Compare Take-Two with other public video game publishers by aligning fiscal periods first, then using GAAP revenue, earnings, operating cash flow, cash and debt as common anchors. Add each company’s own bookings and live-services measures only after checking how they are defined, and assess franchise concentration, platform mix and release timing separately. Take-Two’s fiscal 2026 results show growth in revenue and bookings alongside a GAAP net loss; Electronic Arts provides one same-period example, not a complete industry ranking.
Start with comparable periods and common financial measures
Before comparing growth rates, check each publisher’s fiscal year-end, reporting currency, accounting treatment and any unusual charges or acquisitions. A calendar-year result and a fiscal year ending in March may cover different market conditions or release schedules. Use each company’s audited filing to identify those differences rather than assuming the headline figures line up perfectly.
For a shared baseline, compare GAAP net revenue, gross profit, operating income, net income, operating cash flow, cash and debt across several years. Revenue indicates recognized sales; earnings and cash flow help show whether those sales translate into profit and funding capacity. A bookings measure can add context, but it does not replace these measures.
Take-Two’s fiscal year ended March 31, 2026. It reported net revenue of $6,656.4 million, up 18.2% from fiscal 2025, Net Bookings of $6,721.0 million, up 19.0%, and a GAAP net loss of $298.2 million (Take-Two FY2026 Form 10-K). Revenue and bookings growth are meaningful, but neither erases the loss. Take-Two’s fiscal 2025 results included a large goodwill impairment, making a simple year-over-year comparison of losses unusually noisy; examine the multi-year statements and the filing’s explanation of the impairment rather than treating the change in loss as ordinary earnings growth.

Use bookings carefully: the formulas differ
Net Bookings is a company-defined operating measure, not a standardized substitute for GAAP revenue. Take-Two defines it as the net value of products and services sold digitally or physically during the period. Its definition includes licensing fees, merchandise, in-game advertising, strategy guides and publisher incentives. Electronic Arts calculates Net Bookings by adding net revenue to the change in deferred net revenue for online-enabled games (EA FY2026 Form 10-K).
Because the formulas differ, put each company’s bookings trend beside its own revenue trend; do not assume the levels are directly interchangeable. Read the definition in the relevant filing and check how deferred revenue or other adjustments affect the metric. GAAP revenue and profit remain the common comparison points.

Compare recurring monetization without treating labels as equivalent
Publishers depend on different combinations of full-game sales, downloadable content, in-game purchases, subscriptions, advertising and other ongoing spending. Those streams can make revenue less dependent on a single launch, but labels and accounting groupings vary by company.
Take-Two reported $5,196.6 million in recurrent consumer spending for fiscal 2026, equal to 78.1% of its net revenue. Electronic Arts reported $5,383 million in “live services and other” net revenue for its fiscal year ended March 31, 2026 (EA FY2026 Form 10-K). These categories are not identical, so their percentages should not be compared as if they measured the same thing. Examine the definition, trend and underlying products for each issuer.

Assess scale and results with the same-period EA example
Electronic Arts reported fiscal 2026 net revenue of $7,531 million, Net Bookings of $8,026 million and net income of $887 million. Alongside Take-Two’s $6,656.4 million in net revenue, $6,721.0 million in Net Bookings and $298.2 million net loss, these figures illustrate different scale and earnings outcomes for two publishers over fiscal years ended March 31, 2026. Bookings definitions differ, and a two-company example is not a sector-wide ranking.
For a broader comparison, define the peer set deliberately: publishers can differ in their exposure to mobile, console, PC, hardware, licensing and distribution. Then collect same-period primary filings for each selected company and apply the same financial and operating questions. These two examples alone do not establish which publisher is best or most profitable on a like-for-like basis.
Look at portfolio concentration and release cadence
Headline revenue can conceal reliance on a small number of franchises or annualized releases. Take-Two identified NBA 2K, Grand Theft Auto, Borderlands, Red Dead Redemption and WWE 2K, as well as mobile titles, among its key revenue contributors in its fiscal 2026 filing. For each publisher, inspect which franchises contribute materially, how frequently they release, and whether revenue depends on a few major launches or a broader portfolio.
Release timing also creates execution risk: delays or a weaker-than-expected launch can shift sales and related spending between periods. Take-Two’s fiscal 2026 filing listed November 19, 2026 as the planned date for Grand Theft Auto VI, and its FY2027 outlook was tied to the planned launch. Chairman and CEO Strauss Zelnick said in the company’s May 21, 2026 results release: “We believe Fiscal 2027 will establish new record levels of operating performance driven by the November 19th launch of Grand Theft Auto VI, along with strong execution across our portfolio.” This is management’s forward-looking outlook, not an established result; the planned date may change (Take-Two FY2026 results release).

Check platforms and distribution mix
Channel exposure affects how a publisher reaches customers and where its revenue comes from. Take-Two reported that mobile generated $3,333.0 million, or 50.1% of net revenue, in fiscal 2026; digital online distribution accounted for 97.0% of net revenue (Take-Two FY2026 Form 10-K). Compare equivalent disclosures for other publishers—mobile, console, PC, physical retail and digital delivery—and note when an issuer’s categories do not map neatly onto another’s. A high digital share is a distribution fact, not by itself a measure of profitability.
Test growth against cash generation and balance-sheet demands
Review audited cash-flow statements and notes for operating cash flow, cash, debt, capitalized software development and stock-based compensation. These help determine whether reported growth is generating cash and how much is being reinvested in development or otherwise committed. A full, comparable peer balance-sheet assessment requires those figures for each company; the revenue and bookings examples above are not enough to infer relative financial flexibility.
Keep valuation separate from business comparison
A stronger operating profile does not automatically mean a stock is attractively priced. Valuation work needs current market capitalization or enterprise value and a consistently selected earnings or cash-flow measure, with the date and calculation method stated. The figures here do not establish current valuations, multiples, target prices or a buy/sell conclusion. Treat business quality and share-price attractiveness as separate questions.
