Tales of Berseria Remastered is receiving generally favorable reviews, led by praise for its revenge story and cast. The main reservation is value: critics differ on whether convenience upgrades make this a worthwhile new edition, especially for players who already own the earlier release. Switch-specific technical complaints also should not be treated as verdicts on the PS5, Xbox Series X|S, or PC versions.

What are the critic reviews for Tales of Berseria Remastered?

Metacritic displayed a 77 Metascore from 42 critic reviews in its 2026 page snapshot, classifying reception as “Generally Favorable.” Its breakdown was 33 positive reviews (79%), eight mixed (19%), and one negative (2%). The live score and review count can change. Metacritic’s critic page also shows the divide in emphasis: PlayStation LifeStyle praised the release as a definitive version, while Hey Poor Player called it one of the least necessary remasters even as it recommended the underlying RPG to newcomers.

What do critics like about the game?

The story and cast

The most consistent praise is for the narrative and ensemble cast. The game follows Velvet Crowe on a revenge journey after her brother’s murder, a dark fantasy premise that gives the adventure a more mature tone than some players may expect from a colorful, party-based RPG. RPG Fan’s review excerpt says the narrative and characters “still carry the load”; TechRadar likewise highlights the revenge story while warning that its themes may feel heavy-handed to some. This is a stronger recommendation for players who want character-driven drama than for those seeking a lighthearted adventure. Metacritic · TechRadar

Combat with room to customize

Bandai Namco describes the action-RPG combat as combo-driven: characters use customizable skills and can steal “Souls” from enemies to empower attacks. Critics generally find the underlying RPG enjoyable, but its systems and character customization are not equally appealing to everyone. The same complexity that gives players room to experiment can make combat feel less immediately accessible. Bandai Namco

Tales of Berseria: REMASTERED - Nintendo Switch
  • A Tale of Emotion Versus Reason - Follow the journey of Velvet as she embarks on a journey of vengeance towards the murderers of her brother, torn between the person she was and the path her rage has set before her. Can she hold onto who she was, or will vengeance consume all that remains?
  • Exhilarating Battle System - Customize your skills to create unique playstyles and defeat your foes by unleashing a flurry of attacks. Engage in exhilarating battles by stealing “Souls” from your enemies to empower your combos.
  • A Modern, High-Quality Retelling - Play with new quality-of-life updates, including destination icons, the ability to toggle encounters, early grade shop access, and more.
  • An All-Around Experience - Enjoy the immersion with the DLC*, which was launched alongside the original release, including costumes, useful items, and other fun extras.

What changes in the remaster—and is it worth it?

Bandai Namco lists destination icons, the option to toggle encounters, early access to the Grade Shop, and original-release DLC among the remaster’s additions or included content. These conveniences can make a new playthrough smoother, and some reviewers welcome them. The counterargument is that the core game remains largely the same and that its older design weaknesses have not all been addressed. Bandai Namco’s feature list · Metacritic’s review excerpts

If you are new to Berseria

The favorable critical response is principally a recommendation of the RPG itself: its story, characters, and combat remain appealing to many reviewers. If you have not played it before and want a dark, character-led fantasy adventure, the remaster’s convenience features are an added benefit rather than the only reason to consider it.

If you own the earlier release

The decision is more difficult. The listed quality-of-life features and included DLC are concrete additions, but critics do not agree that they amount to a compelling second purchase. Consider whether destination markers, encounter toggling, early Grade Shop access, and the included content matter to your planned replay; reviews do not establish that the remaster replaces the earlier game with a substantially redesigned experience.

How does the Switch version compare?

Switch-filtered review excerpts include both praise for the narrative and portability and complaints about capped frame rate, visual issues, and input responsiveness. Those comments describe individual reviewers’ judgments, not a controlled technical comparison. They should be read as Switch-specific criticism, not evidence that the PS5, Xbox Series X|S, or Steam/PC editions share the same problems. TechRadar’s detailed review, for example, is of the base PS5 version; the available review evidence is not a matched benchmark across platforms. Platforms and editions

Bandai Namco lists Tales of Berseria Remastered for Nintendo Switch, Steam/PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S. Its U.S. launch announcement, dated February 27, 2026, lists Standard and Digital Deluxe editions. TechRadar lists its review as first published February 26, 2026; that difference may reflect outlet or regional timing, so neither date should be treated as a universal launch date. Check local storefronts for regional availability and edition details. Bandai Namco’s U.S. launch announcement · TechRadar review information

The publisher says the Digital Deluxe Edition includes the game, Battle BGM Pack, Digital Artbook & Soundtrack, and Super Growth Support Herb Set. That is an edition-content difference, not evidence of a different critic verdict. Bandai Namco
