A Synth Riders run can save a personal best on your headset or PC while failing to upload a global score. Check the song’s leaderboard filters first, then verify Steam or Meta authentication, the game version, and access to services.synthriders.net. A blocked service, a network drop at the end of a song, or a mismatch between Combined and Modified views can make a valid score appear to be missing.
Why a personal best can exist without a global score
Synth Riders treats a local result and a network submission as separate states. The game can finish a song, calculate your score, and update the personal-best display stored on the device even when the leaderboard service cannot be reached. If the upload fails when the song ends, the local result remains but other players—and sometimes your own online profile—continue to show the previous submitted score.

This is why the center-panel personal best is not proof that the run reached the global board. The developer has described partial submissions as a connectivity symptom: when some scores upload and others do not, the internet connection may have failed at the moment the song ended and the leaderboards were inaccessible.

Work through the checks below in order. Start with the view and score rules, because a correctly submitted score can be hidden by the selected mode or modifiers. Then test the platform connection and service reachability before collecting logs for support.
1. Check the exact leaderboard view and score eligibility
Open the song’s leaderboard immediately after the run and match every setting used for that run. Compare the same song, difficulty, game mode, modifier set, and Play Profile. Experiences, Party Mode, Challenges, custom maps, and special modifiers may have different scoring behavior or separate boards, so an apparently missing entry is not automatically an upload failure.
Combined versus Modified

For a direct comparison, use the game’s SELF → Combined view and then SELF → Modified. A score visible only in Modified is not missing; it belongs to the exact modifier combination. Conversely, a run made with modifiers may not appear where you expect if you are looking at an unmodified or Combined interpretation of the board.

Official Play Profiles have filterable leaderboards. Changing the active profile can therefore change the score list without changing the song itself. Reproduce the run with the same profile and modifiers, then inspect both Combined and Modified. Treat custom maps, Challenges, Experiences, and Party Mode as separate eligibility questions rather than assuming every result shares one global ranking.

2. Put Steam online and update Synth Riders
On Steam, leave Offline Mode, restart the Steam client, and install any pending Synth Riders update. Confirm that the game is running under the Steam account you intend to use. If Steam authentication is stale, sign out and back in, then launch Synth Riders again.
The Steam listing identifies Synth Riders as Steam PCVR software with OpenXR support, online multiplayer, Steam Cloud, and 3 GB of displayed available-storage requirements. These platform capabilities do not guarantee that a particular leaderboard upload succeeded; they establish that the PC version depends on Steam’s online environment for its platform services.
Check for a version-specific problem
If the issue started after an update, record the exact game version and whether you are on the stable branch or another Steam branch. Recent official release notes report fixes for score-summary stalls after network drops, incorrect Steam Frame leaderboard display, and multiplayer scores appearing as zero. Those fixes address known software behavior, so updating is essential before deeper network diagnosis.

3. Test access to the leaderboard service
The developer specifically names services.synthriders.net as a service that must be reachable. Allow that hostname through every filtering layer used by the playing setup:
- Router or mesh-system firewall rules.
- DNS filtering, ad-blocking sinks, or family-safety policies.
- Endpoint security or firewall software on the PC.
- Network controls applied to the headset or its companion PC.
Eero-style filtering and Cloudflare or other DNS policies have been reported in the developer discussion as causes of failed access. An allow rule must apply to the actual network used during play; allowing a hostname on a phone while the headset uses a filtered home DNS resolver will not change the game’s path.
Use a hotspot only as a diagnostic comparison
Connect the PC or headset through a phone hotspot for one controlled test. A successful upload on the hotspot points toward the home router, DNS filter, or firewall path rather than the Synth Riders account. A failure on both networks makes a local game, platform-authentication, or service-side issue more likely. Do not treat a hotspot as a permanent fix: it is a comparison that isolates the network path.

If multiplayer and other account-connected functions fail at the same time, investigate platform and network access first. If those features work but one score does not, capture the exact run details and log entry instead of repeatedly changing account settings.

4. Read the game log after a fresh reproduction
The developer identifies ErrorLog.txt in the Synth Riders installation folder as the file to inspect when only some scores submit. A log is most useful when it corresponds to a newly reproduced failure.
- Write down the current date and time, your platform, and the song and settings you will use.
- Complete one short run with the exact song, difficulty, mode, profile, and modifiers that show the problem.
- Open the leaderboard immediately and record whether the score appears in Local, Combined, or Modified.
- Close the game only after the result has been displayed, then copy the relevant
ErrorLog.txtlines from that session. - Keep the original timestamp and game version with the copied lines so support can match the log to the run.
Do not rely only on the personal-best panel. That data can update locally even when the network request was rejected, timed out, or interrupted by a connection drop at song completion.

Steam and Meta provide the platform identity used to access the game; Synth Riders does not manage those third-party accounts. Kluge’s privacy materials describe leaderboard interactions, scores, platform IDs, and multiplayer authentication as service data, while distribution platforms supply login credentials and account management.
Steam PCVR
- Confirm Steam is online rather than in Offline Mode.
- Check that the intended Steam account owns and launches the game.
- Sign out and back in if authentication appears stale.
- Restart Steam and Synth Riders after the account change.
Meta headsets
- Verify that the intended Meta account is active on the headset.
- Do not expect Synth Riders support to recover a compromised or inaccessible Meta account.
- Use Meta’s account-recovery and account-security channels for credentials, ownership, or access problems.
The EULA states that some features require third-party platform accounts and that a stable internet connection may be needed for online leaderboards and multiplayer. Platform account problems therefore sit outside the game’s own account controls. A successful local run does not override a failed platform login or an unavailable online service.

6. Understand service-availability limits
Online boards depend on both the game service and the platform supporting the relevant build. Kluge’s EULA notes that service availability can change with platform support. A historical Quest 1 support notice warned that continued networked-service availability could not be guaranteed after Meta ended platform support for that device. That warning is specific to Quest 1 and should not be generalized to Steam PCVR.
For current Steam troubleshooting, focus on the active PCVR build, Steam authentication, and reachability of services.synthriders.net. For a Quest issue, include the headset model and Meta account in the report so support can distinguish a device-support boundary from an ordinary network failure.
7. Send support a reproducible evidence package
Contact official Synth Riders support through its contact form, support email, Discord, or Facebook community. A complete report lets the team compare the score request, account context, and service log without guessing which board you viewed.
Include these details
- Platform and headset, such as Steam PCVR, Quest, or PSVR2.
- Synth Riders version and Steam branch, if applicable.
- Song title, difficulty, mode, modifiers, and Play Profile.
- Whether the run was solo, multiplayer, Challenge, Experience, Party Mode, or a custom map.
- A screenshot of the final-score screen.
- Screenshots of SELF → Combined and SELF → Modified.
- The matching
ErrorLog.txtlines from the same session. - Whether
services.synthriders.netwas blocked or allowlisted. - Whether a phone-hotspot test succeeded.
- Whether other online features worked during the same period.
State the date and approximate time of the failed run. If the score appears later, report that too; delayed visibility and a total absence are different symptoms. Include the exact modifier combination rather than describing it as “modded,” because Modified boards are keyed to the selected settings.
A quick decision path
- Score appears in Combined or Modified: the upload likely succeeded; use the matching view and settings.
- Score appears only in Local: check Steam or Meta authentication, update the game, and test service reachability.
- Hotspot works but home internet fails: adjust router, DNS, ad-blocking, or firewall rules for
services.synthriders.net. - Both networks fail: capture
ErrorLog.txt, verify the account, and check the current release notes for known issues. - Multiplayer shows zero or the summary stalls: update to a build containing the relevant fixes, then reproduce once and document the result.
Bottom line
Missing Synth Riders leaderboard scores are usually explained by one of three conditions: the score is on a different Combined or Modified board, the upload failed when the network dropped or services.synthriders.net was blocked, or Steam/Meta authentication was not valid for the session. Check the exact view first, then update and reconnect the platform, allow the service through every network filter, and submit dated screenshots plus the matching log when the problem persists.
