The 25 Best PS4 Games to Play Right Now (2026)

From Bloodborne and God of War to Persona 5 Royal, Resident Evil, Tetris Effect, and Dreams, these are the 25 PS4 games still worth playing in 2026.

The best PS4 game for most players is God of War, but the platform’s essential library is far broader than one recommendation. In 2026, PS4 is still home to Bloodborne’s demanding gothic combat, Red Dead Redemption 2’s vast western, Persona 5 Royal’s enormous role-playing systems, Resident Evil’s survival horror, Tetris Effect’s short puzzle sessions, and creator platforms such as Dreams. The 25 games below prioritize experiences that remain distinctive and worth playing now—not simply games that were impressive when the console launched.

If you prefer physical media, compare physical PS4 games by region, edition, condition, and stock. Digital availability, subscription catalogs, prices, and online features can change, so verify the current listing before buying.

How this list works: This is an editorial ranking, not a Metacritic average. The order weighs lasting quality, distinctive design, current playability on PS4, genre variety, and how easy each game is to recommend in 2026. Several entries are also available elsewhere, so “best PS4 games” does not mean “PS4 exclusives.”

Before buying, check the individual PlayStation Store listing or your local retailer. Digital listings, PlayStation Plus catalogs, physical stock, editions, prices, and online features can vary by region and date. The U.S. PlayStation Store still maintains a PS4 catalog, but that does not mean every game below is currently included with a subscription.

1. Bloodborne

Best for: Players who want demanding action RPG combat, gothic horror, and an interconnected world that rewards curiosity.

Bloodborne remains one of the clearest examples of a game whose atmosphere and mechanics reinforce each other. Its decaying city of Yharnam is oppressive, mysterious, and full of routes that gradually reveal how its spaces connect. Combat is fast and aggressive: success depends on reading enemies, managing risk, and often attacking rather than waiting passively for an opening.

The main adventure is single-player, with optional online systems and Chalice Dungeons adding extra challenges and experimentation. It is not the safest recommendation for someone new to difficult games, but it is arguably the PS4’s most distinctive action RPG. Bloodborne was released for PS4 on March 24, 2015, and its appeal has not depended on being technically new.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Practical note: Difficult and combat-focused. Choose it over a more forgiving open-world RPG if learning through failure is part of the appeal.

2. God of War

Best for: Cinematic action, character-driven storytelling, exploration, and a more deliberate combat system.

God of War is the most broadly suitable starting point on this list. It works as a continuation of Kratos’s story, but it also introduces a new setting, relationship, and tone clearly enough for players unfamiliar with the older games. The result is a polished single-player adventure built around exploration, environmental puzzles, memorable encounters, and weighty axe-and-shield combat.

It is more measured than the earlier God of War titles, with enemies that reward positioning, timing, and weapon upgrades rather than button-mashing. The story gives the large-scale action a personal center, while optional areas and side activities provide enough room for players who want more than the main path.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Practical note: Accessible compared with Bloodborne or Sekiro, but still substantial. A strong first recommendation for someone who wants one defining PS4 experience.

3. Red Dead Redemption 2

Best for: A huge, slow-burn open-world western with exceptional environmental detail and exploration.

Red Dead Redemption 2 asks the player to live in its world rather than simply move through a sequence of objectives. Arthur Morgan’s story unfolds through long stretches of travel, camp life, character conversations, optional encounters, hunting, exploration, and carefully staged missions. Its deliberate pace is a feature, not a flaw—but it requires patience.

The PS4 release includes the full Story Mode and access to Red Dead Online. The story is the strongest reason to play it now, while the online component and its available features should be checked before purchase because server-dependent functionality and content can change. Rockstar Games released it for PS4 on October 26, 2018.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Practical note: Primarily a single-player recommendation and one of the longest games here. Avoid it if you want compact missions or immediate arcade-style action.

4. The Last of Us Remastered

Best for: Tightly directed survival action, stealth, and emotionally heavy storytelling.

The Last of Us Remastered is the definitive PS4 version of the original story. It combines stealth, scavenging, resource management, and third-person combat with a focused journey through a post-pandemic United States. Encounters often allow several approaches, but the game remains carefully directed rather than becoming a broad open-world sandbox.

It is important to distinguish this release from The Last of Us Part II, which appears later on this list, and from the newer The Last of Us Part I remake made for later hardware. If you want the original game in its PS4 form, this is the relevant version.

Practical note: Single-player, linear, and relatively easy to sample in sections, but its violence, grief, and other mature themes make the content information worth checking first.

5. Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End

Best for: Cinematic set pieces, treasure hunting, traversal, and accessible third-person shooting.

Uncharted 4 is a polished blockbuster adventure that prioritizes momentum and presentation. Nathan Drake’s campaign moves between climbing, exploration, driving, shooting, puzzle-solving, and spectacular action sequences without allowing any one system to overwhelm the experience. The result is approachable even for players who do not usually play shooters.

Its single-player campaign is more focused and manageable than the enormous RPGs on this list. That makes it particularly good for players who want a highly produced adventure with a clear finish line rather than a game that demands dozens of hours of side content.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Practical note: Primarily single-player, medium-length, and generally approachable. It is a safer recommendation than most entries here for someone seeking a traditional action-adventure.

6. Persona 5 Royal

Best for: Players who want a very long Japanese RPG combining turn-based combat, social simulation, and relationship-driven storytelling.

Persona 5 Royal alternates between life in modern Tokyo and supernatural dungeon adventures. Time management matters: relationships, school life, activities, and exploration all compete for the same in-game schedule. Those social systems are not separate from the RPG; they shape the abilities, resources, and personal story available to the protagonist.

Royal is the expanded version, adding characters, confidants, locations, story material, and other refinements. The PlayStation release is available on both PS4 and PS5, with the PS4 version released on March 31, 2020. It is stylish, unusually confident, and rewarding for players willing to settle into its rhythm.

Practical note: One of the longest games here and entirely single-player. Choose it for systems and character development, not for a quick campaign.

7. Marvel’s Spider-Man

Best for: Fluid traversal, superhero power fantasy, accessible combat, and a focused Peter Parker story.

The central pleasure of Marvel’s Spider-Man is movement. Web-swinging across Manhattan feels good enough that traveling between objectives is often its own reward. Combat builds on that mobility with launches, aerial attacks, gadgets, and environmental interactions, giving Peter a flexible toolkit without requiring the precision of a Soulslike.

The open world contains side activities and collectibles, but the game is at its best when the movement system connects the story, combat, and exploration. It offers a more readable and immediately enjoyable open-world structure than many larger RPGs.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Practical note: Single-player and comparatively accessible. A strong choice for shorter play sessions, though completing everything takes considerably longer than finishing the main story.

8. Horizon Zero Dawn: Complete Edition

Best for: Open-world exploration, machine-hunting combat, science-fiction worldbuilding, and clear progression.

Horizon Zero Dawn gives the familiar open-world action RPG format a memorable identity through its machines. Hunting them is not simply a matter of reducing a health bar: players can study behavior, target components, exploit weaknesses, and use traps or different ammunition types. The combat loop is more readable than a Soulslike while still rewarding preparation and observation.

Aloy’s investigation of the world’s history provides a strong science-fiction hook, and the progression system makes it easy to understand how exploration improves the character. The Complete Edition is the version to seek when available if you want the most comprehensive PS4 package.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Practical note: Single-player and long-form, but approachable. Best for players who want a large adventure without committing to the especially dense quest structure of The Witcher 3.

9. The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt – Complete Edition

Best for: Enormous role-playing depth, morally complicated quests, and meaningful side stories.

The Witcher 3 treats side quests as more than errands. Many develop their own characters, consequences, and difficult decisions, making exploration feel worthwhile even when it takes Geralt away from the central plot. The world is huge, but its strongest quality is not sheer size: it is the density of stories embedded in villages, roads, ruins, and battlefields.

The Complete Edition is the preferred PS4 version when available because it packages the major expansions with the base adventure. Its combat is less mechanically exacting than Bloodborne or Sekiro, but preparation, signs, equipment, and enemy knowledge still matter.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Practical note: Single-player and exceptionally long. Mature subject matter and a large amount of reading and quest dialogue make it better suited to unhurried players.

10. Monster Hunter: World

Best for: Learning complex weapon systems, preparing for hunts, crafting gear, and improving through repetition.

Monster Hunter: World is built around a satisfying cycle: track a monster, understand its behavior, choose a weapon and equipment setup, survive the encounter, then use the rewards to prepare for a more difficult hunt. Each weapon changes the game’s rhythm, so the early learning curve is part of the long-term appeal rather than an obstacle to rush past.

It supports solo play and cooperative hunting, but cooperation is not required to appreciate its depth. The world is beautiful and more inviting than earlier entries in the series, yet the combat remains demanding enough to reward practice.

Practical note: A long-term game rather than a quick campaign. Choose it if experimenting with equipment and repeating encounters sounds satisfying.

11. Grand Theft Auto V

Best for: A flexible open-world crime sandbox with driving, shooting, mission variety, and optional activities.

Grand Theft Auto V remains one of the most adaptable games on PS4. Its single-player campaign uses three protagonists to create different viewpoints and mission styles, while Los Santos provides a large space for driving, exploration, and distractions between story missions.

The PS4 release also connects to the GTA Online era of features, but online functionality and available content are subject to change. Treat the single-player campaign as the stable recommendation and verify the current state of online services before buying specifically for multiplayer.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Practical note: Good for players who want to dip in and out. It is a mature game with violence, crime, and other content that may not suit every audience.

12. The Last of Us Part II

Best for: A technically ambitious, darker narrative action game with stealth, scavenging, and more open combat spaces.

The Last of Us Part II expands the original’s stealth and survival framework. Encounters provide more room to move, hide, flank, and improvise, while improved enemy behavior and environmental detail make each confrontation feel more dangerous. Scavenging and weapon upgrades remain important, but the game gives combat spaces greater tactical flexibility.

Its story is deliberately confrontational and has been divisive among players. That does not make it an unworthy recommendation; it makes the expectation important. This is a significant PS4 release for players interested in ambitious narrative design, not an uncomplicated universal pick.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Practical note: Single-player and fairly long, with intense violence and difficult themes. Play the first game first if you want the story’s emotional context.

13. Resident Evil 2

Best for: Survival horror, exploration, resource management, puzzles, and replayable scenario design.

Resident Evil 2 modernizes the classic survival-horror structure without removing its pressure. The police station and surrounding locations are spaces to understand gradually, with locked routes, scarce resources, puzzles, and enemies that make backtracking risky. Modern controls and presentation make it approachable, but the underlying game still asks players to conserve ammunition and decide when fighting is worth the cost.

Multiple scenarios and character perspectives encourage replaying the campaign. It is an especially good choice for someone who wants contemporary production values alongside the tension and problem-solving associated with classic survival horror.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Practical note: Single-player, tense, and replayable. Choose it for third-person horror and resource management rather than constant action.

14. Resident Evil 7: Biohazard

Best for: First-person survival horror, claustrophobic exploration, and an intimate horror experience.

Resident Evil 7 offers a different perspective and tone from Resident Evil 2. Its first-person viewpoint makes confined rooms and close encounters feel especially personal, while the setting emphasizes isolation and discovery. Exploration, item management, puzzles, and carefully controlled combat are more important than firepower.

The two Resident Evil recommendations complement each other rather than duplicate one another. Resident Evil 2 is a more expansive third-person tour through a familiar survival-horror framework; Resident Evil 7 is more intimate, enclosed, and committed to first-person dread.

Practical note: Single-player and relatively focused. It is a strong choice for horror fans who prefer atmosphere and tension over open combat arenas.

15. Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice

Best for: Precise swordplay, parrying, vertical exploration, and a demanding but learnable combat rhythm.

Sekiro is not simply another Bloodborne-style action RPG. Its central skill is posture: attacks, deflections, and pressure can break an opponent’s stance, creating an opening for a decisive finish. The game rewards aggressive defense and precise timing rather than cautious attacks followed by retreats.

Grappling and vertical movement add a different dimension to exploration, while the relatively focused character system keeps attention on mastering combat. Players who approach it like Dark Souls may struggle until they learn to meet attacks with the blade instead of constantly dodging away.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Practical note: Single-player and very demanding. Pick Bloodborne for build variety and gothic exploration; pick Sekiro for a purer test of timing and sword technique.

16. Death Stranding

Best for: Contemplative exploration, logistics, atmosphere, and unusual asynchronous cooperation.

Death Stranding turns delivery and traversal into the main event. Planning routes, balancing cargo, dealing with terrain, and gradually improving the tools available for movement create a rhythm unlike conventional action games. Other players can indirectly help through shared structures and resources, but the experience remains centered on an individual journey.

Its story and presentation are intentionally strange, and the opening hours can be slow while the systems are introduced. That makes it a poor recommendation for someone seeking constant combat, but an excellent one for a curious player who enjoys atmosphere, landscape, and games willing to make logistics meaningful.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Practical note: Long and deliberately paced. Online-supported asynchronous features may depend on current service conditions, so verify them if they are central to your interest.

17. Control: Ultimate Edition

Best for: Supernatural action, telekinetic combat, environmental storytelling, and a strange, shifting setting.

Rank #4
DualShock 4 Wireless Controller for PlayStation 4 - Jet Black
  • The feel, shape, and sensitivity of the dual analog sticks and trigger buttons have been improved to provide a greater sense of control, no matter what you play.Motion sensors - Rock and roll as a highly sensitive built-in accelerometer and gyroscope detect the motion, tilt and rotation of your DUALSHOCK 4 wireless controllerDualShock 4 Wireless Controller PS4 and PC compatible. • The new multi touch and clickable touch pad on the face of the DualShock 4 Wireless Controller opens up worlds of new gameplay possibilities for both newcomers and veteran gamers
  • The DualShock 4 Wireless Controller features a built in speaker and stereo headset jack, putting several new audio options in the player's hands
  • The Dualshock 4 wireless controller can be easily recharged by plugging it into your PlayStation 4 system, even when in rest mode, or with any standard charger using a USB cable (type A to micro B sold separately)

Control places Jesse Faden inside a government building transformed by an unexplained paranormal force. The building itself is a major character: rooms shift, documents hint at a larger mythology, and exploration frequently rewards players who investigate instead of following the fastest route.

Combat becomes increasingly expressive as Jesse combines firearms with telekinesis, movement abilities, and the environment. The Ultimate Edition is the version to consider when the specific PS4 listing confirms that it is the intended package; edition names and upgrade paths can differ by platform and storefront, so do not assume that every listing offers the same entitlement.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Practical note: Single-player and medium-to-long. A good fit for players who want action with a strong supernatural mystery rather than a conventional fantasy setting.

18. NieR:Automata

Best for: Action RPG combat, philosophical science fiction, memorable music, and a story that changes meaning across multiple routes.

NieR:Automata combines stylish real-time combat with a science-fiction story about androids, machines, identity, and purpose. Its music, tone, and visual ideas give it a distinctive personality, but its structure is the most important expectation to set: reaching the first ending is not the whole experience.

Continue beyond the initial ending to see the additional routes and perspectives that complete and recontextualize the story. The game’s willingness to alter its meaning through repetition is unusual, making it a particularly strong recommendation for players who enjoy narrative experimentation.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Practical note: Single-player. The combat is approachable at a basic level, while the route structure asks for more commitment than a conventional one-and-done campaign.

19. Divinity: Original Sin 2 – Definitive Edition

Best for: Turn-based tactical combat, party customization, systemic problem-solving, and reactive role-playing.

Divinity: Original Sin 2 is the strongest counterweight here to the action-heavy games. Battles unfold turn by turn, but the systems are unusually flexible: surfaces, elemental effects, positioning, skills, equipment, and party composition can interact in surprising ways. Outside combat, quests often support multiple solutions, and experimentation is more valuable than following a single prescribed route.

It supports solo play and cooperative play, but either way it rewards patience. Players who want to understand every system will find enormous depth; players who dislike reading, planning, or revisiting decisions may find the pace demanding.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Practical note: Very long and best for patient players. Choose it when you want role-playing freedom and tactical decisions rather than reflex-based combat.

20. Shadow of the Colossus

Best for: Atmospheric boss encounters, minimalist storytelling, scale, and a focused adventure.

Shadow of the Colossus is the PS4 remake of the classic Team Ico design. Its structure is unusually clean: travel through a vast, quiet landscape, locate a colossus, study how to climb it, and solve the encounter as a giant environmental puzzle. The sense of scale remains the central attraction.

The minimalist story leaves room for interpretation rather than explaining every detail. Unlike the biggest open-world games on this list, it can be completed in a more focused amount of time, making it an excellent choice when you want something memorable without starting a hundred-hour RPG.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Practical note: Single-player and easy to sample in a few sessions. Best for atmosphere and boss design, not for loot, side quests, or constant combat.

21. Ratchet & Clank

Best for: Colorful third-person action, inventive weapons, platforming, and a lighter tone.

Ratchet & Clank delivers compact, visually polished action built around an imaginative arsenal. Weapons are not merely stronger versions of one another; they encourage different ways to control crowds and create spectacular encounters. Platforming, exploration, humor, and upgrades keep the campaign moving without the heaviness found in many other first-party PS4 games.

It is a useful recommendation for players who want something bright and approachable, including families who are comfortable checking the game’s regional age guidance. The campaign is more compact than the open-world adventures above, so it does not demand the same long-term commitment.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Practical note: Single-player and relatively easy to sample. Choose it for polished fun and inventive weapons rather than serious drama or complex RPG systems.

22. Tetris Effect

Best for: Short sessions, music-driven play, relaxation, and increasingly intense puzzle challenges.

Tetris Effect demonstrates that the PS4 library is not defined only by cinematic adventures and massive role-playing games. The familiar falling-block formula is connected to music, lighting, animation, and changing visual environments, making each level feel more like a responsive audiovisual performance than a static puzzle screen.

Practical note: The easiest game on this list to sample for a few minutes. An ideal choice when you want a game that fits around your schedule rather than taking it over.

23. Yakuza 0

Best for: Story-rich action, dense urban exploration, minigames, and side quests with a distinctive sense of humor.

Yakuza 0 is a strong entry point into the Yakuza series. Its central crime drama is serious and character-focused, but the surrounding cities are packed with eccentric side stories, arcades, diversions, and minigames. That contrast is not a distraction from the game’s identity; it is the reason the world feels so lively.

Combat is straightforward to begin with and grows through multiple fighting styles and upgrades. The main story supplies melodrama and momentum, while optional content offers the strange, funny, and unexpectedly heartfelt moments that define the series.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Practical note: Single-player and long, with considerable optional content. Choose it if you enjoy a strong story but also want a city full of distractions.

24. Dreams

Best for: Creating, remixing, and discovering user-made games, music, animation, and interactive experiments.

Dreams is less a conventional game than a creative platform. Players can make their own scenes and experiences, remix other creations, or simply browse what the community has built. Its breadth is the attraction: one session might involve a small platformer, another a short film, a music track, or an experiment that would not fit neatly into a standard genre.

The important qualification is that its value depends heavily on the breadth, quality, and discoverability of community creations available when you play. It is a recommendation for people who enjoy exploration and making things, not for anyone expecting a finite campaign designed entirely by one studio.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Practical note: Content length and quality vary. Community-dependent features should be checked for current availability before purchase.

25. LittleBigPlanet 3

Best for: Local creativity, platforming, and user-created levels.

LittleBigPlanet 3 remains appealing for its playful creation tools and platforming identity. Building, sharing, and playing custom levels can extend the experience well beyond the included content, while local creativity gives it a different appeal from the single-player cinematic games dominating the top half of this list.

However, online services and community content are volatile facts for an older platform. Do not assume that every historical feature, server, or user-made level is available today. Verify the current service status and, if possible, focus your purchase decision on the local and offline content you can actually use.

How to choose the right PS4 game

  • For demanding combat: Start with Bloodborne if you want build-based action RPG systems, or Sekiro if you want precise parries and posture breaks.
  • For a broadly accessible first pick: Choose God of War, Marvel’s Spider-Man, or Uncharted 4.
  • For open-world exploration: Red Dead Redemption 2 is the slow, immersive choice; Horizon Zero Dawn emphasizes readable machine-hunting; The Witcher 3 offers the deepest quest-driven role-playing.
  • For deep RPG systems: Pick Persona 5 Royal for social simulation and turn-based combat, or Divinity: Original Sin 2 for tactical freedom and systemic problem-solving.
  • For horror: Choose Resident Evil 2 for third-person survival-horror structure or Resident Evil 7 for first-person claustrophobia.
  • For short sessions: Tetris Effect is the obvious choice; Shadow of the Colossus and Ratchet & Clank are better if you want a complete focused adventure.
  • For unusual experiences: Try Death Stranding for contemplative logistics, NieR:Automata for route-based storytelling, or Dreams for community-made creations.

Buying and availability notes for 2026

The PS4 is an older generation, but its library remains unusually broad. Physical discs, digital purchases, subscription access, used copies, and regional editions do not have identical availability. A game being listed in a store catalog also does not guarantee that its price or subscription status will remain unchanged.

If you buy digitally, confirm that the listing is for the PS4 version rather than a PS5-only edition or an upgrade entitlement. If you buy a disc, check the region, edition name, included expansions, and whether the product is new, used, or refurbished. The Complete Editions of Horizon Zero Dawn, The Witcher 3, and Divinity: Original Sin 2 are particularly worth identifying correctly because their bundled content is part of the recommendation.

Online-dependent games need an extra check. Grand Theft Auto V, Red Dead Redemption 2, Monster Hunter: World, Death Stranding, Dreams, and LittleBigPlanet 3 do not all depend on online play in the same way, but their network features, community content, or multiplayer options can change. Verify the current service status if that feature is the reason you are buying.

Finally, check the regional age rating and content information before purchasing. This list includes graphic violence, horror, crime, grief, disturbing imagery, and other mature themes. The official product listing for each game is the best place to confirm the rating and any region-specific content descriptors.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the best PS4 game for most players?

For most players, God of War is the best starting point. It combines cinematic storytelling, exploration, accessible but satisfying combat, and a clear single-player campaign. Choose Bloodborne instead if you specifically want a much harder action RPG, or Red Dead Redemption 2 if you want a slower open-world experience.

Are all of these PS4 exclusives?

No. The list includes first-party PS4 releases, third-party games, and games also available on other platforms. It is a curated list of games that remain compelling to play on PS4, not a list of PS4 exclusives.

Are these games currently included with PlayStation Plus?

Do not assume so. PlayStation Plus availability changes by region, subscription tier, and date. Check the current regional PlayStation Store or PlayStation Plus catalog before treating subscription access as part of a buying decision.

Which games on the list are easiest to finish in a short amount of time?

Try Tetris Effect for short, repeatable sessions; Shadow of the Colossus for a focused adventure; Ratchet & Clank for compact action; or Uncharted 4 for a polished campaign with a clear finish line. The large RPGs and open-world games require substantially more time.

Which PS4 game should I play if I dislike extremely difficult combat?

Choose God of War, Marvel’s Spider-Man, or Uncharted 4 for more approachable action. Horizon Zero Dawn is also a good option if you want a large world with a clearer combat loop. Bloodborne and Sekiro are specifically designed around a demanding learning curve.

The Bottom Line

Bottom line: The best PS4 game depends on the experience you want. Choose God of War for the safest all-purpose recommendation, Bloodborne or Sekiro for demanding combat, Persona 5 Royal or Divinity: Original Sin 2 for deep RPG systems, Red Dead Redemption 2 or Horizon Zero Dawn for open-world exploration, Resident Evil 2 or Resident Evil 7 for horror, Tetris Effect for short sessions, and Dreams for creation and discovery. In 2026, the PS4’s strongest advantage is not one defining genre but the range of excellent choices still worth playing.
