Spoilers for the Shatterscarp side quest. To complete “That Which Remains,” take the Flame-Eaten Diary from the Aedyran Cleric’s body at Scaedclef, use the Research House Key to find the Well Key, then open the well and follow the grotto passage to the Dreamthralls. You can leave them alive and request provisions from Captain Wymgar, kill them first, or attack Fewen and end the quest early.
Start the quest at Scaedclef
Travel to the burned settlement of Scaedclef in the Ancient Lakebed area of Shatterscarp, east of Eagle’s Reach Party Camp. Search the Aedyran Cleric’s corpse and take the Flame-Eaten Diary to begin “That Which Remains.” Game8 describes entering the burned house through a hole in its roof; GameSpot also identifies the diary on the cleric’s body as the quest trigger. Find the Research House Key and Well Key
Get into the adjacent burned house
Go to the neighboring burned house to find the Research House Key. One route is to break through a gate on the right and follow the cave passage into the house. Alternatively, Game8 says you can pick the front door’s lock with three lockpicks. The key is inside. (Game8; GameSpot)

- Throw an explosive at the wall to break through. Game8 also describes shooting a nearby red barrel as a way to open the route.
- Continue through the passage to the cage holding the Dreamthralls. Climb the rocks or ledge beside or behind the cage to reach the survivors in the next room.
Choose what happens to the Dreamthralls
The survivors disagree about whether to kill the caged Dreamthralls or get provisions. Your options affect what happens in the grotto and how you finish the quest; the guides do not establish broader main-story consequences.
| Choice | What happens | Quest result |
|---|---|---|
| Leave the Dreamthralls alive and ask Wymgar for provisions | Wymgar says he will handle the Dreamthralls if they remain alive and agrees to send provisions to the survivors. | Travel to Eagle’s Reach and speak with Captain Wymgar to complete the quest and receive the reported 900 gold/Coins reward. |
| Kill the Dreamthralls, then speak with the survivors | You can still ask Wymgar for provisions, or tell the survivors the Dreamthralls are dead and go to Eagle’s Reach. | Complete the quest through Wymgar for the reported 900 gold/Coins reward. |
| Attack Fewen | The quest ends immediately. | The guides say this route gives up the Wymgar completion reward; Game8 reports XP instead of the coin reward. |
GameSpot and Game8 report the Wymgar reward as 900 gold and 900 Coins, respectively. The wording differs between guides, so these labels should not be treated as a real-world conversion. (Game8; GameSpot)

Finish the quest through Captain Wymgar
For either route that keeps the survivors’ discussion going, go to Eagle’s Reach and speak with Captain Wymgar. If you chose to ask for provisions, make that request in the conversation. The guides report that speaking with him completes the quest and pays the reward above. If you attack Fewen instead, the quest ends immediately and you do not follow this Wymgar completion route.
