tfhkaif.dll is a third-party fiscal-printer integration library used by POS, accounting, invoicing, and fiscal-printer applications, not a Windows system file. The safest fix is to repair or reinstall the program that installed it, then confirm that its printer connection variant and 32-bit library match the application.
What this file actually does
tfhkaif.dll is a Win32 C/C++ API library from The Factory HKA C.A. for communicating with TFHKA fiscal printers. Integration documentation describes functions including OpenFpctrl, CheckFprinter, ReadFpStatus, SendCmd, and CloseFpctrl.

That means the file normally belongs in the installation directory of the POS or accounting application that uses the printer. It should not normally be copied to C:WindowsSystem32 or C:WindowsSysWOW64.

Reported Windows-style messages include “The program can’t start because tfhkaif.dll is missing from your computer,” “Error loading tfhkaif.dll,” and “The code execution cannot proceed because tfhkaif.dll was not found.” These messages identify the loading failure, but not necessarily the root cause.

Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Fix 1: Repair or reinstall the fiscal-printer application
This is the most reliable fix because the application installer should provide the matching DLL, supporting files, configuration, and printer connector.
Before changing anything, close the POS or accounting program and make sure you have a backup of its data. If the application stores data locally, ask the software vendor where its database and configuration files are kept.
Use Windows repair
- Press Windows + I to open Settings.
- Select Apps.
- Select Installed apps on Windows 11, or Apps & features on Windows 10.
- Find the POS, accounting, invoicing, or fiscal-printer program.
- Select the three-dot menu on Windows 11, or select the program on Windows 10.
- Choose Advanced options if available.
- Select Repair and wait for Windows to finish.
- Start the application and test the printer.
If there is no Repair button:
- Open Control Panel.
- Select Programs, then Programs and Features.
- Select the affected application.
- Choose Change, Repair, or Modify, depending on what the installer provides.
- Select the fiscal-printer or printer-integration component if the installer lists optional features.
- Restart Windows and test again.
A successful repair usually restores tfhkaif.dll to the application’s own directory and allows the program to open. If the same error remains, uninstall and reinstall the application using the original installer supplied by the software vendor or authorized distributor.
Do not uninstall first if you are unsure where the application stores business data or licensing information. Confirm that you have the installer, license details, printer settings, and a current backup.

Use the application’s own repair function
Some applications include a Verify files, Repair installation, or Reinstall printer integration option in their Start menu folder or configuration utility.
Use that option before manually copying a DLL:
- Open Start and search for the application name.
- Check its shortcuts for Repair, Configuration, Maintenance, or Printer setup.
- Run the maintenance utility as administrator if the vendor requires elevated access.
- Select the fiscal-printer integration component.
- Complete the repair and restart the application.
If the application is managed by a launcher, use the launcher’s built-in Verify or Repair files command.
Fix 2: Check the application folder and printer variant
If the program was recently updated, moved, or reinstalled, inspect its installation folder.
- Right-click the application shortcut.
- Select Properties.
- On the Shortcut tab, read the Target path.
- Select Open File Location.
- Look for
tfhkaif.dlland any vendor-supplied alternatives such astfhkaif_USBortfhkaif_pa. - Do not rename an arbitrary variant.
- Open the application’s printer configuration and confirm whether it uses serial or USB communication and the correct regional setup.
- Apply the configuration and test a non-critical printer operation.
Some software manuals place the alternate files in a subfolder such as PAdm, then instruct the user to copy the matching file into the application root. Follow that application’s instructions exactly. Do not use a copy from another computer unless the vendor confirms that the two installations have the same application build, printer model, connection type, and architecture.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteWindows searches the application directory as part of its DLL loading process. Keeping the vendor-supplied library beside the executable is therefore normally more appropriate than placing it in a system folder.
Fix 3: Check antivirus quarantine
Security software may have removed the DLL after detecting it as suspicious, or it may have quarantined a damaged or unofficial replacement.
Check Windows Security
- Open Start and search for Windows Security.
- Select Virus & threat protection.
- Select Protection history.
- Review recent entries for the application folder or
tfhkaif.dll. - Expand an entry to view its action and file path.
- If the file came from the original application installer, contact the software vendor before choosing Restore or Allow on device.
- If it came from a random download, leave it quarantined and remove it.
- Reinstall the application from its original vendor source.
Microsoft warns that restoring a quarantined file can cause Defender to detect it again unless you deliberately allow it. Do not create an antivirus exclusion merely to make the error disappear. Verify the installer and file source first.

Fix 4: Confirm 32-bit compatibility and dependencies
The documented Tfhkaif integration library is a Win32 library. A 64-bit Windows installation can run many 32-bit applications, but the application still needs the correct 32-bit DLL and any required 32-bit dependencies.
To check the application architecture:
- Open Task Manager with Ctrl + Shift + Esc.
- Select the Details tab.
- Start the affected application if it opens far enough to appear.
- Right-click a column heading and select Select columns.
- Enable Platform if Windows offers that column.
- Check whether the process is 32-bit or 64-bit.
You can also right-click the application executable, select Properties, and inspect the Details tab, although that tab may not identify architecture.
If a dependency is missing, Windows may say “The specified module could not be found” even when tfhkaif.dll is visible in the folder. In that case:
- Run the application’s original installer again.
- Choose Repair or install the complete printer connector.
- Review the installer’s prerequisites.
- If the installer specifically identifies a missing Microsoft Visual C++ runtime, install the matching x86 package from Microsoft.
- Restart Windows and test the application.
Do not install a Visual C++ package just because the DLL error mentions a module. No verified source establishes that every tfhkaif.dll build requires that runtime. If the affected program is 32-bit, the x86 runtime is the relevant package, even on 64-bit Windows. Do not remove existing Visual C++ redistributables indiscriminately.
Fix 5: Update or reinstall the printer and connector drivers
A missing DLL is usually repaired through the application installer, not Device Manager. However, a fiscal-printer connector may also depend on a USB, serial, or vendor device driver.

- Right-click Start.
- Select Device Manager.
- Expand Ports (COM & LPT), Universal Serial Bus controllers, and any category named Printers or Other devices.
- Look for a warning icon or an unrecognized fiscal-printer device.
- Right-click the relevant device and select Properties.
- Read the Device status on the General tab.
- On the Driver tab, note the provider and driver date.
- Use Update driver only with a driver from the printer or connector vendor.
- Restart Windows and confirm that the expected COM port or USB device appears.
If the driver is corrupt, select Uninstall device, disconnect the printer, restart Windows, and install the vendor’s driver package before reconnecting it. Record the COM port number if the application requires one.
Hunting through Device Manager and matching old printer drivers by hand can be slow, especially when several similar devices are installed. Outbyte Driver Updater can scan for outdated drivers; its free scan shows what it found, while driver installation is handled by the full version. Reinstalling the fiscal-printer application and its vendor connector remains the definitive fix for a missing tfhkaif.dll.
Fix 6: Do not use regsvr32 as a routine solution
regsvr32 is intended for DLLs that expose COM or ActiveX registration functions. tfhkaif.dll is documented as an API library whose functions are called by an application, and there is no evidence that it supports COM self-registration.

Running a command such as this is therefore usually irrelevant:
regsvr32 tfhkaif.dll
It may produce an error stating that DllRegisterServer was not found. That does not prove the file is damaged. Repair the application or printer connector instead.
Registration is appropriate only when the application’s official documentation explicitly instructs you to register a component and identifies the correct file and command.
Fix 7: Repair Windows components only when broader corruption is suspected
SFC and DISM are not replacement mechanisms for a third-party application DLL. Use them when several Windows features are failing, system files are corrupted, Windows Update is malfunctioning, or the problem began with wider operating-system damage.
- Open Start and search for Command Prompt.
- Right-click it and select Run as administrator.
- Run:
DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Restorehealth
- Wait for the command to complete.
- Then run:
sfc /scannow
- Restart Windows.
- Retry the fiscal-printer application.
Microsoft recommends running DISM before SFC. If SFC reports that it repaired files, test the application again. If both commands complete without solving the error, return to the application repair and dependency checks rather than repeating them indefinitely.
Repeatedly hunting for Windows corruption can take time without identifying which application file changed. Outbyte PC Repair can show issues found by its free scan, while repair is handled by the full version. It is optional, and reinstalling the program that owns tfhkaif.dll remains the definitive fix.
Avoid random DLL downloads
Do not download tfhkaif.dll from an unverified DLL catalogue and copy it into a system folder. That approach can introduce malware, provide the wrong architecture or printer variant, overwrite a valid file, and leave the missing dependency or damaged installation untouched.
Use these sources instead:
- The original POS, accounting, or invoicing application installer
- The fiscal-printer connector supplied by the application vendor
- The printer manufacturer or authorized distributor
- The Factory HKA distributor supporting your region
There is no need to place this application library in System32 or SysWOW64. If a vendor supplies a replacement, preserve its original filename and follow the vendor’s documented destination.
