This order comes from Andrea Shearon’s July 8, 2026 PC Gamer tier list after she cleared all four difficulty modes and reached level 101. It is an experienced reviewer’s view of the current meta, not an official ranking or a permanent rule. Your best pick still depends on stage, equipment drops, party composition and the job your roster is missing.
Task Bar Hero tier list at a glance
The community databases TBH: Task Bar Hero Wiki & Database and Task Bar Hero Index list six playable classes. Their role labels help explain why the order is not simply a damage chart: Ranger and Hunter are ranged damage specialists, Sorcerer focuses on area damage, Priest provides healing and support, Slayer is a melee berserker who can fill a tank role, and Knight is a frontline tank. The table below combines those roles with Shearon’s published placement.

| Rank | Class | Tier | Primary job | Best use | Main limitation in the cited list |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Ranger | S | Ranged DPS | Primary damage, including some solo Torment farming | Needs protection and favorable positioning when enemies reach the back line |
| 2 | Priest | A | Healer, support and tank/off-tank | Keeping a team alive while damage dealers clear waves | Usually contributes less direct damage than a dedicated DPS class |
| 3 (tie) | Hunter | B | Trapper and ranged DPS | Ranged damage when your weapon drops support the class | Generally does not replace Ranger without unusually good gear |
| 3 (tie) | Sorcerer | B | Area-damage DPS | Clearing groups and filling a third slot beside Priest and Ranger | Less convincing as the only damage source in a three-hero team |
| 5 | Slayer | C | Melee/berserker and tank | Traditional frontline play with Commander’s Cry party support | Overall output and reach trail the higher-ranked ranged choices |
| 6 | Knight | D | Tank and frontline | Learning frontline fundamentals or covering an immediate defense gap | Reportedly outclassed in harder difficulties; heavy late-game investment is discouraged by the cited list |
“After clearing all four difficulty modes and micromanaging my little guys all the way to max level (level 101), this is my definitive Task Bar Hero tier list for the current meta,” Shearon writes. That testing context matters: the placements describe a high-progression view, not a promise that every new account, early stage or casual party will perform in exactly the same order.
How to read this ranking
A tier is a shorthand for overall usefulness across the situations covered by the article, not a measurement of one skill or a guarantee of success. A class can be lower on the list and still be the correct answer when it supplies something your team lacks. For example, a Priest may finish a stage more reliably than a second damage dealer because healing and mitigation prevent a late wipe. Conversely, a Ranger can be the best investment when your team survives comfortably but cannot meet a damage check.

Each class has its own weapon restrictions, base statistics and skill tree, according to the community databases. Those sources caution that base stats alone do not determine strength. Treat the tiers as a starting point, then check which weapons you can actually equip, which upgrades you have unlocked and whether the next stage asks for single-target damage, wave clear or staying power.
1. Ranger — S tier
Ranger is the top class in the July 2026 list. Shearon identifies Ranger as the strongest choice in the current meta and the roster’s main damage priority. The database role labels agree on the core identity: Ranger is a ranged DPS class that can deal damage while staying away from frontline threats.
Why Ranger leads
- Consistent damage role: A team can build around Ranger as its primary source of damage instead of asking a support or tank to carry the clear.
- Safe positioning: Ranged attacks let her contribute while a sturdier hero absorbs pressure, which is valuable in difficult waves.
- Solo potential: Shearon says a solo Ranger setup can work for some Torment farming, although that is a situational claim rather than a universal solo recommendation.
- Clear upgrade priority: When a run needs more damage, improving the class that is already your main DPS gives the most direct path to faster clears.
Where Ranger can struggle
Ranger’s placement does not remove the normal risks of a back-line damage dealer. If enemies reach her, or if your equipment does not support her weapon restrictions and skill tree, the theoretical S-tier ceiling may not appear in practice. A party with no sustain can also lose before Ranger’s damage matters. Put a Priest or another durable frontliner beside her when survival, rather than raw output, is the bottleneck.
Who should choose Ranger?
Choose Ranger when you want a straightforward primary-DPS plan, have a weapon drop that fits her restrictions, or are farming content where your defensive setup already holds. She is also the clearest answer to “Which Task Bar Hero character is best?” when the question means “Which class has the strongest general performance in the current high-end meta?”
2. Priest — A tier
Priest ranks second and is the list’s most flexible safety pick. Shearon describes Priest as a healer and tank/off-tank who supports the party with Blessing of Might. The combination lets her stabilize a team while damage dealers focus on clearing waves.

What Priest contributes
- Healing: Priest can recover health and reduce the chance that a single mistake ends a run.
- Frontline flexibility: She can act as a tank or off-tank when the formation needs someone to absorb pressure.
- Team support: Blessing of Might adds value to the whole group rather than only to Priest’s personal damage.
- Progression reliability: A team that is slightly underpowered on paper can still advance when Priest smooths out incoming damage.
Priest’s trade-off
Priest is not ranked above Ranger because she replaces dedicated damage. Her value is defensive and supportive: she makes a damage dealer’s time on the field more productive. If your party already survives every wave and fails only because enemies live too long, adding another DPS may produce a faster clear than adding Priest.
When Priest is the best practical choice
Pick Priest when runs end with deaths, when a stage applies sustained pressure, or when you are assembling a balanced three-hero team. She is particularly useful for players who prefer a forgiving formation over a high-risk burst setup.
3. Hunter — B tier (tied)
Hunter shares B tier with Sorcerer. The databases describe Hunter as a trapper and ranged class, so the role sits between direct back-line damage and area control. Shearon notes that Hunter can replace Ranger when you receive favorable weapon drops, but she does not generally recommend making that swap.
Hunter’s strengths
- Ranged pressure: Hunter can deal damage without standing in the frontline.
- Trapper identity: Her control-oriented role can help manage enemy movement or create safer windows for the party.
- Gear-driven upside: A weapon that strongly favors Hunter can close the gap with Ranger for an individual account.
Why Hunter remains below Ranger
The B-tier placement reflects consistency across the broader progression rather than a claim that Hunter is unusable. Ranger is the safer default when both classes have comparable support. Hunter becomes more attractive when your actual drops, skill unlocks or stage layout reward traps and ranged control. In that circumstance, compare the clear you can produce with your equipment, not the letter on the tier list.
4. Sorcerer — B tier (tied)
Sorcerer also sits in B tier. Her defining advantage is area damage: she can hit groups and accelerate wave clear. Shearon specifically suggests Sorcerer as a third hero alongside Priest and Ranger, while finding her less compelling as the sole damage source in a three-person team.
Rank #3
- Next-gen 12,000 DPI HERO optical sensor delivers unrivaled gaming performance, accuracy and power efficiency
- Advanced LIGHTSPEED wireless gaming mouse for super-fast 1 ms response time and faster than wired performance
- Ultra-long battery life gives you up to 250 hours of continuous gaming on a single AA battery
- Lightweight mechanical design and classic shape for maximum maneuverability, durability and comfort
- Compact, portable design with convenient built-in storage for included USB wireless receiver
Why Sorcerer is valuable
- Wave clear: Group-focused attacks can remove clustered enemies faster than a single-target specialist.
- Complementary slot: Priest supplies sustain, Ranger supplies focused damage and Sorcerer adds area coverage, creating a well-rounded three-hero core.
- Stage-dependent power: The more a stage favors dense waves over isolated targets, the more Sorcerer’s specialty matters.
Limits of an all-in Sorcerer plan
Shearon’s caution about using Sorcerer as the only damage source is important. Area damage does not automatically solve elite or boss targets, and a team still needs enough protection to let Sorcerer cast. If your formation fails on single high-health enemies, pair her with Ranger rather than replacing Ranger outright.

Slayer is ranked below the ranged damage and support choices, but she is the preferred traditional tank in the cited comparison. Shearon favors Slayer over Knight because Commander’s Cry provides a party buff. The database classifies Slayer as melee/berserker, which explains the more aggressive feel of the frontline role.
Reasons to use Slayer
- Frontline presence: Slayer can stand where a ranged hero cannot and absorb attention.
- Party buff: Commander’s Cry gives the whole team a reason to field Slayer instead of treating her as a purely selfish melee attacker.
- Tank preference: If your team needs a conventional tank and Knight is underperforming in the current difficulty, Slayer is the recommended alternative in this ranking.
What keeps Slayer in C tier
Slayer’s melee range limits how quickly she can influence distant targets, and her overall placement says that the roster’s ranged damage and flexible support options usually generate more value. Choose her for the specific jobs above rather than expecting her to outperform Ranger as a general damage investment.
6. Knight — D tier
Knight is last in Shearon’s harder-difficulty tier list. The article says Knight is outclassed in those difficulties and advises against heavy resource investment there. The community database still identifies Knight as a tank/frontline class, so the low tier does not mean the role is incomprehensible or unusable; it means the cited current meta offers better ways to spend scarce late-game resources.
When Knight can still make sense
A new player may use Knight while learning positioning, or a roster may need any available frontline body before better options are unlocked. Early-stage success and high-end efficiency are different tests. If Knight lets you survive a current encounter and you have no alternative, use the class rather than abandoning a run solely because of the D label.

When to stop investing
Reconsider major upgrades when you reach harder difficulties and your problem is clear speed or scaling rather than basic survival. Based on the cited list, redirecting long-term resources toward Ranger, Priest or a stage-appropriate B-tier damage class is more defensible than building Knight as a permanent late-game centerpiece.

Which class deals the most damage?
Ranger is the overall damage priority in the current ranking. Sorcerer is the specialist for groups, while Hunter can become competitive when weapon drops favor her. The list does not provide a laboratory damage number or a universal damage-per-second test, so these are role and meta judgments, not measured statistics.
Which class keeps a team alive?
Priest is the clear support answer because she combines healing, tank/off-tank capability and Blessing of Might. Slayer can protect a formation from the frontline and add Commander’s Cry, but she does not replace Priest’s healing function.
Which class is best for wave clear?
Sorcerer’s area damage is the most direct fit. Ranger remains the higher overall priority because she supplies dependable primary damage, while Sorcerer’s advantage grows when enemies arrive in dense groups.

Which class depends most on gear?
Every class is affected by weapon restrictions and available upgrades, but Hunter’s placement comes with the clearest gear caveat: Shearon says favorable weapon drops can justify replacing Ranger. Check your actual equipment before treating a tie or tier gap as decisive.
Recommended team cores
Balanced progression: Ranger, Priest and Sorcerer
This is the three-hero example favored by the cited analysis: Priest handles sustain and support, Ranger supplies focused damage, and Sorcerer clears groups. It covers the most common split between surviving a stage and killing its waves quickly.
Damage-first farming: Ranger with a defensive partner
For content where your party already survives, make Ranger the investment priority and use Priest or another durable option to prevent back-line collapses. Shearon reports that solo Ranger can work for some Torment farming, but treat that as a situational route, not a requirement to play without support.
Frontline-focused setup: Slayer, Priest and a ranged DPS
Use Slayer when the stage demands a conventional frontliner and Commander’s Cry benefits the entire formation. Priest adds recovery, while Ranger or Hunter supplies damage from behind the melee line. This setup is less about chasing a theoretical tier and more about solving a formation problem.
How to choose your next class
- Identify the failure point. If enemies survive too long, prioritize Ranger or the damage type your weapons support. If heroes die first, prioritize Priest or a frontline class.
- Check the stage shape. Dense waves favor Sorcerer; isolated or durable targets favor a dependable primary DPS such as Ranger.
- Inspect usable equipment. Weapon restrictions, skill-tree progress and actual drops can move Hunter or another B-tier option ahead of a nominally stronger class on your account.
- Reserve the right number of slots. A three-hero team usually benefits from separating sustain, focused damage and area damage instead of stacking one role.
- Spend long-term resources carefully. The published warning about Knight applies most strongly in harder difficulties; avoid irreversible investment until the class solves a problem your roster genuinely has.
- Reevaluate after balance patches. Tier lists describe a moment in the meta. Recheck placements after major game updates rather than assuming the July 2026 order will remain unchanged.
What this tier list does—and does not—prove
The ranking is an attributed editorial judgment, not a developer-authored power ranking. PC Gamer’s evidence is Shearon’s experience clearing all four difficulty modes and reaching level 101. TBH: Task Bar Hero Wiki & Database and Task Bar Hero Index corroborate the six-class roster and broad role labels, but they do not establish a universal performance statistic. No named study or controlled class comparison supplies a win-rate or damage figure here.
That distinction explains why two players can report different results without either being wrong. A class’s weapon access, skill-tree state, stage layout and party partners can outweigh a one-letter tier difference. Use S through D to set an initial priority, then let your current bottleneck decide the final lineup.
Keeping the list current
For the July 2026 snapshot, the practical order is Ranger, Priest, Hunter/Sorcerer, Slayer and Knight. Recheck the game after major balance updates, new weapons or changes to difficulty scaling. If a patch changes a class’s skills or available equipment, the role-based reasoning still helps you adapt even before a new full tier list is published.
