A 2026 archive catalogs 42 filmed routes recorded on patches 1.06–1.14 and in Shadow of the Erdtree, but warns that older methods may fail after updates. Use its patch labels to find historical routes—not as proof they still work.
How to choose a boss cheese route

- Recorded patch: Match the route’s recording version against your installed version. A route recorded on 1.14 is not confirmed for 1.17.1.
- Method: A build or weapon approach uses combat tools; a geometry or pathing exploit depends on how the boss or level behaves. The archive says geometry and pathing routes are especially patch-sensitive, while build and weapon methods tend to last longer. That is the archive’s generalization, not a guarantee.
- What it achieves: A route may skip a fight, bypass a phase, or simply make a difficult encounter easier. Those outcomes are not interchangeable.
- Access and platform: Check whether a method names a weapon or requires Shadow of the Erdtree, and whether it applies to your platform. The cited route index does not establish platform-by-platform compatibility.
- Available instructions: Many archive entries give only a route name and recorded patch, not a complete walkthrough. Do not assume the index alone supplies enough steps to reproduce one.
Ghosts of Reykjavik’s archive, published 3 September 2026, reports 42 filmed boss cheeses from patches 1.06 through 1.14 and Shadow of the Erdtree. It explicitly cautions that a route may no longer work on a player’s installed version. Browse the archive and its patch labels.

#1 Best Overall
- Collaborating with George R.R. Martin to create the ELDEN RING mythos has been a genuinely delightful experience and a source of wonderful inspiration. The team is working hard to ensure that the world of ELDEN RING will be a fascinating place for players to explore, filled with peril and wonder from its furthest reaches to its lowest depths. This is a FromSoftware title through and through, rich in fantasy and RPG action. We sincerely hope you look forward to it.
- Building the world of ELDEN RING with Miyazaki-san and his team was a treat! The graphics, mythos, and action-RPG gameplay will deliver an unforgettable experience. I can’t wait for people to see what ELDEN RING has in store for them.” Said George R.R. Martin.
| Boss | What the archive lists | What to keep in mind |
|---|---|---|
| Malenia, Blade of Miquella | A phase-two skip recorded on 1.10, alongside build or technique routes recorded on 1.06–1.10. | The archive recommends trying the newest recorded route first; none is verified here for 1.17.1. |
| Dragonlord Placidusax | A “no fight guaranteed” route recorded on 1.14, and older easy-kill routes on 1.09 and 1.07. | “Guaranteed” is the archive’s route label, not a claim that it works on current versions. |
| Mohg, Lord of Blood | A no-fight method recorded on 1.10. | A separate former route to cheese Mohg to enter the DLC is marked patched by the archive; treat it as historical, not advice. |
| Radagon and Elden Beast | A no-damage, kill-in-seconds entry recorded on 1.07. | Its age makes it particularly important not to infer current compatibility. |
| Rykard, Lord of Blasphemy | A Serpent-Hunter spear route. | The archive identifies the weapon-based approach but does not provide a detailed tutorial or current-patch confirmation. |
The index also names routes for Maliketh, Mimic Tear, Commander Niall, Draconic Tree Sentinel, Fire Giant, Bayle the Dread, and other bosses. For most, it supplies a label and recording patch rather than full instructions.
Updates that affect how to read older guides
Version 1.17.1: 8 September 2026
The latest official version notice located for this guide is App Ver. / Regulation Ver. 1.17.1. It addresses a multiplayer item-acquisition bug; it does not report boss-balance changes or test cheese routes. Read the official 1.17.1 notice.
Rank #3
- Elden Ring: Nightreign - Seekers Edition /PS5
Version 1.17: 27 August 2026
Version 1.17 introduced Tarnished Pack content and gameplay balance adjustments. The official notice targets PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and Steam. The Tarnished Pack is included in the Nintendo Switch 2 Tarnished Edition. The notice does not establish whether any listed cheese route works after the update; it says, “Please apply the latest update before playing.” Read the official 1.17 notes.
Version 1.12 and Elden Beast
Version 1.12 added Shadow of the Erdtree support and the ability to summon Torrent during the Elden Beast battle. That is official encounter context, not evidence of a cheese method. Read the official 1.12 notes.

What can—and cannot—be called a best cheese
“Best” depends on whether you want to avoid an encounter entirely, bypass a phase, or win with a more forgiving setup. The archive offers historical examples across those categories, but the sources available here do not verify any specific route on 1.17.1 or provide enough step-by-step detail for every indexed method. For a practical attempt, choose a route whose recorded patch is as close as possible to yours, distinguish an exploit from a weapon or build strategy, and treat success as unconfirmed unless tested on your version and platform.
