Critics generally praise Symphonia for its art, music and satisfying 2D platforming, while some point to imprecise controls, bugs, confusing mechanics, a thin story and a short runtime. Metacritic’s displayed 85 Metascore is based on just four critic reviews on its overview, so it is a useful snapshot—not a broad consensus or a guarantee that the game will suit every player.
What is Symphonia?
Symphonia is a 2D platform game developed by Sunny Peak and released on December 5, 2024, according to its Steam listing. Its premise combines platforming with music: the player uses a violin as part of an effort to gather an orchestra and restore the world’s musical machinery, as described by Nintendo’s US listing and Steam.
This is Sunny Peak’s platformer, not the separate role-playing game Tales of Symphonia. The official website links to digital storefronts including Steam, PlayStation, Xbox, Epic Games Store and GOG. Metacritic lists PC, Nintendo Switch, Xbox Series X, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and iOS, but that list does not establish current availability in every region. Check the relevant regional store for the platform you use.
What scores do critics give Symphonia?
Metacritic’s overview displays an 85 Metascore based on four critic reviews. Its overview and platform-filtered pages are snapshots of the reviews they list; the score should be read with its source and sample size, not as a timeless or universal verdict.

What do critics like about Symphonia?
Art and music are central strengths
The surfaced reviews repeatedly emphasize the game’s audiovisual presentation. GameCritics called it “an audiovisual masterpiece” in its PS5 review published January 27, 2025. Noisy Pixel’s December 2, 2024 PC review described it as “a visually stunning 2D platformer where music and gameplay intertwine in a harmonious adventure.”

Platforming and level design
Reviewers also praise the movement and level design. DualShockers wrote in its PC review, “The platforming mechanics here are refined, satisfying, and a joy to master.” The PC review excerpts also commend momentum-based mechanics and level design. On PS5, Video Chums said the game “takes a little while to grow on you but once you get in the groove, Symphonia will quickly become one of your favourite platformers.”
What are the common criticisms?
Precision and mechanics
PSX Brasil’s PS5 review says the musical themes, level design and progression work well, but notes that “the controls are not always as precise as they should be.” Noisy Pixel’s PC review mentions minor bugs and confusing mechanics. These are outlet observations, not independently verified findings about every version or player’s experience.

- AN EPIC ADVENTURE Explore a rich and lively world filled with unforgettable characters and experience an emotionally charged storyline like never before.
- FULLY RESTORED Features graphically enhanced and improved gameplay.
- THRILLING BATTLES Play with up to 3 friends in local co-op mode to fight powerful opponents in real-time battles. Combine hundreds of special attacks and magic spells.
Story and scope
Noisy Pixel and DualShockers both describe the story as underdeveloped. PSX Brasil also argues that an additional area would have made the package more robust and varied. That criticism points to scope: players looking for a substantial narrative or a large game may find less here than those mainly seeking a focused platforming experience.
Short runtime
Reviewers characterize Symphonia as short. Gameliner’s PS5 review estimated a playtime of four to eight hours, calling it “a short impressive platforming adventure.” That is one reviewer’s estimate, not an official completion-time figure, and actual playtime can vary.
Rank #4
Is Symphonia worth playing?
The reviews make the strongest case for Symphonia if you value a distinctive visual and musical identity alongside platforming and are comfortable with a relatively short experience. Consider the reported control precision and mechanics concerns if exact movement is a priority, and temper expectations if you want a developed story or a larger package.
The violin is an in-game mechanic and part of the premise; the listings do not say players need to own or buy a real instrument. For availability, use the official site’s storefront links and confirm the listing for your platform and region.
