A February 28, 2025 report on an Escape from Tarkov update described two major changes: snow was removed in favor of spring weather, and AI detection, combat behavior, spawning, and pathing were adjusted. The update’s version number and whether it remains the latest patch as of October 8, 2026, are not established here.
What changed in the Tarkov update?
Grant Taylor-Hill’s February 28, 2025 Insider Gaming report describes a seasonal shift from snow to spring conditions, alongside a set of AI changes and bug fixes. The report links to Battlestate Games’ full patch notes, but that official page returned 403 when accessed; the details below are therefore attributed to the report, not independently verified against the official notes.
Snow gives way to spring weather
The update reportedly removed snowy weather and brought back a spring atmosphere, including the possibility of more rain during raids. The report says the change also makes darker clothing and concealment in bushes viable visual options again. It does not provide detailed weather probabilities or map-by-map effects.
AI detection takes several factors into account
According to the report, AI detection depends on distance, viewing angle, weather, player stance, and the AI’s level of aggravation. Vegetation is also said to affect enemy vision, with Zryachiy, Birdeye, and the BTR named as exceptions. That summary describes intended behavior; it is not a tested guide to exact detection ranges or reliable ways to avoid detection.

How did enemy AI behavior change?
The report describes differences between common AI and more specialized enemies, as well as changes to how AI responds to players and shares information.
| Behavior | What the report says |
|---|---|
| Sharing information | AI information sharing is limited to nearby enemies. For an ungrouped bot, the report gives a maximum shout distance of 50 meters; this figure is reported by Insider Gaming and is not independently verified here. |
| Suppressive fire | Suppressive fire is reported as limited to Raiders, Rogues, and Bosses. |
| Common AI and walls | Common AI that cannot see a player reportedly will not shoot through walls. |
| Accuracy after a hit | AI accuracy reportedly drops after an enemy is hit. |
| Common AI at long range | Common AI that detects a player at long range reportedly waits until the player fires before engaging. |
Detection depends on the situation
The report’s summary suggests that an exposed player moving in clear sight may present a different detection situation from a prone player obscured by vegetation or affected by poor weather. It does not quantify how much any one factor changes detection, so these details should not be treated as guaranteed stealth tactics.
