Best FC 24 skill moves by use case
1. Double Touch Lane Change — shift into a different lane
Requirement: 4 stars. Input: hold L2 (PlayStation) or LT (Xbox), then hold the right stick left or right. EA added the move in the later Festival of Football update. Its side-to-side input makes it a practical choice when you want to change direction rather than attempt a more elaborate trick. 2. Drag Back Turn — turn away from pressure
Requirement: 4 stars. Input: hold L2/LT and hold the right stick back. This is a straightforward option to try when receiving the ball with a defender close behind: the input is intended to turn the player back rather than push forward into pressure. 3. Ball Roll Drag — redirect in a close one-on-one
Requirement: 4 stars. Input: hold L1 (PlayStation) or LB (Xbox), then flick the right stick forward and left or right. The combined directional input can help you attempt a change of direction in a tight space. Because it asks for a modifier and a sequence of stick directions, it takes more coordination than a single directional hold. EA documents its input in the gameplay deep dive.
4. Flair Nutmegs — attempt to evade a close defender
Requirement: 4 stars. Input: hold L1+R1 (PlayStation) or LB+RB (Xbox), then flick the right stick in a direction. This is an option for a close one-on-one where you want to attempt an evasive move, but the input requires two modifier buttons and a directional flick. EA identifies it as a four-star move in the FC 24 gameplay notes.

5. Flair Rainbow — a higher-skill one-on-one attempt
Requirement: 5 stars. Input: hold L1/LB and move the right stick back, then forward. The two-direction sequence and five-star threshold make this a less accessible choice than the four-star moves above. What to use when receiving the ball with a defender behind you
Start with the Drag Back Turn if you want to turn away from the defender; use a Double Touch Lane Change when the space to either side is the route out. Choose based on the available space and the direction you want to go. A one-on-one move such as Ball Roll Drag may suit a defender approaching from in front, but complex inputs are harder to execute if you have little time or room.
Eligibility: which players can perform these moves?
A player needs a skill-move rating at least as high as the move’s star requirement. A four-star move is not available to a player rated below four stars, and Flair Rainbow requires five stars. EA’s FC 24 feature lists these players among its five-star skillers: Alexia Putellas, Kylian Mbappé, Caroline Graham Hansen, Neymar Jr, Vinícius Júnior, Debinha, Martin Ødegaard, Beth Mead, Lina Magull, Riyad Mahrez, Cristiano Ronaldo, Christopher Nkunku, Jamal Musiala, Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, Ousmane Dembélé, Kingsley Coman, Marcus Rashford, Memphis Depay, Thiago, and Amel Majri. Related dribbling input: Effort Dribble Touch
EA also describes Effort Dribble Touch, a quick directional knock-on, but it is a related dribbling mechanic rather than one of the star-rated moves ranked above. Press R1 and use the right stick on PlayStation, or RB and use the right stick on Xbox. A quick flick makes a shorter knock-on; holding the stick produces a longer one. EA’s gameplay deep dive gives these controls.
Why there is no universal “best” move
EA’s gameplay notes say, “We have added new skill moves to the game and made some changes to existing ones.” The official material documents inputs and requirements, not a head-to-head effectiveness ranking or success rate. Independent rankings, including Team Gullit’s video EA FC 24 – The 5 Best Skill Moves, reflect a creator’s selection rather than an official or universally valid order. GamesRadar’s guide is a secondary reference for skill-move tiers and FC 24 additions; for the controls described here, EA’s documented inputs take precedence.
