Is Tales of Eternia Remastered multiplayer?

The battle system is the returning Aggressive Linear Motion Battle System, a real-time 2D format. Battles can therefore feel active and tactical even though the product is designed for one player. The remaster’s new assistance options—such as Boost, Battle Retry and Quick Recovery—are also presented as ways for an individual player to handle difficult encounters, not as multiplayer substitutes.

Can you transfer a save between Switch, Switch 2, PlayStation and Steam?
There is no published official policy confirming cross-platform or cross-version save transfers. That means you should not assume that a save from Nintendo Switch will import into the Nintendo Switch 2 version, or that a PlayStation save can be moved to Steam. Steam Cloud should be read narrowly: it is a Steam feature, not a universal Tales of Eternia account. It does not establish compatibility with Nintendo, PlayStation or Xbox saves. If you change PC hardware, allow Steam to finish synchronizing before launching or replacing the local files, and keep a local backup when a playthrough matters. Those are general file-safety measures, not a guarantee that a save can be restored on another platform.

What is new in the remaster?
The release keeps the original real-time 2D battle foundation while adding navigation, convenience and challenge options. These additions are available in the remastered release rather than requiring a separate multiplayer or online mode.
Destination icons
Destination icons point toward the next story objective. They are intended to reduce the time spent guessing where the narrative expects you to go. This is guidance, not an automatic story progression system: you still control movement and decide how to approach the route.

An encounter toggle lets you control whether optional enemy encounters occur. Use it when you want to explore without constant interruptions, then turn encounters back on when you are ready to fight and develop your party. The feature changes encounter frequency; it does not turn the game into a multiplayer or combat-free title.

Boost
Boost is a new feature designed to give you more control during demanding sections. The official feature description groups it with Battle Retry and Quick Recovery as tools for taking on difficult encounters on your own terms. The available launch information does not define a single universal Boost effect for every character or battle, so consult the in-game explanation when you unlock or activate it.
Battle Retry after defeat
Battle Retry lets you attempt a fight again after a defeat instead of treating a loss as the end of the session. It is particularly useful for learning a boss pattern or testing a different approach without replaying the entire route to the encounter. The feature is a retry option, not a promise that every battle state, item use or temporary condition will be preserved exactly.
Quick Recovery
Quick Recovery provides a faster way to get your party ready after an encounter. It is one of the remaster’s convenience additions and is separate from the battle system itself. Use it to reduce routine recovery time between fights, while remembering that the game still expects you to manage progression and resources.

High-speed Auto-battle
Auto-battles can run at high speed. This is useful for routine encounters or when you are revisiting an earlier area and do not need every action to play at normal speed. High-speed mode affects the pace of an Auto-battle; it does not add an automated multiplayer partner or replace the real-time battle system for every situation.

Extreme and Unknown difficulty
Extreme difficulty is available from the start, so you can select it during a first playthrough if you want the toughest launch options immediately. Unknown difficulty becomes available after you complete the game. Keeping those unlock conditions separate is important: finishing the story is required for Unknown, while Extreme does not require a previous clear.
Can you switch between remastered and original presentation?
Yes. You can toggle graphics and sound effects between the remastered presentation and the original mode at any time. The official guide describes both versions as living in the same release, so you do not have to choose one presentation permanently at the start.
This switch covers the game’s visual presentation and sound effects. It should not be confused with a separate edition, a second purchase or a save-transfer function. Your platform, edition contents and save location remain governed by the store version you own.

The remaster retains the Aggressive Linear Motion Battle System, with real-time 2D encounters rather than turn-based command rounds. The result is a modernized presentation of the original battle structure, supplemented by optional assistance and speed controls.

Voice acting is available in English and Japanese. You can pair either performance with the story while using any of the supported interface and subtitle languages listed by Steam. Version 2.0.0 adds Japanese Font Style, adds Titles to the elements carried over into a second and later playthrough, and fixes text bugs. The carryover change applies to subsequent playthroughs; it does not mean that every first-run save automatically includes every New Game Plus element.
