Choose by opponent and defensive personnel
- Facing a spread offense: Try 3-3-5 Tite as a matchup option. If the opponent is pass-heavy, prioritize calls with the coverage you need rather than assuming any one formation will solve the matchup.
- Want more defensive backs: 3-3-5 Tite and 4-2-5 both put five defensive backs on the field in the cited descriptions. The 4-2-5 has two linebackers, so weigh that against your need for linebackers closer to the line.
- Want variety and adjustment options: Start with Multiple and learn which formations suit the opponent’s run, pass, and spread tendencies.

How to change your defensive playbook
EA Help gives this route for its general College Football support instructions:
- From the main menu, open Settings.
- Select Game Settings, then Game Options.
- Open Playbooks and toggle Defensive Playbook to the book you want.
EA says playbooks can be switched at any time. Because the support guide is general and menu labels may vary by game or update, check the in-game menu if the route differs.
