Tencent’s TiMi Montreal game-development studio closed in February 2026, according to contemporaneous reports. The studio had been working on an unannounced multiplatform game and reportedly shut down without releasing a title. Tencent and TiMi did not provide a public explanation in the reporting reviewed.
What happened to TiMi Montreal?
Game File reported on February 22, 2026, that TiMi Montreal had shut down, citing a LinkedIn post by a studio programmer saying it had officially closed. Other people affiliated with the studio also posted about the closure. Game File said Tencent and TiMi representatives did not comment when contacted (Game File).
Game Developer described the closure as apparent in its February 23 coverage, citing the employee post and Game File’s reporting (Game Developer). TVA Nouvelles relayed that Eurogamer placed the closure on February 20; that is a reported date, not a date confirmed by Tencent or TiMi (TVA Nouvelles).
What was TiMi Montreal working on?
Tencent announced the Montreal studio in July 2021 with a stated mission “to create AAA open world multi-platform games,” as reproduced by Game File (Game File). Closure coverage described its work as an unannounced, service-driven open-world game for PC and consoles. Game Developer said it was unclear what would happen to the project; the reporting does not establish a title, release plan or eventual disposition.
