Sony’s U.S. recommended retail price for the base PlayStation 5 became $649.99 on April 2, 2026. The increase was announced ahead of Grand Theft Auto VI, which PlayStation currently lists for PS5 and PS5 Pro with a scheduled release date of November 19, 2026.
How much does a PS5 cost in the U.S.?
Sony announced the new suggested prices on March 27, 2026. They took effect April 2; they are recommended retail prices, not guaranteed prices or proof of current stock at any particular retailer.
| Console | U.S. recommended retail price |
|---|---|
| PS5 Digital Edition | $599.99 |
| PS5 | $649.99 |
| PS5 Pro | $899.99 |
The figures are Sony’s suggested prices for the three models, not a performance comparison or a claim about which console is best for a particular buyer. Retailers may set different prices or have different availability.
Why did Sony raise PS5 prices?
Sony cited “continued pressures in the global economic landscape” as its reason for increasing prices. That is the company’s stated rationale, not an independently quantified explanation of what caused the change. Sony said the increase applied to PS5, PS5 Pro, and PlayStation Portal remote player globally; the prices above are the U.S. console figures.
