The project team says the mod aims to restore content, bring the game to 60 frames per second, and add optional quality-of-life and battle changes. The beta has not begun as of October 7, so those features are the team’s announced plans—not independently verified results.
What the open beta is—and when it begins
The project team announced the open beta for October 11, 2026. It is a public testing phase for a fan mod, not a new official release from Bandai Namco. The announcement and feature descriptions come from the project team, with additional feature details reported by Wccftech.

The mod targets the Steam version of Tales of Symphonia. Steam identifies that PC release as based on the PlayStation 3 port of the original GameCube game and lists its release date as February 1, 2016. (Steam)
What the mod team says it is changing
The team describes the project as an effort to bring together content and improvements across versions while addressing issues it attributes to later ports. These are announced goals and features; the open beta is the first opportunity for the public to try the work.

Frame rate and battle options
The team says it is returning the game to 60 FPS. A project developer has also claimed that enabling 60 FPS fixed more than 100 bugs; this is the developer’s claim, not an independently audited count. (Project discussion)
Wccftech’s feature rundown includes Free Run, removal of the spell queue, more Arte shortcuts through an Artes Ball, manual Overlimit activation, and cutscene fast-forward. The team also describes quality-of-life and battle changes as optional, so players should check the mod’s release information to see which changes can be enabled or adjusted.

The fan mod is separate from Tales of Symphonia Remastered, Bandai Namco’s official release for Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One, which launched on February 17, 2023. Bandai Namco says the Steam version already contains the in-game content found in Remastered; its Q&A describes the Steam version as running at 30 FPS and says the console remaster was optimized for stable performance at 30 FPS. (Bandai Namco Q&A)
The distinction matters: the announced 60 FPS target and restoration work belong to a fan project for Steam, not to the official console remaster. The original game launched on GameCube in Japan in 2003 and worldwide in 2004, according to Bandai Namco. (Bandai Namco Q&A)
