Law and Chaos split at Balmamusa in Chapter 1; Neutral is a later option available only after choosing Chaos.
Where the routes branch
Tactics Ogre: Reborn does not ask you to pick a route from a menu. Denam’s decisions at story branch points determine which path the story follows. The choice wording below is reported by Pro Game Guides; Square Enix’s product description confirms that choices affect the story and endings, but does not provide the dialogue prompts.
| Route | Decision point | Choice | Result |
|---|---|---|---|
| Law | Chapter 1, First Battle at Balmamusa | “I understand.” | Accept the order associated with Leonar and enter Law. |
| Chaos | Chapter 1, First Battle at Balmamusa | “Stop this lunacy!” | Reject the order and enter Chaos. |
| Neutral | Chapter 2, Almorica Passageway; only after choosing Chaos | “You’re right, this is no time to fight.” | Accept Vyce’s offer and move from Chaos to Neutral. |
How to reach each route
Choose Law at Balmamusa
At the end of Chapter 1, when Denam is asked whether to carry out the order at Balmamusa, select “I understand.” This follows the Law branch.
Choose Chaos at Balmamusa
At the same Chapter 1 decision, select “Stop this lunacy!” to reject the order and follow Chaos.
#1 Best Overall
- Your choices affect how the story unfolds
- Fight pitched tactical battles on three-dimensional battlefields
- The class-wide level management system used in Tactics Ogre (2010) has changed to a unit-by-unit level system
- Enjoy numerous playability improvements, such as a quicker pace of battle, auto save, and a complete overhaul to the controls and UI to make it easier to get into the game than ever
- The unparalleled details of the characters and backgrounds from the original Tactics Ogre (1995) have been recreated in high definition, while the detailed pixel art that gives the game its unique feel has been preserved and enhanced
Switch from Chaos to Neutral in Chapter 2
If you chose Chaos at Balmamusa, you will later receive Vyce’s offer at the Almorica Passageway. Select “You’re right, this is no time to fight” to enter Neutral. That Neutral prompt does not appear if you chose Law at Balmamusa; choosing the other response keeps you on Chaos. The branch locations and English prompt wording are documented by Pro Game Guides.
What choosing a route changes
Square Enix describes the game as having multiple story paths and endings: “Your choices affect how the story unfolds, and even how it ends, with a game system that allows for multiple paths through the game and multiple endings.” Square Enix’s product page also says Denam’s decisions alter the fate of people around him and Valeria’s history.

The route labels identify branching storylines, not a simple good-versus-evil scale. A route guide reports that story events and encountered characters can differ, and that some characters available on one route may not be recruitable on another. Exact character availability depends on the route and is not detailed here, so do not treat any route as a guaranteed way to recruit a particular character without checking that character’s specific requirements.
Which route should you choose first?
There is no official “correct” first route. For a first playthrough, choose the Balmamusa response that best matches the decision you want Denam to make. If your priority is completing all Curtain Call extra scenarios while playing just one route, the route-planning guide at Altema recommends Law, subject to having the required characters recruited and alive. That is a goal-specific guide recommendation, not an official ranking or a claim that Law is canon.

Can you play the other routes later?
Yes. According to Pro Game Guides, completing the game unlocks the World System (W.O.R.L.D.), which lets you return to past scenarios and pursue other routes. Altema also describes using W.O.R.L.D. to revisit branches and plan route completion. This supports revisiting the main route alternatives; it does not mean every later decision, recruitment, or postgame flag is automatically preserved in every timeline state.
