Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsThe best follow-up depends on which part of Tears of the Kingdom you want more of. For classic top-down overworlds, dungeons, item progression, and bosses, start with Blossom Tales II: The Minotaur Prince or Pipistrello and the Cursed Yoyo. For another sprawling 3D world, look at Skyrim or The Witcher 3—but expect different mechanics and, in places, a rougher or more adult experience. Death’s Door is a compact action-adventure; Tunic is a more unusual, puzzle-led one.
“Zelda-like” covers several different appeals, not one game that reproduces all of Hyrule. Nintendo describes Tears of the Kingdom as a sequel to Breath of the Wild in which players choose their path across Hyrule and its floating islands. The picks below distinguish that open-world scale from the older top-down dungeon loop and from more focused adventures. Nintendo’s official game page is the reference for the game’s premise and Switch compatibility.

If you want classic top-down Zelda
These games are the closest fits if you miss a compact overhead view, a connected overworld, dungeons, puzzles, and a growing set of useful items rather than a huge 3D landscape.

Blossom Tales II: The Minotaur Prince
Blossom Tales II is the clearest match for the classic loop: explore an expansive overworld, find secrets and obstacles, gain useful items, then use them while solving dungeon puzzles, fighting enemies, and taking on bosses. Nintendo Life compares its feel to Link’s Awakening. That familiarity is the point; the same guide says it is not especially original, so choose it for a well-worn formula rather than a reinvention. Nintendo Life’s guide describes its structure and comparison.
#1 Best Overall
- True to the Original
- Striking Art Direction and Score
- Respectful Representation
- Officially Licensed & Supported
- Deluxe Edition Content: Full game, Cowboys & Critters DLC, 3 art cards, Reversible coversheet
Pipistrello and the Cursed Yoyo
This newer retro-styled pick is aimed particularly at fans of top-down entries such as The Minish Cap. Nintendo Life calls it a retro Zelda-like, while noting occasional difficulty spikes. Its guide lists a May 28, 2025 release in North America and the UK/EU, with Pocket Trap as developer and PM Studios as publisher. Check the store for your region and platform before buying, since availability can differ. Nintendo Life’s guide provides that release and recommendation information.
Ittle Dew 2+
Ittle Dew 2+ channels 2D Zelda games such as A Link to the Past and The Minish Cap, with exploration and dungeon-solving at its center. Nintendo Life notes that the Switch version adds five dungeons. It is another option if you want a top-down adventure, though the available guide does not describe it as closely matching the full item-and-boss progression of Blossom Tales II. Nintendo Life’s guide outlines its Zelda influences and Switch content.

- Become the most feared pirate in the Caribbean in Assassin’s Creed IV Black Flag. Take part in an award-winning naval experience and explore a massive open world.
- Become the ultimate assassin hunter in Assassin’s Creed Rogue, and play as a Templar for the first time in franchise history.
- Additional bonus content: Black Beard: The Lost Journal (pp. 1– 55) and Assassin’s Creed: Awakening Volumes 1 & 2.
- Experience enhanced features like handheld mode, HD Rumble, a touch screen interface, and motion control aiming.
If you want another sprawling 3D world
Tears of the Kingdom makes exploration across a large landscape central to its appeal. These role-playing games offer a comparable sense of scale, but neither should be mistaken for a close match to Zelda’s mechanics or polish.
The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim
Skyrim is an expansive open-world option on Switch, with plenty of space to roam. Nintendo Life cautions that it shows its age and has rough edges, including oddities in its NPCs and world. If what you value in Hyrule is a carefully authored world and a polished adventure, expect a less meticulous experience here. The guide lists the Switch release date as November 17, 2017. Nintendo Life’s guide covers the Switch version and its caveats.
Rank #3

- Team Up in Multiplayer: Everything is better with friends. Invite other players to your island and complete multiplayer challenges to boost each other’s stamina, solve the island’s trickiest puzzles, chase new high scores, or build beautiful vacation homes together. Multiplayer guests can even decorate their own Friendship Cabins on your island.
The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt – Complete Edition
Choose The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt – Complete Edition for a sprawling 3D role-playing adventure, an ambitious environment, and a story with a broad scope. Its mechanics are less refined than Link’s adventure, and its tone is more adult than most of the other recommendations here. The Nintendo Life guide lists its Switch release date as October 15, 2019; check the current store listing for the edition and regional availability. Nintendo Life’s guide discusses its world, story, and differences.

For a smaller commitment or a different kind of exploration, these games retain some of the action-adventure appeal without trying to recreate the open-world structure of Tears of the Kingdom.
Rank #4

- Survive Above All: Hunger, thirst, basic safety, and protecting yourself from the weather are all part of the game

- Customize Everything: An extensive crafting system invites you to mix and match materials scavenged from the island, while also modifying the colors, textures, shapes, and styles
- Explore the Island: Solve the mystery of The ARK as you explore this massive island, discovering Explorer's Notebooks (filled with clues!) throughout
Death’s Door
Death’s Door pairs snappy combat with rewarding exploration and relaxing music. Nintendo Life characterizes it as a short, sweet action-adventure and recommends it to Zelda fans. The guide lists an “Ultimate Edition,” but editions and retailer stock can change; confirm the platform, region, and contents in the current listing before purchasing. Nintendo Life’s guide gives its recommendation and edition details.
Tunic
Tunic is an isometric adventure starring a fox with a sword and shield. It is a good choice for discovery and atmosphere, but not for a familiar sequence of Zelda-style item puzzles: Nintendo Life explicitly distinguishes its puzzle design from that formula. Treat it as an adjacent adventure, not a mechanical stand-in. Nintendo Life’s guide explains that distinction.
Dungeons of Dreadrock
This is the puzzle-first option: a dungeon crawler that Nintendo Life says looks reminiscent of The Minish Cap. The guide preferred the free mobile version, or the paid ad-free mobile experience, for value over Switch. Mobile pricing can change, so check the current listing before choosing a version. Nintendo Life’s guide describes its puzzle focus and version comparison.
Quick comparison

| Pipistrello and the Cursed Yoyo | Top-down; retro Zelda-like adventure | Strong fit for fans of The Minish Cap; occasional difficulty spikes. |
| Ittle Dew 2+ | 2D; exploration and dungeons | Channels classic 2D Zelda; Switch version adds five dungeons. |
| Skyrim | 3D; expansive open-world RPG | Large world, but rougher edges and less meticulous polish. |

| Death’s Door | Action-adventure | Shorter, focused experience with combat and exploration. |
| Tunic | Isometric; discovery and puzzles | Adventure atmosphere, but not the expected Zelda item-puzzle sequence. |
| Dungeons of Dreadrock | Dungeon crawler; puzzle-led | Choose it primarily for solving rooms rather than a broad open world. |
