For a useful Switch 2 setup, start with the accessory that solves your problem—such as a microSD Express card for game storage, a Switch 2-fit screen protector, or a case sized for how you travel—and confirm the retailer’s current price before buying.
What to check before buying Switch 2 accessories
- Look for explicit Switch 2 compatibility. Nintendo says screen protectors made for Switch, Switch OLED or Switch Lite do not fit Switch 2. Check the packaging or product listing for the exact console model. Nintendo’s official accessory page lists Switch 2-specific products.
- Compare like with like when checking a deal. Verify the current price, stock and discount at the retailer; compare the price with that same retailer’s regular price rather than relying on an old sale listing.
- Do not assume a product category guarantees compatibility. A generic controller or webcam is not confirmed compatible just because it connects to a console or uses USB.
Choose accessories by what you need
Controller: check the generation and how you play
If you want another controller, confirm that the listing is for the Switch 2 generation and check whether it attaches to the console or is intended for wireless play. The original Switch Pro Controller can connect wirelessly to Switch 2 and can charge through a USB connection to the Switch 2 dock, according to Nintendo’s compatibility guidance.
Original Switch Joy-Con can pair wirelessly, but they cannot attach to Switch 2 or charge directly from the console. They need a Switch console or a compatible charging grip or stand for charging. Nintendo also marks the original Switch dock incompatible, and says the old AC adapter cannot be used for Switch 2 TV mode. These are limited legacy-device uses, not a promise that every old accessory will work.
Camera: for GameChat and camera-enabled features
Nintendo’s Switch 2 Camera connects to the console’s USB-C port and supports video chat and camera features. Nintendo describes an adjustable wide-angle lens and a privacy shutter, and specifies use in TV, tabletop and handheld modes. Consider where the USB-C port will be occupied in your setup and whether you want the camera’s physical shutter.

TechRadar’s September 2026 buying guide selected Nintendo’s camera as its camera pick and reported 1080p output and a wide field of view. That is the publication’s assessment, not an independent comparison here. Do not assume an arbitrary USB webcam is compatible without confirmation for that model.
Case: console-only travel or a full dock setup
A slim carrying case is easier to pack when you mainly take the console and a few games. Nintendo’s Switch 2 Carrying Case & Screen Protector includes a cleaning cloth and holds up to six game cards and two Joy-Con 2 straps, according to Nintendo’s accessory listing.

That format is not the same as a travel case for TV play. TechRadar’s case review says Nintendo’s slim case does not fit the dock or Pro Controller, while its All-In-One case accommodates the dock, cables, console and controller. Choose a larger dock-capable case if you need to carry the full setup; it takes more space than a console-first case.
Screen protector: buy for Switch 2’s dimensions
Choose a protector that explicitly names Nintendo Switch 2. Nintendo says protectors for Switch, Switch OLED and Switch Lite will not fit the newer console. TechRadar’s September 2026 guide recommends Belkin Tempered Glass Anti-Reflective Screen Protector, citing anti-glare and scratch-resistance benefits. Treat that as a publication recommendation, not a guarantee of fit for other Belkin products; check the exact model listing.

Storage: microSD Express is required for Switch 2 games
Switch 2 storage expansion requires a microSD Express card. Nintendo says a conventional microSD card cannot store Switch 2 games; it can be used to view screenshots and videos captured on Switch. Nintendo describes Switch 2 as designed exclusively for microSD Express cards, which allow faster data transfer than conventional microSD. Check that the card is explicitly microSD Express before buying; a familiar microSD card is not a substitute for game storage.

- Open the retailer listing and confirm the exact accessory model and Switch 2 compatibility.
- Check that it is in stock for your location and that the displayed price applies to the item you intend to buy.
- Compare with the same retailer’s regular price, and note whether the reduction is a limited promotion or recurring price. Do not treat an older article’s price as current.
