The 5 Best Gaming Keyboards in 2026: Hall Effect, Compact, and Wireless Picks

Short answer: PC Gamer’s August 6, 2026 guide names the Wooting 80HE the best overall gaming keyboard, while its other category winners cover budget magnetic switches, 60% desks, and 75% layouts. TechRadar’s Corsair K100 Air Wireless is the premium wireless choice. These are category picks rather than five interchangeable winners; choose according to switch technology, layout, connectivity, and budget.

The five picks at a glance

The shortlist combines PC Gamer’s category winners (guide updated August 6, 2026) with TechRadar’s premium wireless recommendation. The specifications below are the publications’ listed specifications, not measurements from a new comparative test.

How to choose among these keyboards

Decide whether Hall effect features matter to you

Hall effect keyboards sense the position of a magnetic switch rather than relying only on a conventional mechanical contact. PC Gamer’s explanation highlights three capabilities that can result: adjustable actuation, rapid trigger, and multiple actions assigned to one key. Adjustable actuation lets you choose how far a key travels before it registers. Rapid trigger can reset a key as soon as it moves upward, rather than waiting for a fixed reset point. Multiple actions per key can assign different inputs to different points in a key’s travel.

Those functions are useful only when you configure and use them. They are not a guaranteed competitive advantage, and the sources do not establish a universal latency improvement or tournament win rate. If you mostly type, play slower-paced games, or prefer a fixed switch response, a conventional mechanical or membrane board may feel more natural and cost less.

Match the layout to your desk and shortcuts

A 60% board prioritizes the main letter, number, and modifier keys. It saves the most desk space, but keys that larger boards place in dedicated positions—such as arrows, the function row, and navigation controls—are generally reached through layers or shortcuts. A 68% layout adds a small navigation cluster while remaining compact.

A 75% layout keeps a function row and arrow keys in a condensed footprint. Razer’s official layout explanation describes 75% as retaining those rows in a more compact format than TKL. A TKL board keeps the full function row and navigation area while removing the number pad. A full-size board adds the number pad and is the widest option in this shortlist’s layout discussion.

Separate wireless convenience from wireless assumptions

Wireless can mean a proprietary 2.4 GHz connection, Bluetooth, or both, while a board can also support a wired USB mode. The cited material confirms a wireless connection for the Corsair K100 Air Wireless, but does not establish a complete radio-mode list for every keyboard here. Check the exact product page and included receiver before buying; a model name alone is not proof of Bluetooth, 2.4 GHz, or simultaneous-device support.

Set a budget only after checking current listings

PC Gamer positions the NS68 as its budget gaming keyboard and the K100 Air Wireless as a premium alternative appears in TechRadar’s guide. Neither source provides a directly comparable, current price table for all five recommendations. Prices, stock, regional taxes, and product revisions change, so verify the exact model and local listing at the time of purchase instead of treating category labels as fixed price bands.

1. Wooting 80HE: best overall Hall effect option

Why PC Gamer chose it

PC Gamer’s guide, updated August 6, 2026, names the Wooting 80HE its best gaming keyboard. The board uses Wooting Lekker60 V2 switches in a TKL layout, with per-key RGB lighting and PBT double-shot keycaps. Its Hall effect controls are the reason it occupies the overall slot: Wootility software provides rapid trigger, adjustable actuation, and the ability to assign multiple actions to a key.

That combination suits players who want to tune the point at which movement, strafing, or another input registers. The TKL footprint also leaves room for a mouse without giving up the dedicated function row and navigation cluster that compact 60% boards normally relocate to layers.

Trade-offs to understand

PC Gamer reports chassis flex and the lack of adjustable feet as drawbacks. Those are review findings from that publication, not observations from a new hands-on test here. If typing angle is important to you, confirm that the fixed case geometry works with your desk and preferred wrist position before ordering.

The 80HE is most compelling when you will actually use adjustable actuation or rapid trigger. If you need a number pad, prefer a softer membrane feel, or do not plan to configure Hall effect functions, its extra features may not justify choosing a TKL magnetic board over a simpler layout.

2. Gamakay x NaughShark NS68: best budget magnetic option

What you get

PC Gamer labels the Gamakay x NaughShark NS68 its best budget gaming keyboard. It combines Outemu Peach Magnetic switches with a 68% layout, per-key RGB lighting, and PBT double-shot keycaps. The category placement gives shoppers a lower-cost entry point into magnetic-switch features without moving to a full-size or TKL footprint.

The 68% arrangement is a practical middle ground for a small desk: it is more compact than TKL while retaining more immediately accessible keys than a typical 60% design. You should still inspect the exact key arrangement and layer shortcuts, because 68% boards vary in how they place navigation keys.

Check price and availability before committing

The budget label is PC Gamer’s relative assessment, not a permanent price guarantee. The cited material does not establish a current price or stock level for your region. Confirm the seller, switch version, keycap material, warranty terms, and return policy, especially if a listing uses a shortened product name that could refer to a revision.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Choose the NS68 when you want a compact magnetic board and the lowest-cost category position in this shortlist. Choose a larger board instead if you rely on a dedicated function row, navigation cluster, or number pad every day.

3. Wooting 60HE v2: best compact 60% option

Why the 60% format is the point

PC Gamer calls the Wooting 60HE v2 the best 60% gaming keyboard. It uses Lekker Tikken switches, per-key RGB, and PBT keycaps, with ABS keycaps also available. The small footprint is the main reason to select it: it leaves maximum room for broad mouse movements and fits desks where a TKL or 75% board would crowd the play area.

A 60% keyboard does not necessarily remove programmable functions; many functions can be assigned to layers. The trade-off is access. Arrows, the function row, and navigation commands that are dedicated on larger layouts may require holding a modifier or changing layers. If you use those keys constantly for editing, spreadsheets, or games with many bindings, test the layer workflow before making a compact board your only keyboard.

Switch and keycap considerations

The Lekker Tikken switch specification identifies this as another Hall effect option, so the same adjustable-actuation and rapid-trigger questions apply as with the 80HE. PBT is available for the keycaps, while ABS is also listed as an option; keycap material affects surface texture and long-term shine, but the cited guide does not provide a durability test comparing the two materials.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

The 60HE v2 is the focused choice for a player who values desk space and magnetic-switch configuration more than dedicated navigation keys. It is not the right default for someone who wants a traditional, immediately visible function row.

4. Keychron K2 HE: best 75% alternative

What distinguishes it

PC Gamer names the Keychron K2 HE its best 75% gaming keyboard. Its listed hardware includes Gateron HE Double Rail switches and double-shot PBT keycaps. The guide praises its responsiveness and battery life, making it the shortlist’s category choice for shoppers who want a compact layout without dropping the function row and arrow keys.

For many desks, 75% is the compromise that removes the least-used spacing while preserving the controls people reach for most. Razer’s official explanation of the format likewise describes a 75% board as keeping the function row and arrow keys in a tighter footprint than TKL. The K2 HE therefore suits players who find 60% layers inconvenient but do not need a number pad.

Lighting and switch limitations

PC Gamer notes that the lighting effects are basic and that compatible switch choices are limited. Those constraints matter if you plan to build a large switch collection or want elaborate lighting scenes. Verify the exact compatibility list before buying replacement switches; the presence of Hall effect hardware does not mean every magnetic switch on the market will work.

Select the K2 HE when battery life, a 75% footprint, and the included Gateron HE Double Rail switches are more important than extensive lighting controls or a broad swap ecosystem.

5. Corsair K100 Air Wireless: premium wireless alternative

Features TechRadar highlights

TechRadar describes the Corsair K100 Air Wireless as a premium gaming keyboard with a wireless connection, programmable keys, and an 8,000 Hz polling rate. TechRadar’s performance and typing comments are that publication’s review judgments. The high polling figure is a product specification; it should not be read as proof that every player will perceive a meaningful in-game advantage.

Programmable keys can be valuable for games with many commands, productivity shortcuts, or macros, while wireless operation reduces cable clutter. The premium positioning means you should compare its current regional price with wired and magnetic alternatives rather than assuming the polling rate alone justifies the difference.

Who should buy it

The K100 Air Wireless is the fit for someone who prioritizes a high-end wireless setup and programmable controls over the compact magnetic layouts in the other four picks. Confirm the included receiver, charging method, battery claims, key-switch specification, and supported connection modes on the exact listing, because the cited summary does not establish all of those details.

When a tournament-focused board changes the shortlist

If your priority is competitive play rather than premium wireless convenience, TechRadar also discusses the SteelSeries Apex Pro TKL (2023). The model it covers offers adjustable actuation from 0.2 mm to 3.8 mm and dual actuation. TechRadar’s page concerns the 2023 version, while later product generations exist, so confirm the generation and full model name before purchase. Do not assume a newer board has identical specifications.

  • 【Ergonomics & Mechanical Feel Keyboard】The ergonomically designed keycap height maintains the comfort for long time use, protects the wrist, and the mechanical feeling brought by the imitation mechanical technology when using it, an excellent mechanical feeling that can be enjoyed without the high price, and also a quiet membrane gaming keyboard

This is an alternate category route, not a replacement claim that it is universally better than the five picks above. Its adjustable-actuation features make it relevant to players who will configure them; the same qualification about guaranteed competitive benefit applies.

Layout guide: 60%, 68%, 75%, TKL, or full size?

Layout Desk-space profile Access you should expect Best match
60% Smallest footprint in this comparison Main typing keys; other functions commonly use layers Players who want maximum mouse room and are comfortable with shortcuts
68% Compact, with a small navigation area More dedicated navigation access than 60%, but less spread out than TKL Small desks that still need some navigation keys
75% Compact rectangular footprint Function row and arrow keys retained in compressed form Players who dislike 60% layers but do not need a number pad
TKL Wider than 60–75% boards Function row and navigation cluster; no number pad Competitive and general-use setups wanting familiar navigation access
Full size Widest footprint Includes a dedicated number pad Data entry, finance, or games and applications that use many numeric keys

Buying checklist before you place an order

  1. Confirm the exact model name and revision. Product families can contain several generations. This is especially important for the SteelSeries Apex Pro TKL discussion, which concerns the 2023 version while later generations exist.
  2. Check the layout in a product image. Verify the position of arrows, navigation keys, function row, and any unusual modifiers rather than relying only on “60%,” “68%,” or “75%” in a listing title.
  3. Verify switch technology. Hall effect features such as adjustable actuation and rapid trigger require compatible magnetic hardware and software. Do not assume a conventional mechanical switch board offers those functions.
  4. Read the compatibility information. For hot-swap boards, confirm whether replacement switches are supported and whether the socket accepts the switch types you intend to use.
  5. Confirm connectivity and accessories. Look for the exact wired, 2.4 GHz, and Bluetooth modes, receiver, cable, and charging details listed for that model. Wireless branding alone is not enough.
  6. Check the current local price and stock. Category labels such as “budget” and “premium” are relative. Taxes, shipping, promotions, and regional inventory can change the value calculation.
  7. Review return and warranty terms. A keyboard is a tactile purchase. A return window is useful if the layout, switch feel, or typing angle does not suit you.

What hot-swap and 75% mean in a separate example

Razer’s official BlackWidow V4 Pro 75% product page provides a useful example of how manufacturers describe these features. It says the wireless board is hot-swappable and compatible with most standard 3-pin or 5-pin mechanical switches. It also describes a 75% form factor that retains the function row and arrow keys, plus a Command Dial and OLED display.

Those are manufacturer specifications for that Razer model, not reasons to treat it as one of the five editorial recommendations above. The same page carries a vendor-hosted endorsement attributed to CGM Editor’s Choice: “The BlackWidow V4 Pro 75% keyboard sets a new gold standard for tenkeyless and 75% gaming keyboards.” That is an attributed marketing statement, not a standards-body finding or universal consensus.

A creator-focused alternative category

GamesRadar’s current guide discusses the Corsair Galleon 100 SD, a board with integrated Stream Deck controls, and says streamers or content creators may be a good fit for that design. GamesRadar lists a $349 MSRP in the guide accessed October 13, 2026. That figure is a manufacturer-style MSRP for that product, not a price comparison with the five keyboards above, and it may differ from current retail listings.

Choose this kind of board only if dedicated streaming controls are part of your workflow. For ordinary gaming, the five recommendations above address layout, Hall effect configuration, compactness, or wireless convenience more directly.

Final selection by need

  • Want the broadest Hall effect feature set in a familiar layout? Start with the Wooting 80HE.
  • Want a lower-cost magnetic board in a compact footprint? Compare current listings for the Gamakay x NaughShark NS68.
  • Need the smallest desk footprint? The Wooting 60HE v2 is PC Gamer’s 60% pick, provided you accept layered access to larger-layout keys.
  • Want arrows and a function row without TKL width? Consider the Keychron K2 HE and its 75% layout.
  • Prioritize premium wireless operation and programmable keys? Evaluate the Corsair K100 Air Wireless, checking its current price against wired alternatives.
  • Build for streaming controls rather than general gaming? Investigate creator-focused boards such as the Corsair Galleon 100 SD and verify the current $349 MSRP and availability.
