The reservations are more specific: one critic found the dual-protagonist approach underwhelming, and some reviews characterize the remaster’s improvements as modest. TechRadar’s review of the PS5 version additionally points to stiff animation and voice-mixing problems. These are that reviewer’s observations, not established problems across every platform.

Metacritic’s PS5 page displayed an 80 Metascore when accessed on October 8, 2026, from 29 critic reviews. The listed reviews date from November 2025 through January 2026. Because the score and sample can change, check the platform filter and review count when comparing it with another rating or a later snapshot. User reviews are separate and should not be mixed into the critic aggregate.

The excerpts illustrate the range of judgments. KonsoliFIN called the game a strong entry point for newcomers, citing the flow of its story and mechanics in its November 24, 2025 entry. Noisy Pixel’s November 3, 2025 excerpt praised the fast combat and cast while saying the dual-protagonist system remained underwhelming. RPG Fan’s January 5, 2026 excerpt recommended it to first-time players, while framing its availability on current-generation consoles as the critic’s assessment.
What the remaster changes
The remaster retains Jude Mathis and Milla Maxwell’s story in Rieze Maxia, along with the Dual Raid Linear Motion Battle System. Bandai Namco’s North American launch announcement lists the following additions and included content:
- Autosave and destination icons.
- Early access to the Grade Shop.
- An option to turn off general enemy encounters.
- DLC packs from the original release, including costumes and bonus items.
These are publisher-listed features, not independent performance measurements. Their value depends on what a player wants: encounter toggling can reduce interruptions, while autosave and destination guidance ease routine play. They do not, by themselves, establish how extensive the visual or technical upgrade is.

Is it worth playing?
The critic consensus points toward a good fit for players drawn to character-focused JRPG stories and fast, customizable combat, especially if modern conveniences matter to them. The mixed reviews offer a useful counterweight for players expecting a substantial overhaul or a dual-lead structure that fully satisfies both character routes. On PS5, TechRadar’s account also gives prospective players a reason to temper expectations around animation and voice presentation.
TechRadar identifies its review platform as PS5 and says the reviewer played about 30 hours, completed the main story with side content, and began New Game+ as Milla. That is one reviewer’s playthrough, not a claim about the length or experience every player will have.
Release dates and platforms
Bandai Namco announced a North American release date of October 31, 2025, for Nintendo Switch, PS5, Xbox Series X|S and PC via Steam. Steam lists October 30, 2025; that is the storefront’s date and should not be conflated with the publisher’s North American announcement. Bandai Namco said Standard and Digital Deluxe editions were available. The Steam page names DOKIDOKI GROOVEWORKS as developer and Bandai Namco Entertainment as publisher.
