Texas sued Roblox in November 2025, alleging that the platform misled parents about child safety and failed to adequately protect minors from grooming, sexual exploitation, explicit material and child sexual abuse material. The case is still unresolved. A Travis County court dismissed Texas’s common-nuisance claim on March 6, 2026, but allowed the state’s claim under the Texas Deceptive Trade Practices Act to continue.
The phrase “pixel pedophiles and profits” comes from Attorney General Ken Paxton’s public description of the case. It is a political characterization—not a court finding. The allegations in Texas’s petition still have to be proved or disproved.

The short version

What Texas alleges
Texas’s petition presents the case as a consumer-protection and platform-safety dispute. The state alleges that Roblox represented itself to parents as a safe environment for children despite allegedly knowing that minors could encounter serious risks on the service.

- Allowed adults and children to interact in ways that allegedly created opportunities for grooming and sexual exploitation.
- Permitted or facilitated access to sexually explicit material and child sexual abuse material.
- Did not adequately protect minors through moderation, communication controls and other safety measures.
- Used monetization and engagement systems in ways Texas says encouraged prolonged use and revenue generation rather than sufficient child protection.
These are allegations made in a civil complaint. The petition’s descriptions of incidents, users or content should not be treated as independently established facts, and user-created material should not automatically be described as content created or endorsed by Roblox.
Why Paxton said “pixel pedophiles and profits”
“Pixel pedophiles and profits” is language used in Paxton’s announcement. It summarizes the attorney general’s theory that Roblox’s commercial priorities came before child safety.
The wording should not be read as a judicial conclusion that Roblox protected predators, committed criminal abuse or knowingly put profits above children. The legal question in this case is narrower and more specific: whether Roblox engaged in actionable deceptive conduct and violated duties recognized under Texas law.

Texas Deceptive Trade Practices Act
The principal claim still in the case is under the Texas Deceptive Trade Practices Act. Texas’s theory is that Roblox made misleading or deceptive representations to consumers—particularly parents—about the safety of its platform and the protections available to minors.

A consumer-protection lawsuit is not the same as a criminal prosecution of individual predators. Roblox could face civil penalties or court-ordered changes even if no court finds that the company itself committed a criminal offense.
Common nuisance
Texas also pleaded that Roblox constituted a common nuisance under state law. Roblox’s SEC filing says the court dismissed that claim on March 6, 2026.
That dismissal did not end the lawsuit. The Deceptive Trade Practices Act claim survived, meaning the case continued after the nuisance theory was removed.

What the March 2026 ruling does—and does not—mean
Allowing the Deceptive Trade Practices Act claim to proceed does not mean the court found that Texas’s allegations are true. A motion-to-dismiss ruling generally addresses whether a claim is legally sufficient to continue, not whether the evidence has ultimately proved liability.

Likewise, the dismissal of the nuisance claim does not mean Roblox won the entire case, and the surviving claim does not mean Texas has won. The parties would still need to litigate the factual and legal questions behind the remaining claim.
What Texas is asking for
The petition seeks:
- Civil penalties.
- Declaratory relief.
- Injunctive relief requiring changes to Roblox’s conduct or safety practices.
- Attorneys’ fees and litigation costs.
- Other relief the court considers appropriate.
The sources reviewed do not establish a final damages figure. It would therefore be inaccurate to report a specific monetary demand as the settled value of the case.
Roblox’s position
Roblox has defended its broader safety record and described the platform as having rigorous safety features. In a response to a separate Louisiana lawsuit, Roblox highlighted systems including Roblox Sentinel and said that 64% of its user base was 13 or older. That statement was made in the Louisiana litigation, not as a verified Texas-specific response.

- The state may be overstating the frequency or nature of abuse on the platform.
- Roblox has moderation, reporting, filtering, age-based restrictions and other safety systems.
- Bad actors violate Roblox’s rules and do not represent the company’s intended service.
- The company disputes that its safety representations were deceptive.
Roblox’s public response to the Louisiana case is available from the company’s newsroom. It should not be presented as the company’s formal answer to every allegation in Texas.
Potential defenses such as Section 230 may also become relevant, but the reviewed sources do not establish that the Texas court has resolved such a defense in this case.
How this fits into the wider Roblox litigation
Roblox’s SEC filing says multiple states had filed lawsuits or begun investigations involving youth-related consumer-protection and digital-safety issues. As of April 30, 2026, the company listed Florida, Iowa, Kentucky, Louisiana, Nebraska, Texas and Tennessee among states that had filed suit.

Why the case matters beyond Roblox
The Texas lawsuit reflects a broader dispute over how online platforms should handle young users, user-created content and communication between adults and minors.
Several issues are likely to matter as the litigation develops:
- Age assurance: Platforms must decide how to distinguish children, teens and adults without creating new privacy or access problems.
- Communication design: Text chat, voice chat, private messages and off-platform contact can present different risks and may require different controls.
- Moderation limits: The existence of reporting or filtering tools does not prove that they are effective, just as allegations of failures do not prove that no safeguards exist.
- User-created experiences: Roblox hosts experiences created by users, which complicates the question of how responsibility should be divided between the platform and individual creators.
- Monetization: Texas’s petition presents Robux and engagement incentives as part of its theory, but that does not establish that Robux itself is a grooming mechanism.
What parents and users should take from the case
The lawsuit does not mean that every Roblox experience is unsafe or that every interaction involves a predator. It does mean that parents should distinguish between Roblox’s platform-wide policies and the risks that can arise in particular games, chats or relationships.
Practical concerns include:
- Which communication features a child can use.
- Whether a child is interacting with known friends or strangers.
- Attempts to move conversations to other platforms.
- Requests for personal information, images, money or secrecy.
- Whether a child knows how to report, block and tell a trusted adult about concerning behavior.
Roblox’s settings and interface can change over time. Because the available evidence does not verify the current menu names or click-by-click navigation, parents should use Roblox’s current official safety and parental-control documentation rather than rely on outdated instructions.

The one-day difference between November 6 and November 7 is an announcement-versus-filing-date distinction, not necessarily a contradiction. Texas legislative records identify the case as D-1-GN-26-000981.
What remains unresolved
The central questions have not been decided. Texas still has to establish that Roblox’s conduct violated the Texas Deceptive Trade Practices Act. The case may also determine how the court evaluates Roblox’s safety representations, moderation systems, age-related practices and monetization model.
As of August 18, 2026, the reviewed sources do not establish a final judgment, settlement, trial verdict or statewide injunction. The case should therefore be described as an active civil lawsuit involving disputed allegations—not as proof that Roblox is legally responsible for the conduct alleged in the petition.
