The Collective reportedly pitched a Witchblade beat ’em up for the original Xbox around 2002, but the project was cancelled quickly and never officially announced. A retrospective archive says a playable demo may have been prepared and preserves some 3D models; it does not establish that a complete playable game existed or explain why the pitch ended.

What was The Collective’s Witchblade game?

Unseen64’s retrospective account, published November 2, 2020, describes a proposed Witchblade beat ’em up for the original Xbox. It dates the pitch to around 2002 and says it was cancelled quickly. The account does not provide an exact cancellation date. Unseen64’s entry on the cancelled game is the principal public account of the project.

The Collective had released games including Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Marc Ecko’s Getting Up, and Unseen64 notes the studio’s experience with licensed games. That context helps explain why it might have pursued a comic-book property, but it does not confirm that the Witchblade pitch reused either game’s assets or design.

Was the cancelled Witchblade game playable?

Unseen64 says that, “as far as we know,” the team prepared a playable demo, possibly reusing animations or models from Buffy the Vampire Slayer. The wording is explicitly uncertain. The page preserves images of 3D models, but models alone do not prove that a complete or functional demo survives—or establish how much of the game was built.

What was the story, and why was it cancelled?

The project was never officially announced, and Unseen64 says it knows no further details about the team’s plans for the franchise. The public account establishes no story, protagonist details, publisher, release window, or confirmed reason for cancellation. Any explanation for why the pitch ended would go beyond what this record supports.

Was it connected to the later Witchblade game associated with Climax?

A search-result excerpt from NAG Magazine’s September 2005 issue refers to a Witchblade game associated with Climax, Xbox 360, and Atari. The relationship between that reference and The Collective’s earlier original Xbox pitch is not established in the available account, so the projects should not be treated as the same game.

What can be said about the game’s design?

Unseen64 suggests the pitch might have been similar to The Collective’s Buffy the Vampire Slayer game, but presents that as a possibility, not a confirmed design description. Beyond the beat ’em up label, the archive does not document specific combat systems, levels, characters, or story details. A firmer account would require confirmation from developers or the rights holder.
