Start with this diagnostic checklist
Before changing anything, check:
- Which program shows the error: it should be TeamViewer or a TeamViewer-related shortcut, service, or installer.
- When it began: note whether it followed an update, failed reinstall, antivirus alert, or manual cleanup.
- Your Windows architecture: go to Settings → System → About → System type. TeamViewer provides separate 32-bit and 64-bit clients.
- The file path: if the message shows a path, check whether it points to a TeamViewer folder, a temporary installer directory, an old profile, or somewhere unexpected.
teamviewer_resource_lt.dll is a TeamViewer application resource DLL, not a Windows system file. If it is missing, the safest repair is to remove the damaged TeamViewer installation and reinstall the correct client from TeamViewer’s official Windows download portal.
What teamviewer_resource_lt.dll does
This file belongs to TeamViewer’s localized resource-DLL family. The lt suffix is commonly identified in public file inventories as the Lithuanian resource variant, although that language mapping is not presented here as a TeamViewer-published specification.
The DLL normally sits beside TeamViewer’s executable or in a temporary directory created while TeamViewer is being installed. It is not part of:
- Windows itself
- Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributable
- DirectX
- A hardware driver
- A Windows-protected runtime
Historical public file records associate this filename with older TeamViewer packages, including a reported 32-bit build numbered 9.0.24951.0 and approximately 0.36 MB in size. These records are reference information only. They are not a recommendation to download that historical DLL, and current TeamViewer packages may use different filenames, capitalization, or resource packaging.

Errors associated with this file
You may see messages such as:
- “The program can’t start because teamviewer_resource_lt.dll is missing from your computer.”
- “The code execution cannot proceed because teamviewer_resource_lt.dll was not found.”
- “There was a problem starting teamviewer_resource_lt.dll.”
- “Error loading teamviewer_resource_lt.dll. The specified module could not be found.”
- “teamviewer_resource_lt.dll is either not designed to run on Windows or it contains an error.”
- “Cannot find teamviewer_resource_lt.dll.”
- “Cannot register teamviewer_resource_lt.dll.”
TeamViewer may also show the broader message:
TeamViewer: Failed to load resource DLL (TeamViewer_Resource.dll).
A missing-file message does not always mean that this particular file is the only problem. The file may be present but corrupt, blocked, incompatible with the executable, or dependent on another missing component.
Fix 1: Reinstall TeamViewer from its official installer
This is the most direct fix for a missing or damaged TeamViewer resource file.
Uninstall TeamViewer
- Save any work and close TeamViewer.
- Right-click the TeamViewer icon in the notification area near the clock.
- Choose Exit TeamViewer.
- Right-click Start and select Apps and Features or Installed apps.
- Find TeamViewer in the list.
- Select it and choose Uninstall.
- Follow the uninstall wizard.
- If the wizard offers Remove settings, leave it cleared for a normal reinstall. Select it only if you need a clean configuration and have backed up anything important.
- Restart Windows.
Removing settings can erase local TeamViewer configuration. A clean removal is useful when an old installation, damaged settings, or mixed files are involved, but it should not be treated as a harmless toggle.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsInstall the correct client
- Open TeamViewer’s official Windows download portal.
- Select the TeamViewer product you actually use, such as the full client, QuickSupport, or Host.
- Choose the architecture that matches your Windows installation.
- Run the downloaded
TeamViewer_Setup.exe. - In the installer, confirm that the publisher is TeamViewer Germany GmbH.
- Choose Default Installation.
- Select Accept – next and complete setup.
- Start TeamViewer from the new Start menu shortcut.
A 32-bit client is required on 32-bit Windows. On 64-bit Windows, either the 32-bit or 64-bit client can operate, but TeamViewer states that the two client architectures should not be installed simultaneously.
The repair worked if TeamViewer starts without the DLL message and its main interface loads normally. Test it before restoring custom settings, plugins, or old shortcuts.
Fix 2: Check whether antivirus removed the file
If TeamViewer worked until the file suddenly disappeared, inspect security history before downloading anything.
Check Microsoft Defender Protection history
- Open Start and search for Windows Security.
- Select Virus & threat protection.
- Choose Protection history.
- Open any detection associated with TeamViewer.
- Inspect the detected file path, threat name, and publisher.
- Do not choose Restore or Allow on device merely because the filename looks familiar.
Microsoft documents the restore and allow actions, but allowing a file can expose the PC if the detection is correct. The safer process is to reinstall TeamViewer from its signed official installer. If you strongly suspect a false positive, submit the detection to the security vendor and verify the replacement installation before allowing anything.

Run a scan as well:
- Open Windows Security.
- Select Virus & threat protection.
- Choose Scan options.
- Run Full scan.
If the file is quarantined again immediately after reinstalling, do not keep restoring it. Check the detection details, scan the computer, and contact TeamViewer or your security vendor.
Fix 3: Remove mixed 32-bit and 64-bit remnants
A TeamViewer executable can request a resource DLL that does not match the installation around it. This can happen after an upgrade, failed uninstall, or manual copying of program files.
Check your system type
- Press Windows + I.
- Select System.
- Choose About.
- Read System type.
Then uninstall every unwanted TeamViewer entry from Settings → Apps → Installed apps. Restart Windows and install one appropriate client from TeamViewer.

Do not copy a 32-bit resource DLL into a 64-bit TeamViewer directory, or the reverse. A correctly named file can still be the wrong build or architecture.
Recommended Free Tools
If the error appears from an old desktop shortcut, delete the shortcut and launch TeamViewer from the Start menu after reinstalling. Also check whether a separate Host, service, deployment package, or remote-management agent has installed another TeamViewer copy.
Fix 4: Repair the installation without copying a DLL
If TeamViewer still opens far enough to show its settings, check for an update or repair option within the application. Otherwise, repeat the uninstall and reinstall process, including Remove settings if the ordinary reinstall did not help.
Before reinstalling, look at the error’s full path. A message pointing to %TEMP%, an old user profile, a network share, or a deleted program directory may be coming from an obsolete installer or shortcut rather than the current TeamViewer installation.
If you must use an older TeamViewer release for a licensed legacy environment, obtain it through TeamViewer’s official older-version resources. Do not mix files from different releases. Historical records for this filename do not establish a complete version history, and a current installer may not contain this exact filename.
Fix 5: Repair broader Windows component corruption
DISM and SFC do not normally recreate a missing third-party TeamViewer DLL. Use them when Windows Update, installers, or several unrelated applications are also failing.
Microsoft recommends installing current Windows updates and restarting before running these commands.
Run DISM and SFC
- Open Start and type Command Prompt.
- Right-click Command Prompt.
- Select Run as administrator.
- Approve the User Account Control prompt.
- Run:
DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Restorehealth
- Wait for it to finish.
- Run:
sfc /scannow
- Restart Windows.
- Run the official TeamViewer installer again.
DISM repairs the Windows component store, while SFC checks protected Windows files. If SFC reports no integrity violations, that does not clear or restore a missing TeamViewer DLL. Continue with the TeamViewer reinstall.
Repeatedly running SFC and DISM can be tedious when you are unsure what changed. Outbyte PC Repair can scan for system problems and show what needs attention; its repair features require the full version, and reinstalling TeamViewer remains the definitive fix for this application-specific DLL.

Do not normally run:
regsvr32 teamviewer_resource_lt.dll
Microsoft’s regsvr32 command is intended for DLLs that provide registration entry points such as DllRegisterServer. A localized TeamViewer resource DLL is not normally a COM or ActiveX server.
If you already tried it and received:
The module was loaded but the entry-point DllRegisterServer was not found.
that does not mean Windows has lost a registry entry. It usually means the command does not apply to this type of DLL. Reinstall the application that owns the file instead.

Fix 7: Check drivers only when other symptoms point there
A TeamViewer resource DLL is not a hardware driver, so updating drivers is not a primary repair. Consider driver troubleshooting only if TeamViewer also crashes during display capture, remote control, or device access, or if Device Manager shows a separate warning.
Check Device Manager
- Right-click Start.
- Select Device Manager.
- Look for a yellow warning icon.
- Expand Display adapters, Network adapters, and any category related to the affected device.
- Right-click the affected device.
- Select Update driver.
- Choose Search automatically for drivers.
- Restart Windows if prompted.
Do not remove a working driver just because teamviewer_resource_lt.dll is missing. Outbyte Driver Updater can scan for outdated drivers instead of making you hunt through multiple vendor pages; the free scan identifies issues, while driver installation through the full version is optional and is not a substitute for reinstalling TeamViewer.
What not to do
Avoid these common mistakes:
- Downloading the DLL from a random file repository
- Copying it into
C:WindowsSystem32 - Copying it into
C:WindowsSysWOW64 - Replacing it with a file from another TeamViewer version
- Using DLL download sites utilities
- Cleaning the registry to repair an application resource
- Restoring an antivirus quarantine item without checking its path and detection
- Installing 32-bit and 64-bit TeamViewer clients together
A file with the right name is not necessarily authentic. Its location, digital signature, build compatibility, and installer provenance all matter. The official TeamViewer installer is the appropriate source.
If the error remains after reinstalling
Check these possibilities:
- Another executable is generating the message. Read the title bar and full path carefully.
- An old shortcut is still being used. Launch TeamViewer from Start instead.
- A second installation exists. Check Installed apps and common TeamViewer service entries.
- Security software is blocking the file. Review Protection history and endpoint-security logs.
- The installer is incomplete. Download it again from TeamViewer and verify its publisher.
- The file is present but cannot load. A dependent DLL may be missing, the file may be corrupt, or the architecture may be incompatible.
- The error is
0xc000007b. Treat it as a possible corruption or architecture mismatch and reinstall the entire package rather than replacing one file. - The program runs from a temporary folder or network share. Install TeamViewer locally using the official setup program.
If several unrelated programs show similar loading errors, repair Windows components and investigate security software. If only TeamViewer is affected, keep the investigation focused on TeamViewer’s installation and configuration.
System Restore as a fallback
Use System Restore only when the problem began after a known installation or system change and a suitable restore point exists.
- Press Windows + R.
- Enter:
rstrui.exe
- Press Enter.
- Select a restore point created before the TeamViewer failure.
- Choose Scan for affected programs.
- Review the results.
- Select Finish if the restore point is appropriate.
System Restore can revert system files, settings, installed programs, and drivers while ordinarily leaving personal files unchanged. It is not the normal first-line repair for a missing TeamViewer resource file.
FAQ
Is teamviewer_resource_lt.dll a Windows file?
No. It is a TeamViewer application resource DLL and should not be placed in a Windows system directory.
Is it part of Visual C++?
No. The filename identifies a TeamViewer resource file, not a Microsoft Visual C++ runtime. Repair Visual C++ only if the error separately names files such as vcruntime140.dll or msvcp140.dll.
Can I download this DLL separately?
That is unsafe and often ineffective. The file must match the TeamViewer executable, architecture, and resource set. Reinstall TeamViewer from its official installer.
Why does the error say the module could not be found when the file exists?
The requested DLL may have a missing dependency, incompatible architecture, corruption, or a security block. Replacing only the visible file can hide the actual cause.
Does regsvr32 fix it?
Normally, no. Resource DLLs are not generally registered like COM or ActiveX components.
Will SFC restore this file?
Normally, no. SFC repairs protected Windows files, not ordinary third-party TeamViewer resources.
Should I reinstall Visual C++?
Only when another message identifies a Visual C++ runtime or the TeamViewer installer reports a runtime dependency failure. It is not the primary fix for this filename.
