An internet connection is required to apply the update. These are approximate figures from the launch notice, not permanent installation requirements: the notice says the figures can include different combinations of game and update data. Leave more free space than the displayed download size so the platform can stage, unpack, and replace files.
Do this before diagnosing any symptom
- Install version 2.0.0. Open the game’s normal update or manage-software command on your platform, start the internet update, and wait for the download and installation to finish completely.
- Restart the platform. A full restart clears a suspended game process and ensures the newly installed files are loaded.

Record the failure precisely
- Platform and model, such as Steam on Windows, Steam Deck, Switch, PlayStation 5, or Xbox Series X|S.

When a controller is not working on Steam
Steam lists Tales of Eternia Remastered as having “Full Controller Support” and specifically names Xbox Controllers and PlayStation Controllers. Steam Deck is marked Verified. Those labels establish intended compatibility; they do not prove that every Bluetooth adapter, remapping layer, cable, or third-party pad will work without configuration.

- Close the game.
- Disconnect extra gamepads, fight sticks, wheels, virtual controllers, and input utilities so that only the pad you want to test is active.
- Reconnect the controller by its normal wired or wireless method and confirm that the operating system or Steam sees it before launching the game.
- Start the game and test the title screen, menu navigation, and an in-game control. Note whether the failure affects every input or only vibration, a button, or an analog stick.
Check Steam Input and profiles
A Steam Input profile can translate controls, while a manufacturer utility or another remapper can translate them again. That combination may produce duplicate, missing, or incorrectly assigned inputs. In the game’s Steam controller settings, test the selected profile and Steam Input state one configuration at a time rather than changing several layers together. If a profile is clearly conflicting, return to the default gamepad layout and retest.
Restart Steam after changing the profile. If the controller works in Steam but not in the game, capture the controller model, connection type, Steam Input setting, and the exact buttons that fail. Present this as a platform diagnostic, not as a confirmed Tales of Eternia defect.

Xbox controller option
An Xbox Wireless Controller is a compatible physical option because Steam explicitly lists Xbox Controllers. It is an optional replacement or backup, not a remedy for a software defect. A different controller is useful only if the original pad, cable, Bluetooth link, or mapping layer is the source of the problem.
When a controller is not working on PlayStation
The PlayStation listing confirms offline play, one-player support, Remote Play, and vibration with DualSense or DUALSHOCK 4 controllers. It does not publish a game-specific controller-failure workaround.

- Pair the DualSense or DUALSHOCK 4 with the console through the normal system pairing process, or connect it by USB for a controlled test.
- Check that the controller operates in the console interface before starting the game.
- Close and relaunch the game after pairing; do not test from a suspended session.
- Test with one controller connected and note whether buttons work but vibration does not, or whether the game receives no input at all.
- If the console interface works but the updated game does not, report the controller model, connection method, system version, game version, and reproduction steps to support.
Steam Deck and handheld considerations
Steam marks the game Verified for Steam Deck, which indicates that the listing meets Steam’s compatibility criteria. It is not a promise that every community layout, dock, external controller, or operating-system modification will behave identically.

When to stop troubleshooting and contact support
