Terraria has no universal vanilla “console command” system for players. The commands you can use depend on where you enter them: a dedicated-server terminal has administrative commands, while in-game chat has only a small set of vanilla player commands. Server launch options and configuration files are separate again.
Which Terraria command interface do you need?
| Interface | Who uses it | What it does |
|---|---|---|
| Dedicated-server terminal | Server operator | Manages a running server and world, including saving, player moderation, and time controls. See the Terraria Wiki server reference. |
| In-game chat | Player | Provides the vanilla chat commands /p and /me; it is not a general-purpose cheat or item-spawning console. See the Terraria Wiki chat reference. |
| Startup options and configuration | Server operator | Sets options as the server starts or through its configuration file; these are not runtime chat commands. See the Terraria Wiki server reference. |
| Mods or desktop debugging | Depends on the mod or testing setup | May add commands or expose testing tools, but these are not vanilla player commands and do not establish console-edition support. |
Vanilla dedicated-server console commands
Enter these in the terminal of a running dedicated server. A leading slash is not required. Availability can vary by installed server version, so check help and the server documentation for your build.

Vanilla commands you can enter in player chat
The standard vanilla player chat commands listed by the Terraria Wiki are limited to these two. They do not grant server administration or let players spawn items.
| Chat command | Function |
|---|---|
/p <message> |
Sends a message to members of your team. |
/me <message> |
Sends a third-person-style message. |
Console editions: opening chat is not the same as having server commands
The chat reference lists ways to open chat on Xbox, PlayStation, and Nintendo Switch, but it does not establish that the dedicated-server terminal command list works as commands in those editions. Chat controls and command availability are different questions. Check the current in-game or platform control settings for button mappings; do not assume PC server commands can be entered on a console.

Server startup options and configuration are separate
Launch parameters are supplied when starting a dedicated server, not typed as live player chat commands. The server reference lists options including -config, -port, -players or -maxplayers, -pass or -password, and -world. A server configuration file can specify the world, difficulty, player limit, port, password, message of the day, and permissions for Journey Mode powers. Consult the server documentation for the syntax and details applicable to your version.
Mods and debug commands are not vanilla chat commands
Third-party server software or mods can add commands. The Terraria Wiki names TShock and TerrariaPatcher as examples; their commands belong to those tools, so use the documentation for the particular mod and version rather than treating them as built-in Terraria syntax.

That does not mean they are available in an ordinary retail game or on console editions. See the Terraria Wiki debug commands reference.
