Quick answer: what should a PC gamer buy?
For most PC gamers, the best upgrade is not the accessory with the largest number on the box. Choose a keyboard for its switch feel and layout, a mouse for its shape and grip compatibility, and Wi-Fi equipment only when wireless reliability or home-network congestion is actually limiting you.

- Best feature-heavy full-size keyboard example: Razer BlackWidow V4 Pro if you want dedicated macros, a Command Dial, media controls, RGB, and a traditional wired layout.
- Best compact customization example: Razer BlackWidow V4 Pro 75% if you want a smaller wireless keyboard, hot-swappable switches, and Bluetooth.
- Best competitive-FPS mouse example: Razer Viper V3 Pro if you prefer a lightweight, right-handed symmetrical mouse suited to claw or fingertip grips.
- Best networking approach for a stationary desktop: wired Ethernet when running a cable is practical. A gaming router cannot fix a distant game server, poor ISP routing, weak broadband service, or Internet congestion outside your home.
- When Wi-Fi 7 makes sense: a congested or difficult-to-wire home with compatible Wi-Fi 7 clients, multiple high-throughput devices, dead zones, or a need for better local wireless capacity.
The rest of the guide explains the trade-offs behind those choices and separates genuine benefits from specifications that are easy to overvalue.

Best PC gaming keyboard: buy the layout and feel first
A gaming keyboard affects every movement, ability, shortcut, and chat message, so its most important characteristics are the ones you feel constantly: switch behavior, key spacing, layout, wrist position, and software reliability. RGB lighting, macro counts, and polling rates are secondary.
Razer BlackWidow V4 Pro: full-size wired control center
The standard Razer BlackWidow V4 Pro is a strong fit for players who want a traditional full-size keyboard with more controls than a normal tenkeyless board. Razer lists per-key RGB lighting, keyboard underglow, a programmable Command Dial, eight dedicated macro keys or buttons, four media keys, and a multifunction roller. It also includes doubleshot ABS keycaps and a magnetic plush leatherette wrist rest.
This is a sensible choice for MMO players, strategy gamers, productivity-heavy users, and anyone who wants macros and media controls within reach. It is less suitable if your priority is a compact desk, minimal cable clutter, or a lightweight tournament setup. Razer’s FAQ identifies the standard BlackWidow V4 Pro as wired rather than wireless, so do not confuse it with the separate 75% model.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
The keyboard is offered with different Razer mechanical switch options, including clicky, tactile/quiet, and smooth/silent variants. Select by the sound and resistance you actually prefer:
| Switch preference | What it suits | Trade-off |
|---|---|---|
| Clicky | Players who enjoy a pronounced tactile event and audible feedback | Can be distracting in shared spaces, voice chat, or recordings |
| Tactile/quiet | Users who want feedback without the full clicky character | Still may not feel as smooth as a linear switch |
| Smooth/silent | Fast, quiet key presses and shared-room use | Less physical or audible confirmation when a key actuates |
The right switch is a comfort decision, not a ranking. A quieter or smoother switch does not automatically make you more accurate, and a clicky switch does not make a keyboard more responsive.
Razer BlackWidow V4 Pro 75%: compact and customizable
The Razer BlackWidow V4 Pro 75% is a separate product, not a wireless version of the standard full-size keyboard. Razer describes it as a wireless, Bluetooth-capable 75% keyboard with hot-swappable switches and an OLED display. With the supported HyperSpeed and HyperPolling setup, Razer lists true 4,000-Hz wireless polling. It also lists up to 2,100 hours of battery life in power-saving mode and textured doubleshot PBT keycaps.

- 【14Lighting Modes】This gaming mouse pad features 14 lighting modes: including colorful, dynamic breathing lighting mode and monochrome static lighting mode, making your gaming atmosphere warmer and more atmospheric. It also has a power-off memory function, which can memorize the mode you selected last time.
- 【Gaming Mouse Pad Large】The 31.5 x 12x 0.3 inch mouse pad fits your desktop perfectly and provides a lot of space for movement. The large mouse pad is suitable for computers and keyboards and mice, bringing the greatest help to your work environment or games.
- 【Easy to use】 This extended mouse pad has a button to control the lighting. Press once to change the color you like, press twice quickly to change the brightness, press and hold for about 3 seconds to turn on/off. The mouse pad is powered by USB, plug and play, no driver required.
- 【Super soft, smooth and waterproof】 The RGB gaming mouse pad is made of smooth microfiber material, which makes the mouse move more precise. The soft and smooth surface is more perfect for waterproofing. Effectively prevent damage from spilled beverages or other liquids, and is easy to clean with water without fading. Ideal for games or work
- [Rubber material] It is made of rubber material, which is stable and not easy to move.
Its smaller layout leaves more room for a mouse and is attractive to users who do not need a number pad. Hot-swappable switches make experimentation and replacement easier because you can change compatible switches without replacing the entire keyboard or soldering them in. That is a customization advantage, not proof of better in-game performance. Confirm switch compatibility before buying replacements.

| Layout | Best for | What you give up |
|---|---|---|
| Full-size | Users who need a number pad, dedicated navigation keys, media controls, or extensive macros | More desk space and a wider reach between keyboard and mouse |
| Tenkeyless | Players who want function and navigation keys but do not need a number pad | Number-pad input and some dedicated controls |
| 75% | Compact desks and users who want function-row and navigation access in a smaller footprint | Tighter key grouping and fewer dedicated keys |
| 65% or 60% | Minimal setups and maximum mouse space | Function-row, navigation, and sometimes arrow-key access may require layers or shortcuts |
Do not choose a compact keyboard solely because it is popular. If you frequently use a number pad, function keys, navigation keys, or macros, adapting to layers can be more annoying than the space savings are worth.
Keyboard buying checklist
- Switch feel: Decide whether you want clicky, tactile, or linear/smooth feedback. If possible, use a switch tester before committing.
- Macro controls: Dedicated buttons are convenient, but confirm that the configuration software supports the games and applications you use.
- Wrist support: A padded or plush rest can improve comfort, but check its width, attachment method, and whether it stays in place.
- Keycap material: Doubleshot ABS and PBT are different materials with different textures and aging characteristics. PBT is often chosen for a more textured feel, while ABS can develop a smoother shine over time.
- Wired versus wireless: Wired avoids battery charging and wireless pairing. Wireless adds desk flexibility but requires attention to battery status, receiver placement, charging, and firmware.
- Software: Check the manufacturer’s supported operating systems, required configuration software, firmware process, onboard-memory behavior, and whether lighting or macros depend on a background application.
- Rollover and anti-ghosting: These matter for simultaneous key presses, but they should not outweigh basic comfort and reliable firmware.
Best gaming mouse: shape beats DPI
A mouse can advertise an enormous DPI figure and a very high polling rate while still being a poor choice for your hand. Start with hand size, grip, shape, weight, and button placement. Sensor specifications matter, but they cannot compensate for a shape that causes discomfort or makes your grip unstable.
Razer Viper V3 Pro: lightweight symmetrical FPS example
The Razer Viper V3 Pro is a useful example of a competitive wireless mouse rather than a universal recommendation. Razer lists a 54-gram weight for the black version and 55 grams for the white edition, a right-handed symmetrical shape, a Focus Pro 35K optical sensor, up to 95 hours of battery life, and eight programmable controls. Razer also lists optical mouse switches rated for a 90-million-click lifecycle and support for up to 8,000-Hz wireless polling with the HyperPolling Wireless Dongle.
Razer describes the shape as particularly suited to claw and fingertip grips. That makes it an interesting option for competitive FPS players who like a light, controlled mouse, but it may not be the most comfortable choice for every hand or palm grip. The listed weight differs by color, so check the specific edition rather than assuming every version weighs the same.

How to choose a mouse by fit
| Decision | Questions to ask |
|---|---|
| Hand size | Can your fingers reach the main buttons and side buttons without stretching? Does the rear of the shell support your palm where you need it? |
| Grip | Do you use palm, claw, fingertip, or a combination? A low, short shape may suit fingertip control; a fuller rear may support a palm grip. |
| Symmetry | Do you want a centered, ambidextrous-style shape, or do you prefer a right-handed ergonomic shell with a thumb rest? |
| Weight | Do you make broad, fast swipes or prefer a heavier, planted feel? Lower weight can feel agile, but it is not automatically more comfortable or more accurate. |
| Buttons | Are two side buttons enough, or do you need more for MMOs, software shortcuts, or push-to-talk? Check their position so accidental presses are unlikely. |
| Connection | Do you need Bluetooth for multiple devices, or is a dedicated 2.4-GHz receiver sufficient? Consider receiver location, charging, and cable use while charging. |
DPI and polling rate: what the numbers really mean
A 35,000-DPI sensor setting is a capability, not a requirement. Most players use a much lower sensitivity, and changing DPI without adjusting in-game sensitivity changes the feel rather than magically improving aim.

- Water-Resistant Surface, Easy to Clean: Spill-resistant coating causes liquids to bead up for easy cleanup with a damp cloth. Designed for everyday use at gaming desks, office setups, and home environments, backed by an 18-month satisfaction assurance.
Polling rate describes how often the mouse reports its position to the computer. Higher rates can make sense for some high-refresh gaming systems, but the practical benefit depends on the game, display refresh rate, CPU load, firmware, USB behavior, and personal preference. Higher polling can also increase system work. Do not buy an 8,000-Hz mouse expecting it to lower Internet ping or automatically make your aim better.
Wireless performance should be judged by the complete implementation: receiver stability, distance and obstructions, firmware, battery behavior, and whether the mouse can be used while charging. A dedicated wireless receiver is usually the relevant connection for competitive play; Bluetooth is convenient for general-device compatibility but should be evaluated separately from the mouse’s high-performance wireless mode.
Wi-Fi for gaming: upgrade the connection only when it is the problem
A gaming router can improve wireless coverage, local reliability, congestion handling, and traffic management. It cannot automatically lower the ping to every online game. Internet latency is also shaped by your broadband connection, ISP routing, physical distance, game-server location, server load, and queueing elsewhere on the network.

What Wi-Fi 7 adds
Wi-Fi CERTIFIED 7 was introduced by the Wi-Fi Alliance in January 2024. The Wi-Fi 7 family is associated with features such as 320-MHz channels, 4096-QAM, and Multi-Link Operation (MLO). Under suitable conditions, these features are intended to improve throughput, capacity, reliability, and latency behavior.
“Under suitable conditions” is the important qualification. The result depends on the client device, operating system, router firmware, regional spectrum availability, channel conditions, building materials, obstacles, distance, and the number of competing devices. A Wi-Fi 7 router connected to an older Wi-Fi client cannot make that client use every Wi-Fi 7 feature. A compatible 6-GHz client is also necessary to benefit from the 6-GHz portion of a tri-band or quad-band setup.

TP-Link Archer GE800: gaming-focused Wi-Fi 7 example
The TP-Link Archer GE800 is aimed directly at gaming and multi-device homes. TP-Link lists tri-band BE19000 wireless capability, theoretical rates of 11,520 Mbps on 6 GHz, 5,760 Mbps on 5 GHz, and 1,376 Mbps on 2.4 GHz. It also lists two 10-Gbps ports, four 2.5-Gbps LAN ports, a dedicated gaming port, game-acceleration features, EasyMesh compatibility, and HomeShield security features.
The BE19000 figure is an aggregate theoretical rating across bands, not the download speed one device will necessarily receive. Actual throughput and coverage vary with the ISP, client limitations, network conditions, obstacles, traffic, building materials, and device location. Its multi-gigabit ports are more relevant if your broadband service, local NAS, wired backbone, or other equipment can use those speeds.
ASUS ROG Rapture GT-BE98: premium quad-band example
The ASUS ROG Rapture GT-BE98 is another premium Wi-Fi 7 example. ASUS describes it as a quad-band 802.11be router supporting 320-MHz channels, 4096-QAM, MLO, dual 10-Gbps ports, triple-level game acceleration, mobile-game mode, AiMesh, VPN features, and advertised aggregate speeds of up to 25 Gbps.
Those features may appeal to users building a large, fast network with multiple compatible clients and multi-gigabit wired equipment. They are not a guarantee of lower ping in every game. A premium router is poor value if your gaming PC already has a stable Ethernet connection and your real limitation is the ISP or game server.
Should you buy a Wi-Fi 7 gaming router?
| Your situation | Best first move |
|---|---|
| Desktop is near the router or a cable can be installed | Use wired Ethernet first for predictable local connectivity. |
| Wi-Fi is stable and you have few demanding devices | Keep the current router unless you need a specific coverage, capacity, or security improvement. |
| Several people stream, download, work, and game over Wi-Fi at once | Investigate congestion, placement, wired backhaul, QoS, and client compatibility before replacing equipment. |
| Dead zones or unreliable rooms prevent consistent play | Improve placement or coverage; consider a compatible mesh solution or a newer router if the existing system is the bottleneck. |
| You own compatible Wi-Fi 7 clients and want 6-GHz capacity or MLO | A Wi-Fi 7 router can be a defensible upgrade, subject to regional support and the local RF environment. |
| Ping is high even on Ethernet | Investigate broadband quality, ISP routing, game-server distance, and server conditions. A new Wi-Fi router is unlikely to solve it. |
How to troubleshoot gaming Wi-Fi before spending money
- Establish an Ethernet baseline. If possible, connect the PC directly to the router and compare the game’s network statistics with Wi-Fi. This separates a local wireless problem from an Internet or server problem.
- Check the local hop. In Windows, open Command Prompt and run
ipconfig. Find the Default Gateway, then runping <default-gateway>. Large variation or packet loss to the gateway points toward the local network, signal, adapter, or router rather than the game server. - Inspect the wireless connection. Run
netsh wlan show interfacesto view the connected radio details, signal information, channel, and negotiated rates. A high negotiated rate does not guarantee low latency, but it helps identify whether the PC is using the intended band. - Test while the network is busy. Compare idle behavior with a simultaneous download or upload. If latency rises sharply during local traffic, queueing or bufferbloat may be involved. Router QoS or traffic-management controls may help, but names and effectiveness vary by firmware.
- Improve placement before adding features. Move the router away from obstructions and competing electronics, place it where the gaming area has a stronger signal, and use the appropriate band. A mesh node or wired access point may be more useful than a faster router placed in the wrong room.
- Update the basics. Check router firmware, PC wireless drivers, and game updates. Re-test after changing one thing at a time so you know what helped.
- Compare routes carefully.
tracert <server-or-domain>can show where a route changes, but game servers may block diagnostic traffic and a traceroute is not a complete measurement of game performance. Use the game’s own network graph when available.
A USB Wi-Fi adapter can help a desktop with an outdated or poorly positioned internal adapter, but it still needs a compatible operating system, driver, router, band, and antenna position. It is not a substitute for fixing a weak broadband connection or a badly placed router.

- Large gaming mouse pad: useful for low-sensitivity play and broad mouse movements; check desk dimensions and surface preference.
- Replacement keycaps or mechanical switches: buy only after confirming the keyboard’s stem, mounting, switch, and keycap compatibility.
- USB-C charging cable: useful for a wireless keyboard or mouse, but verify the device’s connector and whether it supports use while charging.
- USB Wi-Fi 7 adapter: consider only for a compatible PC and Wi-Fi 7 router; driver support and antenna placement matter.
- Cat6/Cat6A Ethernet cable: a straightforward option for connecting a stationary gaming PC, access point, or console to the router. Choose a length that avoids sharp bends and trip hazards rather than paying for an implausibly fast cable label.
- Wired headset or microphone: useful for avoiding battery and wireless-interference variables, although audio equipment is outside this guide’s main keyboard, mouse, and Wi-Fi comparison.
Recommended buying order
- Fix the connection type first. Use Ethernet for a stationary PC when practical. If you must use Wi-Fi, measure the local wireless link before assuming the router needs replacing.
- Choose the mouse by fit. Decide grip, hand-size compatibility, shape, weight, and side-button layout before comparing DPI or polling rate.
- Choose the keyboard by daily comfort. Select layout, switch feel, wrist support, and keycap material. Add macros only if you will actually use them.
- Check software and compatibility. Verify operating-system support, firmware requirements, wireless receiver behavior, onboard profiles, and replacement-part compatibility.
- Upgrade Wi-Fi for a demonstrated need. Wi-Fi 7 is most defensible for compatible clients, crowded networks, difficult coverage, or a multi-gigabit home—not simply because the product says “gaming.”
- Ignore unnecessary headline numbers. Maximum DPI, 8,000-Hz polling, aggregate router throughput, RGB zones, and macro counts describe capabilities. They do not replace comfort, stable firmware, good placement, a suitable broadband connection, or a nearby game server.
Final recommendations by gamer type
| Gamer type | Most sensible setup |
|---|---|
| Competitive FPS player | A mouse that fits your grip, a large mouse pad, a keyboard with comfortable linear or tactile switches, and Ethernet where possible. |
| MMO or strategy player | A full-size keyboard such as the Razer BlackWidow V4 Pro can make macros, media controls, and the number pad useful; choose a mouse with enough reachable side buttons. |
| Small-desk or minimalist player | A 75% or tenkeyless keyboard and a lightweight mouse leave more room for broad mouse movement. |
| Shared-room player | Consider quieter switches, a stable wireless setup, and a headset microphone that does not require loud keyboard feedback. |
| Wireless-heavy household | Diagnose coverage and congestion, then consider Wi-Fi 6E or Wi-Fi 7 if compatible clients and the home layout justify it. Keep Ethernet for fixed devices when practical. |
| Multi-gigabit or advanced home network | Compare the router’s wired ports, client support, mesh design, firmware, and traffic controls—not only the aggregate wireless rating. |
The strongest 2024-style gaming setup is therefore not one universally “best” bundle. It is a comfortable keyboard, a mouse shaped for your hand, and a network connection diagnosed before it is upgraded. The Razer BlackWidow V4 Pro, Razer BlackWidow V4 Pro 75%, Razer Viper V3 Pro, TP-Link Archer GE800, and ASUS ROG Rapture GT-BE98 are useful examples for different priorities, but the right choice depends on your layout, grip, clients, home, and actual bottleneck.
Frequently Asked Questions
Will a gaming router lower my ping?
Not necessarily. A gaming router may improve local wireless coverage, congestion handling, and reliability, but Internet ping also depends on the broadband connection, ISP route, game-server location, and server conditions. Test the PC over Ethernet first when possible.
Is Wi-Fi 7 worth it for PC gaming?
Wi-Fi 7 is most worthwhile when you have compatible clients, a congested wireless home, difficult coverage, several high-throughput devices, or a need for 6-GHz capacity and newer wireless features. It is usually unnecessary for a stationary desktop that already has stable Ethernet.
Does higher mouse DPI improve aim?
No. DPI is a sensitivity and sensor-capability setting, not a direct measure of aim quality. A mouse should be selected for its shape, grip compatibility, weight, button placement, and reliable tracking at the sensitivity you actually use.
Do I need an 8,000-Hz gaming mouse?
Higher polling rates can reduce the interval between mouse reports, but the practical benefit depends on the game, display refresh rate, CPU load, firmware, USB behavior, and personal preference. An 8,000-Hz setting does not lower Internet latency or guarantee better aim.
What is the difference between the BlackWidow V4 Pro and V4 Pro 75%?
The standard BlackWidow V4 Pro is a full-size wired keyboard with extensive controls. The BlackWidow V4 Pro 75% is a separate compact wireless and Bluetooth-capable model with hot-swappable switches, an OLED display, and different keycap and battery specifications.
The Bottom Line
Bottom line: Choose keyboard feel and layout, mouse shape and grip compatibility, and Ethernet or Wi-Fi based on measured need. A high-end gaming router can improve a crowded or unreliable wireless network, but it cannot guarantee lower Internet ping; likewise, extreme DPI and polling-rate figures cannot compensate for poor fit or unstable firmware.
