If you want a PC game that can fill weeks of play, start by deciding what kind of “long” you mean. A sprawling story RPG can take dozens of hours to finish; side quests and exploration can stretch it much further; replayable missions or an open-ended strategy sandbox can keep generating new sessions without a single definitive completion time.
The picks below cover those different appetites. The hour counts are editorial or HowLongToBeat estimates relayed by publications—not promises or standardized measurements—so use them to compare the shape of an experience, not to predict exactly how long your own run will take.
Choose the kind of long game you want
A completion estimate means little unless you know what it includes. A main-story run, a completionist run, a replay-focused game and a sandbox campaign are different commitments.
- Long story: You want a clear narrative and a substantial ending. Mass Effect: Legendary Edition and Persona 5 Royal fit this shape.

Long story games with substantial endings
Mass Effect: Legendary Edition
This sci-fi collection brings together all three Mass Effect games along with their DLC and expansions. It is a strong fit if you want a connected, character-focused trilogy rather than one enormous world to roam.

Divinity: Original Sin 2
Divinity: Original Sin 2 is a deep party RPG with extensive quests and the option to play cooperatively. Open worlds that reward taking the long way
The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt
The Witcher 3 is the clearest choice if you want a large fantasy world and the freedom to pursue its stories at your own pace. PCWorld estimates that a rushed run can take 60–80 hours, while an exploratory playthrough can reach 200 hours or more before the expansions. Red Dead Redemption 2
Red Dead Redemption 2 suits players who enjoy being distracted by the world as much as advancing the main objective. GamesRadar’s 2026 Steam guide highlights the encounters and open-world diversions that can pull a player away from the next mission. The cited guide does not provide a completion-time estimate, so its best selling point here is the pace and texture of exploration, not a specific number of hours.
Days Gone
Days Gone offers a more focused main-story path alongside optional exploration in its open world. PCWorld puts the main story at around 50 hours and relays a HowLongToBeat figure of about 100 hours for a leisurely run with extras. Those totals reflect different play styles: the longer figure includes time beyond the central story.
Baldur’s Gate 3
Baldur’s Gate 3 is a broad, reactive RPG whose choices and discoveries make a single run only one way through its world. GamesRadar’s 2026 Steam guide says a 100-hour campaign can still leave much unexplored. That makes it a natural pick for players who like to investigate thoroughly or return for another campaign, rather than treating one run as the whole game.

Games built for replay or open-ended play
Hitman 3
Hitman 3’s campaign is not necessarily a huge one-time story commitment. Its longevity comes from replaying levels to find new routes, disguises, challenges and ways to approach a target. Pick it if you enjoy mastering a mission through experimentation more than steadily adding new map locations.
XCOM 2
XCOM 2 combines tactical missions with campaign management and high replayability. The official War of the Chosen expansion adds factions, enemies, storylines, weapons and more. PCWorld also points to Long War 2, a community-made total conversion mod—not an official expansion—as another way to change the experience. The exact amount of additional play depends on how you approach campaigns and which content you use.
Elden Ring

Treat it as a guide to the scale of a playthrough, not a guarantee: exploration and time spent overcoming combat challenges vary substantially.
Crusader Kings 3

PC Gamer relays an approximate HowLongToBeat estimate of 160 hours, while also noting that a campaign may take a day or weeks depending on how deeply a player engages. That range of possible commitment is part of the point: you decide how many generations, schemes and goals are enough.
