The 20 Best PC Games You Could Play by April 30, 2025

If you want one recommendation, start with Baldur’s Gate 3. It is the broadest all-round choice here: a large, reactive role-playing game with party-building, meaningful decisions, a story-first campaign, and cooperative play. But there is no single objective best PC game. Players who value discovery may prefer Elden Ring or Outer Wilds; strategy fans may get more from Factorio, Dwarf Fortress, or RimWorld; and anyone looking for short, repeatable sessions should consider Balatro or Hades.

This is a snapshot of the best PC games a reader could play by April 30, 2025. It is not limited to games released during April. The ranking weighs lasting quality, PC suitability, depth, replay value, genre importance, and how compelling each game was at that date. The numerical order is an editorial judgment, not a scientific measurement.

How this ranking works

The list combines enduring PC classics with newer recommendations that had accumulated enough evidence to stand beside them by the end of April 2025. A game ranks highly when it does something exceptionally well, remains rewarding beyond its opening hours, and offers a compelling reason to play it on PC. That does not mean every entry suits every player.

#1 Best Overall
SteelSeries QcK XXL Gaming Mouse Pad - Black | XXL Cloth - Peak Tracking and Stability - Esports Mousepad - Never-Slip - Full Desk Coverage
  • ULTRA-DURABLE MICRO-WOVEN CLOTH — With over 10 million sold, the SteelSeries QcK is the does-it-all surface, empowering gamers around the world and champions on the biggest esports stages to play their best.
  • COMPLETE DESKTOP COVERAGE — Encompass your battlestation with a surface you can trust; empower yourself to tackle any challenge with QcK XXL coverage for your keyboard, mouse, and monitor for a clean, sleek gaming setup. 35 inches x 16 inches x .08 inches
  • PINPOINT MOUSE ACCURACY — Tested by the top mouse sensor manufacturer, the high thread count and smooth surface optimizes mouse tracking accuracy for both optical and laser sensors.
  • NEVER-SLIP BASE — The durable, non-slip rubber base is designed to eliminate unwanted movement and provide a solid platform for competitive gaming.
  • LEGENDARY PROFESSIONAL PERFORMANCE — For the past 15 years, esports pros have trusted the QcK as their mousepad of choice, and for good reason: SteelSeries products have won more prize money than any other brand.

Some games are authored adventures with carefully written quests. Others are simulations in which the most memorable moments emerge from interacting systems rather than from a fixed script. A concise puzzle game can therefore deserve a place beside a 100-hour RPG, even though the two deliver very different kinds of value.

Storefront availability, prices, user-review totals, discounts, and system requirements change frequently, so they are deliberately excluded from the ranking. Check the current PC storefront listing and the publisher’s requirements before buying or installing.

The 20 best PC games, ranked

1. Baldur’s Gate 3

Best for: players who want one expansive, reactive RPG that can accommodate many different play styles.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Baldur’s Gate 3 is the best single recommendation on this list because it succeeds simultaneously as a party-based role-playing game, a branching narrative, a tactical combat system, and a social adventure. Its Dungeons & Dragons ruleset gives character creation and party composition real weight, while its story is built to respond to decisions rather than funneling every player toward the same sequence of events.

The appeal is not just the number of choices. It is the way those choices connect to exploration, relationships, combat, dialogue, and the consequences of bringing particular companions together. Players can approach problems through negotiation, clever use of abilities, environmental tactics, or direct confrontation. The game also supports online and LAN co-op, making it one of the strongest choices here for a group that wants a substantial shared campaign.

It is a poor fit only if you want a compact game, real-time action, or a campaign that never asks you to manage an entire party. For everyone else, its combination of breadth, reactivity, and role-playing freedom is unusually difficult to match.

2. Elden Ring

Best for: players who want open-world discovery, demanding combat, build experimentation, and boss encounters.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Elden Ring is the premier open-world action RPG for players who enjoy finding their own way through a hostile world. It rarely explains everything directly, and that restraint is central to its design: landmarks, strange characters, item descriptions, enemy behavior, and distant silhouettes all invite investigation. Exploration is not merely a route between quests; it is the primary reward loop.

Combat gives the discovery a practical purpose. Different weapons, spells, attributes, summons, and equipment combinations support markedly different builds, and difficult encounters encourage experimentation rather than a single prescribed solution. The game also has online co-op and PvP, extending its life beyond the main journey.

This is not the right first choice for someone who needs a clear quest log, forgiving combat, or a densely narrated world. For players willing to learn through failure and observation, however, it offers an exceptional sense of scale and discovery.

3. Disco Elysium

Best for: readers who prioritize writing, investigation, political atmosphere, and role-playing through dialogue.

Disco Elysium is one of the clearest demonstrations that an RPG does not need conventional combat to make character progression and risk feel meaningful. Its primary systems are language, ideology, memory, psychology, and skill checks. The detective at the center of the story is shaped by the abilities and beliefs the player chooses to emphasize, and those choices affect how the world is interpreted.

Investigation is deliberately uncertain. A failed check is often not a simple dead end; it can reveal a different facet of a person, expose a character flaw, or send the story in an unexpected direction. The political writing and worn-down atmosphere give the game a distinctive identity that has kept it near the top of all-time PC recommendations.

Choose it over the games above if you would rather read, question, think, and inhabit a damaged personality than spend most of your time mastering combat. Its slower pace and dense prose are strengths for the right reader and barriers for everyone else.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

4. Hades

Best for: players who want fast action, short repeatable runs, and progression that keeps story and relationships moving forward.

Hades is a model roguelike because every attempt matters even when the player does not reach the end. Runs provide immediate action and build decisions, while permanent upgrades, conversations, character relationships, and story developments make failure feel like part of the structure rather than wasted time.

Its combat is quick without being shallow. Choices made during a run change how attacks behave, and the player gradually learns which combinations suit a preferred approach. The hand-painted presentation, strong audio-visual identity, and lively cast make the repeated-return structure unusually inviting.

Hades is a particularly good PC recommendation for anyone who has limited time but still wants a game with long-term depth. It is more immediate than Disco Elysium, less punishing to begin than Elden Ring, and more narrative-focused than many roguelikes.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

5. Balatro

Best for: players who want an easy-to-understand premise with deep optimization and highly replayable runs.

Rank #2
SteelSeries QcK Medium Gaming Mousepad — Black | Non-Slip Silicone Rubber Base — Peak Tracking and Stability — Optimized for Gaming Sensors — 320 mm x 270 mm
  • LEGENDARY MICRO-WOVEN CLOTH — An optimal surface for mouse precision and performance, the proprietary micro-woven cloth makes the SteelSeries QcK trusted by pros around the world, with over 15 million sold
  • PINPOINT MOUSE ACCURACY — Tested by the top mouse sensor manufacturer, the high thread count and smooth surface optimize mouse tracking accuracy for both optical and laser sensors
  • NON-SLIP BASE — The durable, non-slip rubber base is designed to eliminate unwanted movement and provide a solid platform for competitive gaming
  • PROFESSIONAL PERFORMANCE — For the past 15 years, esports pros have trusted the QcK as their mousepad of choice, and for good reason: SteelSeries products have won more prize money than any other brand
  • QcK SERIES — The QcK Series' legendary micro-woven cloth has made it the world’s best-selling surface. Available in multiple sizes and colors, the QcK is the gold standard for gamers everywhere

Balatro turns poker hands into the foundation for a roguelike deckbuilder. The premise is immediately readable, but the strategic space beneath it is not. Jokers, deck changes, modifiers, and procedural encounters interact to create combinations that can transform an ordinary hand into the centerpiece of an entire run.

The game constantly asks whether a short-term improvement is worth giving up a more powerful long-term plan. A run can hinge on money management, the order in which effects trigger, the risk of chasing a particular build, or the decision to abandon a promising strategy before it becomes too narrow. That clarity makes it approachable; the number of possible interactions makes it difficult to exhaust.

It is a single-player game with no need for a long campaign or elaborate setup, making it one of the strongest choices for short sessions. Players who dislike repetition or numerical optimization may find its central loop less appealing, but for everyone else it is remarkably efficient design.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

6. Stardew Valley

Best for: players who want a welcoming long-term farming and life simulation with a relaxed pace.

Stardew Valley combines farming, relationships, exploration, crafting, light combat, and gradual community development without insisting that one activity dominate the experience. A player can spend a session improving a farm, getting to know villagers, exploring dangerous areas, fishing, gathering materials, or simply organizing the next season.

Its lasting appeal comes from incremental progress. Small improvements accumulate into a more productive farm, stronger relationships, better equipment, and a deeper understanding of the surrounding world. There is enough structure to provide direction, but enough flexibility to let the player decide what a successful day looks like.

This is the most approachable life simulation on the list and one of the safest recommendations for players who do not want constant pressure. It lacks the dramatic urgency of the RPGs above it, but its patience is precisely what makes it so easy to return to for months or years.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

7. Slay the Spire

Best for: strategy players who enjoy making consequential decisions one encounter at a time.

Slay the Spire established much of the modern deckbuilding-roguelike template. Each run is a chain of decisions about cards, routes, relics, upgrades, shops, and risk. The rules are transparent enough that a failed run can usually be examined afterward: perhaps the deck became too large, the route was too ambitious, or a powerful-looking card did not support the rest of the strategy.

The game does not require the time commitment of a traditional campaign. It instead creates depth through repeated problem-solving, with each attempt teaching the player more about enemies, synergies, and when to stop chasing a particular plan. Its restrained presentation keeps attention on decisions rather than spectacle.

Choose it over Balatro if you want a more combat-oriented strategic framework and more explicit route planning. Choose it over a large strategy campaign if you want the satisfaction of difficult decisions without a sprawling time investment.

8. Dwarf Fortress

Best for: simulation specialists who want a world capable of generating its own history and disasters.

Dwarf Fortress is one of the clearest examples of what PC gaming can do with interacting systems. Its fantasy civilization simulation tracks communities, personalities, resources, environments, conflicts, and long-running histories. The result is not a linear story written for every player; it is a framework in which a fortress’s own rise, collapse, and strange incidents become the story.

A fortress can fail because of shortages, poor planning, hostile forces, internal tensions, or a chain of events that no author explicitly scripted. Those failures are often as memorable as successful construction. The simulation’s depth is its greatest strength, but it also creates a substantial learning curve. New players should expect to learn the game in stages rather than understand every system immediately.

This belongs near the top for readers who want unparalleled long-term complexity, not for readers seeking a polished guided campaign. Its rewards arrive through understanding systems and watching them interact.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

9. Factorio

Best for: players who enjoy automation, logistics, optimization, and solving increasingly complicated production problems.

Factorio begins with a straightforward industrial question: how can basic resources be turned into useful products more efficiently? The answer grows from manual work into conveyor belts, machines, trains, power networks, defensive planning, and complex supply chains. Every improvement tends to reveal another bottleneck.

The central loop is unusually focused. Extract resources, automate production, identify what is slowing the factory, redesign the network, and expand the operation. There is little need for scripted spectacle because the factory itself supplies the problems and the satisfaction of solving them.

It is a poor fit for anyone who finds spreadsheets, layout planning, or repeated optimization tiring. For systems-minded players, though, it offers a nearly pure expression of industrial problem-solving and an enormous amount of replayable design space.

10. RimWorld

Best for: players who want a colony simulator where management decisions become emergent personal stories.

RimWorld builds narrative from the interaction of colonists’ traits, relationships, health, ideology, surroundings, and outside threats. A carefully planned settlement can be undone by illness, weather, a social conflict, a raid, or an apparently minor decision that compounds over time. The game does not need to tell the player which moments matter; the colony’s history makes that judgment itself.

Failure is not necessarily a reason to reload. A lost settlement, a friendship that breaks under pressure, or a desperate escape can become the most memorable outcome of a playthrough. That emergent structure gives the game exceptional longevity, especially for players who enjoy managing people as much as managing resources.

Its learning curve and sometimes harsh consequences make it less immediately comfortable than Stardew Valley. In exchange, it offers a much richer simulation of survival, social friction, and unintended consequences.

11. The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt

Best for: players who want an accessible large-scale fantasy RPG built around authored quests and memorable side stories.

The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt remains a benchmark for open-world quest design. Its strongest material is not simply the size of the map, but the quality and variety of the situations placed inside it. Main quests and optional stories frequently give their characters specific motives, competing interests, and consequences that make exploration feel worthwhile.

Geralt’s combat, investigation, equipment, and relationships provide a familiar RPG structure, while the world supports both major adventures and smaller human stories. Its expansion ecosystem also gives players a substantial continuation after the central campaign.

This is a strong alternative to Baldur’s Gate 3 for readers who prefer real-time action and a defined protagonist. It is less reactive at the systemic level, but its authored storytelling remains unusually consistent across a very large adventure.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

12. Red Dead Redemption 2

Best for: players who want a slow, atmospheric open-world western with environmental detail and character-driven storytelling.

Red Dead Redemption 2 is built around observation and immersion rather than constant mechanical novelty. Its landscapes, towns, wildlife, weather, and small interactions create a western world that rewards moving through it at a deliberate pace. The campaign’s character relationships and carefully controlled rhythm are more important to its appeal than a relentless stream of upgrades.

That pacing is also the clearest warning. Players who want an immediately responsive action sandbox may find the game too measured, while those willing to spend time in its world will find a deeply atmospheric adventure. It is one of the strongest PC recommendations for someone who values setting, performance, and character over rapid progression.

13. Cyberpunk 2077

Best for: players who want a cinematic first-person RPG in a dense science-fiction city.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Cyberpunk 2077 offers a compelling mixture of urban exploration, character builds, action, and authored storytelling. Its setting gives the player a crowded, visually distinctive city to move through, while its RPG systems allow different approaches to combat and problem-solving. The first-person perspective also makes conversations and environments feel immediate.

Its position on this list depends heavily on judging the game as it stood after substantial post-launch development and patches, not on launch-era impressions. That distinction matters: performance, systems, and reputation changed over time, and a recommendation should always specify the version and date being discussed rather than treating early coverage as a permanent verdict.

It is a better choice than The Witcher 3 for players who prefer firearms, hacking, and a modern urban setting. It is less suitable for anyone seeking a quiet fantasy journey or a fully systemic sandbox where every situation has countless solutions.

14. Minecraft

Best for: players who want a flexible sandbox rather than a single prescribed campaign.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Minecraft earns its place through breadth and longevity. Survival, construction, exploration, automation, modding, multiplayer, creative play, and user-created experiences can make it feel like several different kinds of PC game depending on how it is approached.

Its apparent simplicity hides a large amount of freedom. One player may treat it as a building tool, another as a survival adventure, and another as a foundation for elaborate automated systems or community servers. There is no requirement to pursue one canonical definition of progress.

That flexibility is both its strength and its limitation. Players who need a tightly authored story may find the open-ended structure directionless. Anyone who wants a game that can grow with a changing group, hobby, or creative project will struggle to find a more adaptable choice.

15. Outer Wilds

Best for: players who want exploration and progression driven by knowledge rather than equipment.

What’s actually slowing this PC down?

Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Outer Wilds creates a compact solar system full of environmental mysteries and uses a time-loop structure to turn curiosity into the main progression system. The player does not gradually unlock a stronger inventory that solves every obstacle. Instead, understanding how locations, events, and clues connect is what makes new areas and possibilities accessible.

That design makes observation unusually valuable. A detail noticed in one place can change the meaning of something encountered elsewhere, and the game trusts the player to assemble the larger picture. Its best discoveries should be experienced directly, so the premise is intentionally described here without explaining its central mysteries.

Choose it when the pleasure of learning is more important than collecting gear or leveling up. Look elsewhere if you want conventional objectives, persistent combat upgrades, or a large checklist of map activities.

16. Portal 2

Best for: players new to PC gaming and anyone who wants a polished puzzle campaign with a strong cooperative mode.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Portal 2 is one of the safest recommendations on the entire list. Its first-person spatial puzzles teach their rules clearly, then steadily combine them into more demanding problems. The difficulty curve is polished without making the game feel like a tutorial stretched into a full campaign.

Humor, character performances, and a concise story keep the puzzle-solving from becoming abstract. A separate cooperative mode provides puzzles designed around communication and coordination rather than simply adding a second player to the solo campaign.

It does not offer the hundreds of hours of open-ended progression found elsewhere here, but that is part of its appeal. It is focused, approachable, historically important, and still immediately playable for someone who wants to learn how PC games can think in three dimensions.

17. Monster Hunter: World

Best for: players who enjoy learning enemy behavior, mastering a specific weapon, and crafting stronger equipment from successful hunts.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Monster Hunter: World is built around a satisfying loop: study a monster, survive the hunt, gather materials, craft equipment, and use that new equipment to take on more demanding targets. Each weapon changes the feel and rhythm of combat, so learning the game also means learning the particular language of the weapon chosen.

The game expects patience. Progress comes less from simply increasing a character level than from recognizing patterns, preparing appropriately, and improving execution. That makes a successful hunt feel earned rather than automatic.

For this April 2025 snapshot, World is the stronger general recommendation over Monster Hunter Wilds because contemporary comparison coverage favored its more complete overall package and found shortcomings in Wilds’ technical and design state at that time. This is a time-specific editorial judgment, not a claim about every later update.

18. Path of Exile 2

Best for: action-RPG players who want deep character customization, loot-driven progression, and complex build design.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Path of Exile 2 is the list’s ambitious early-access recommendation. Its appeal lies in the density of its character systems: skills, equipment, support options, passive choices, and loot all contribute to build planning. Players who enjoy researching interactions and refining a character over time will find an unusually elaborate action RPG.

The early-access label is essential. Content, balance, performance, systems, and monetization can change during development, so this should not be treated as a finished, fixed product in the same way as the long-established games above it. The complexity is also a commitment: players looking for a straightforward dungeon crawler may prefer Hades or Monster Hunter: World.

Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Support on Ko-Fi

19. Blue Prince

Best for: players who enjoy puzzles, strategic resource use, and exploration in a changing environment.

Released on PC on April 10, 2025, Blue Prince was one of the month’s most notable new recommendations. Its design combines shifting-room exploration, puzzle solving, resource management, and strategy, creating a game in which planning and interpretation matter as much as direct execution.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

It is included because it was a distinctive new PC release with the potential to become a sleeper hit, not because it had already accumulated the same long-term record as Portal 2 or Stardew Valley. That distinction is worth keeping in mind when comparing a new discovery with an established classic.

The less you know about its structure before playing, the better. This recommendation focuses on its broad design ingredients without explaining the surprises that make exploration meaningful.

20. Clair Obscur: Expedition 33

Best for: players looking for a new, story-led RPG with turn-based combat and real-time defensive or offensive mechanics.

Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 released on April 24, 2025, making it the newest entry in this ranking. Its combat uses a turn-based foundation modified by real-time mechanics, giving battles a more active rhythm than a purely menu-driven system. The presentation and story-led structure make it an appealing choice for players seeking a fresh RPG rather than another open-world sandbox.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Its placement needs a qualification: by April 30, it was newly available, not an established classic with years of accumulated replay and critical evidence. It is here as a strong late-April recommendation and an important new PC release, while the entries above it have had more time to demonstrate their broader staying power.

That said, later critical coverage placed it among the most highly regarded Windows releases of 2025, reinforcing the judgment that it was more than a merely notable launch.

Quick filters: which game should you choose?

What you want Start with Why
One great all-round RPG Baldur’s Gate 3 Party tactics, branching choices, character relationships, and cooperative play.
Open-world discovery Elden Ring Exploration, build variety, difficult bosses, co-op, and PvP.
The strongest writing Disco Elysium Investigation, ideology, dialogue, and psychology replace conventional combat as the main systems.
Short sessions with long-term depth Balatro or Hades Both make repeated runs meaningful without requiring a long uninterrupted campaign.
A relaxing long-term game Stardew Valley Farming, relationships, exploration, and crafting with a forgiving pace.
Automation and optimization Factorio Production bottlenecks turn into an endlessly expanding logistics puzzle.
Emergent stories RimWorld or Dwarf Fortress Traits, relationships, disasters, and simulation systems create stories rather than following a fixed script.
A cinematic authored adventure The Witcher 3, Red Dead Redemption 2, or Cyberpunk 2077 Choose fantasy quests, a slow western, or a first-person science-fiction RPG.
Discovery without gear progression Outer Wilds Knowledge and observation, rather than stronger equipment, unlock the experience.
A first PC game Portal 2 Clear teaching, approachable puzzles, humor, and a polished cooperative mode.
Co-op with friends Baldur’s Gate 3, Elden Ring, Portal 2, or Minecraft These provide the clearest combination of shared play, multiplayer support, and distinct cooperative experiences.
The newest recommendations Blue Prince or Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 Both arrived in April 2025, so they bring freshness while carrying less long-term evidence than the classics.

Not every important April release made the top 20

April 2025 was unusually significant for PC releases and ports. The Last of Us Part II Remastered arrived on PC on April 3, Blue Prince followed on April 10, and Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 launched on April 24. The latter two made this ranking because they offered distinctive new experiences and were especially notable at the end of the snapshot period.

The Last of Us Part II Remastered is a reasonable alternative for players who want a heavily authored, cinematic action game, but it is not ranked above the 20 selections here. The list gives extra weight to genre-defining design, replayability, accumulated evidence, or a particularly strong PC-specific recommendation. A notable new port can be worth playing without being the best overall choice for every PC player.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

The same principle explains why the ranking includes games from many different years. A release date in April is not, by itself, a better qualification than a decade of influence or replay value.

Before installing a demanding or large PC game

Game problems are not always game problems. Before buying maintenance software or changing drivers, work through the ordinary Windows checks first:

  1. Open Settings > System > Storage and remove unnecessary temporary files or unused applications. Keep enough free space for the game and its updates according to the current storefront listing.
  2. Run Settings > Windows Update and install pending updates, restarting if Windows requests it.
  3. If the problem involves a controller, audio device, or display, check Settings > System > Sound, Settings > Bluetooth & devices, and the relevant device settings before reinstalling anything.
  4. For graphics issues, use the current support software and drivers from the relevant GPU manufacturer, and record the driver version before changing it. This makes it easier to reverse the change if the problem begins afterward.
  5. Close unnecessary background applications and test the game again. Do not assume that a cleanup utility or driver update will increase frame rates or solve every performance problem.

A simple co-op setup

For cooperative games such as Baldur’s Gate 3, Elden Ring, Portal 2, and Minecraft, clear voice communication can matter as much as the game itself. A PC gaming headset for co-op with a boom microphone and, where appropriate, low-latency wireless connectivity can simplify voice chat and keep game audio separate from the microphone. This is a general accessory category, not a model-specific recommendation or a product tested by this article; check platform compatibility, comfort, microphone quality, and return terms before buying.

How to interpret the ranking

The top of the list is not a claim that Dwarf Fortress is less important than Portal 2, or that a player who prefers Balatro has chosen incorrectly by skipping a 100-hour RPG. It reflects a broad editorial balance. Baldur’s Gate 3 serves more kinds of RPG players than most alternatives; Elden Ring represents a rare synthesis of open-world exploration and demanding action; and Disco Elysium demonstrates how far PC role-playing can go when dialogue and psychology become the primary mechanics.

After that, personal taste becomes increasingly decisive. A simulation player may reasonably place Dwarf Fortress or Factorio first. Someone who wants atmosphere may choose Red Dead Redemption 2. A puzzle enthusiast may need only Portal 2 and Outer Wilds. The most useful way to use this list is to identify the kind of experience you want next, then choose the highest-ranked game that actually delivers it.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is this a list of games released in April 2025?

No. It is a snapshot of the best PC games a reader could play by April 30, 2025. Only Blue Prince and Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 are included as newly released April recommendations; the rest are established games selected for quality, influence, replay value, or PC suitability.

What is the best PC game for most players?

Baldur’s Gate 3 is the broadest recommendation because it combines a reactive story, party-based role-playing, tactical combat, meaningful choices, and online or LAN co-op. Players who dislike turn-based RPG combat or long campaigns may prefer Hades, Portal 2, or Stardew Valley.

Which game on the list is best for short sessions?

Balatro and Hades are the clearest choices. Both are organized around repeatable runs, so progress and learning can fit into shorter sessions while still offering substantial long-term depth.

Is Path of Exile 2 a finished game?

It was an early-access action RPG in this April 30, 2025 snapshot. Its content, balance, performance, systems, and monetization can change, so it should be approached as an evolving recommendation rather than a finished, fixed release.

Why is Monster Hunter: World ranked above Monster Hunter Wilds here?

For the April 2025 snapshot, contemporary comparison coverage favored World’s more complete overall package and identified technical and design shortcomings in Wilds at that time. This is a dated editorial judgment and should not be read as a permanent assessment of every later update.

Why are prices, review percentages, and system requirements missing?

Those details change by storefront, region, edition, update, and date. They should be checked on the current PC storefront or publisher support page before purchase or installation rather than treated as permanent facts in an April 2025 snapshot.

The Bottom Line

Bottom line: choose Baldur’s Gate 3 for the strongest all-round recommendation, Elden Ring for discovery and combat, Disco Elysium for writing, Hades or Balatro for compact replayable sessions, and Factorio, RimWorld, or Dwarf Fortress for systems-driven depth. The best game here is the one whose central activity matches what you want to do with your next free hour.
