The best Pals for base work are the ones that meet a facility’s required Work Suitability, are available at your stage of the game, and bring useful extra jobs without leaving important tasks uncovered. There is no single best base roster for every player: Palworld’s 1.0 changes let Pals improve a suitability as they rank up, while the clearest named specialist examples are late-game options.
How to choose Pals for base work
Start with the facility, not a tier list. Check which Work Suitability it requires and assign a Pal that qualifies. Palworld’s July 10, 2026 version 1.0 changelog says the game alerts you when no Pal at your base meets a facility’s required suitability.

- Access: A powerful specialist is not useful to a new save if it is only available much later.
- Progression: The 1.0 changelog says each time a Pal ranks up, one of its Work Suitability Levels increases. A Pal that qualifies now may become more useful as it develops.
- Other jobs: When base slots are limited, a Pal with useful secondary work roles can cover more than one need. Make sure those extra roles do not leave a priority facility without a suitable worker.

The named examples below come from a secondary guide to version 1.0 published August 14, 2026. They are useful starting points, not a complete ranking of every Pal or a guarantee that one choice is best for every base.

How many Pals should you keep at a base?
On dedicated servers, Pocketpair’s server configuration guide lists a configurable maximum of 50 base Pals per base and warns that raising the cap increases processing load. That is a server ceiling, not a recommended roster size. For your own base, prioritize workers that cover its actual facilities; adding Pals simply to reach the cap may not be worthwhile.
Should you keep Pals for base defense?
Defense is a separate roster consideration when PvP is enabled. In the documented trial PvP mode, base Pals engage hostile players trespassing into a base and engage enemies over a wider area. Pocketpair describes this behavior in its PvP documentation. The behavior is specific to that mode, so do not assume it applies to every server or setting.
