts describe how the controllers connect to the system; they do not establish that the decorative side panels are designed for routine user replacement.

Nintendo’s Switch 2 technical specifications list each Joy-Con 2 at approximately 4.57 inches tall, 0.56 inches wide, and 1.2 inches thick at the maximum protrusion. The listed approximate weights are 2.3 ounces for Joy-Con 2 [L] and 2.4 ounces for Joy-Con 2 [R]. These specifications identify the controller family but make no claim about user-replaceable panels. Nintendo announced the system’s June 5, 2025 release and described Joy-Con 2’s magnetic attachment in its April 2, 2025 release; its accessory comparison and Joy-Con 2 diagram likewise do not confirm panel customization.
What remains unverified
The available reporting and official documentation do not settle whether the listed panels fit retail Joy-Con 2, how they attach, or whether installing them requires opening or disassembling a controller. They also do not establish whether the listing is still active or whether Nintendo intends users to swap panels. The absence of confirmation is not proof that a panel cannot be removed; it means the customization claim should be treated as unconfirmed.

Should you look for replacement panels?
If you search for “Nintendo Switch 2 Joy-Con 2 side panels,” treat results as third-party, unverified accessories rather than officially supported Nintendo products. Before buying, seek clear evidence of compatibility with retail Joy-Con 2 and installation requirements; the May 2025 report does not verify either. No current stock or fit can be inferred from the reported listing alone.
