The Pokémon Company announced the connection on August 13; Nintendo’s update history still lists version 4.0.0, released April 1, as the latest update.
Will FireRed and LeafGreen work with Pokémon HOME?
Yes, Nintendo Switch versions of Pokémon FireRed Version and Pokémon LeafGreen Version are scheduled to connect with Pokémon HOME beginning in October 2026. The Pokémon Company has announced the feature, but the official material available as of October 7 does not establish a specific release date or confirm that it has gone live. See The Pokémon Company’s announcement and Nintendo’s HOME update history.
The connection concerns the Switch eShop editions, not a new physical release. Nintendo says the games will be digital-only. Its US English FireRed listing is 39 MB and identifies Nintendo Switch 2 compatibility; Nintendo also cautions that language versions are separate editions rather than settings selected in the game. Check the edition’s language before buying. See Nintendo’s FAQ and the US English FireRed listing.
How will Pokémon transfers work?
Transfers go from the games to HOME, not back
Moving a Pokémon from either Switch game into Pokémon HOME is a one-way transfer. The Pokémon Company states: “Once a Pokémon from Pokémon FireRed Version or Pokémon LeafGreen Version is moved into Pokémon HOME, it will be unable to return to Pokémon FireRed Version or Pokémon LeafGreen Version.” Pokémon from other games cannot be moved into these two titles, either. Because the transfer cannot be undone, decide whether you want to keep a Pokémon in its original game before moving it.

Not every Pokémon can necessarily enter every destination game
Nintendo’s general guide to moving Pokémon between HOME and Pokémon games says a Pokémon can only be moved into games in which it appears. The announcement does not provide a complete species-by-species list of compatible destination games, so do not assume every Pokémon transferred from FireRed or LeafGreen can be sent to every other HOME-connected title.
Does the HOME Pokédex reward require transferring Pokémon?
No. When HOME connects to one of the games, Pokémon registered in that game’s Pokédex are also registered in HOME. Completing the FireRed or LeafGreen Pokédex qualifies you to receive Celebi as a Mystery Gift in the mobile version of Pokémon HOME. The announced reward is tied to completing the game’s Pokédex; the announcement does not say you must transfer the Pokémon themselves into HOME to qualify.

What else is included in the announced update?
Ticket encounters after the Elite Four
After defeating the Elite Four and entering the Hall of Fame, the Mystic Ticket and Aurora Ticket are automatically added to the Key Items. The Mystic Ticket leads to encounters with Lugia and Ho-Oh; the Aurora Ticket leads to Deoxys. These encounters are described as part of the Switch games’ postgame content.
More Premium storage
The Pokémon Company says version 4.1.0 will raise Pokémon HOME Premium storage from 6,000 to up to 9,000 Pokémon, with no change to the Premium price. Those are the capacities published by The Pokémon Company International in its 2026 announcement. The announcement does not establish that a Premium subscription is required for the FireRed and LeafGreen connection.

Pokémon GO Safari Ball change
After the October update, Pokémon caught using a Safari Ball in Pokémon GO are to be transferable to HOME. The ball will appear as a Strange Ball once the Pokémon is in HOME.

- On Nintendo Switch, highlight Pokémon HOME on the HOME Menu and press the plus (+) button.
- Choose Software Update, then Via the Internet, to check for an available update.
- Check HOME’s version after updating. Nintendo’s update-history page still lists 4.0.0, released April 1, 2026, as its latest entry; the page does not confirm version 4.1.0’s rollout.
These update-check steps follow Nintendo’s HOME update history. The announcement gives October 2026 as the planned start of compatibility, not a confirmed day.
