For plague horror and quick solo fights, try Thymesia; for a more defensive rhythm, Mortal Shell. Elden Ring, Dark Souls III, and Remnant are broader alternatives that match different parts of Bloodborne rather than its full mix.
What makes a game feel like Bloodborne?
Bloodborne’s identity is more than difficult combat. FromSoftware describes Yharnam as a disease-stricken city where illness transforms people into bestial creatures and the player hunts them as a Hunter. That combination of Gothic horror, transformation, and action is why atmosphere matters as much as combat when looking for a substitute. FromSoftware’s official Bloodborne page sets out that premise.

Best Bloodborne-inspired PC games
| Game | Best for | What carries over | What changes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Lies of P | Closest overall blend of Gothic style and brisk soulslike action | Gothic atmosphere, fast combat, varied melee weapons | Its Belle Époque-inspired setting and mechanics are distinct from Bloodborne |
| Thymesia | Plague fiction and fast solo combat | Dark atmosphere, plague imagery, challenging action | Its plague-weapon system and combat identity are its own |
| Mortal Shell | A more deliberate, defensive challenge | Bleak atmosphere and punishing action | Hardening and inhabiting fallen warriors give combat a different cadence |
| Elden Ring | Open-world exploration and build freedom | FromSoftware challenge and action-RPG combat | A vast open-world fantasy adventure rather than a focused Gothic-horror journey |
| Dark Souls III | Another FromSoftware action RPG | Demanding combat and familiar design lineage | Its comparison here is less specifically Gothic-horror focused |
| Remnant: From the Ashes / Remnant II | Co-op and firearm combat | Soulslike challenge in a third-person action framework | Ranged weapons and cooperative play make it a broader alternative |
| Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice | Precision deflections and focused combat | Demanding action and high-stakes fights | Its posture-and-deflection combat loop is notably different |
Lies of P: the closest overall fit
Choose Lies of P if the combination you miss most is a dark, stylized city and assertive melee combat. PCGamesN describes its setting as Victorian Gothic and Belle Époque-inspired, and highlights its fast combat and weapon variety. Those qualities make it the strongest overall match among these options, though the game has its own setting and mechanics. PCGamesN’s soulslike guide discusses the comparison.

- Bloodborne Game of The Year
- If Bloodborne needs to be summed up, then the prevalent themes would be: exploring the fearsome unknown, intense life-and-death battles, and a familiar yet uniquely new online experience
- From the makers of the infamous Souls series, From Software's PS4 exclusive will attempt to take the tried and tested formula of giving players a sense of achievement to the next stage - especially when Miyazaki, the original creator of the Souls series is back at the helm
- What is promised is a harrowing experience like no other, and fans of tension, discovery, and straight up fun will sure to be excited to play Bloodborne
- If you have played the previous Souls games, then this one is a definite must buy
Thymesia: plague horror and fast solo fights
Thymesia is a natural pick if the disease and plague imagery of Bloodborne matter as much as its combat. Its publisher explicitly pitches it to fans of Dark Souls and Bloodborne, while the Steam listing describes fast-paced combat, a plague-weapon system, single-player play, and a Windows PC version. Expect a distinct combat system, not a one-for-one copy. See Team17’s Thymesia page and Thymesia on Steam.
Mortal Shell: a slower, more defensive take
Mortal Shell is a better fit if you want a punishing action game but are open to changing the combat rhythm. Its defining mechanics let you harden during combat and inhabit fallen warriors, placing more emphasis on timing and defense. That makes it atmospheric and challenging, but mechanically distinct from Bloodborne’s more aggressive feel. Its Steam description outlines those systems.

- Bloodborne - Game Of The Year Edition [PS4]
Elden Ring: the open-world option
Choose Elden Ring if exploration and freedom to approach a large fantasy world matter more than recreating Bloodborne’s concentrated Gothic mood. It shares FromSoftware’s demanding action-RPG sensibility, but its open-world scale and fantasy setting make it a substantial shift. The comparison source lists it for PC and frames it as an open-world option for Bloodborne fans. Metacritic’s Bloodborne comparison includes the recommendation.
Dark Souls III: more FromSoftware challenge
Dark Souls III offers another route to demanding FromSoftware action-RPG combat. It is worth considering if the design lineage and challenge are the draw, rather than Bloodborne’s specific plague-horror presentation. The cited comparison lists PC availability and recommends it as another FromSoftware challenge. Metacritic’s comparison covers this option.

- A New Generation of Action RPG: Stunningly detailed gothic environments, atmospheric lighting, and advanced new online experiences showcase the power and prowess of PlayStation 4.
Remnant: co-op and firearms
Remnant: From the Ashes and Remnant II belong on the list for players who want third-person action with a soulslike challenge but prefer firearms and cooperative play. That makes them less direct matches for Bloodborne’s combat than Lies of P or Thymesia, but useful alternatives if playing with others or fighting at range is the priority. The comparison source highlights co-op and firearms for Remnant: From the Ashes; Steam’s soulslike results include Remnant II. See Metacritic’s comparison and Steam’s soulslike search.
Sekiro: precision over Gothic atmosphere
Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice is a strong alternative if you want demanding, highly focused combat built around posture and deflections. That precision is its appeal, but its combat loop is notably different from Bloodborne’s. PCGamesN discusses the distinction, and Steam’s soulslike search includes it among PC results. See PCGamesN’s soulslike guide and Steam’s soulslike search.
