Start by identifying what “lag” actually is. In The Crew 2, rubber-banding, delayed inputs and teleporting players usually make a network, NAT or service problem more likely; a collapsing frame rate, camera hitch or loading freeze points toward your PC. Check both before changing router settings or reinstalling the game. The PC version supports Windows 10 and 11, and Ubisoft added Hybrid Mode, so Online Mode is required for multiplayer while Offline Mode can help isolate local stutter.

First, separate network lag from FPS stutter
Enable an FPS and frame-time overlay from NVIDIA, AMD, Xbox Game Bar, Steam or another trusted monitor. Reproduce the problem in the same activity—free roam with another player, a crew event and a fast race—then compare the graph with what other players and voice chat are doing.

Quick checklist
- Check Ubisoft service and maintenance announcements.
- Restart the game, Ubisoft Connect, PC, modem and router.
- Use Ethernet, or test a clear 5 GHz/6 GHz Wi-Fi connection.
- Stop downloads, cloud backups, streams and VPNs.
- Compare Online and Offline Mode while watching FPS and frame time.
- Record your Windows, GPU-driver, router and ISP details if escalation is needed.
Fix 1: Check Ubisoft service status before changing your setup
Ask whether crew members in different homes see the same rubber-banding. Check Ubisoft’s current support/status destination and the game’s official news and maintenance posts. Historical notices, such as the Patch 1.0.3 notes, show that server-stability work has occurred before, but they do not prove an outage today. After a listed maintenance window ends, fully exit and relaunch the game and Ubisoft Connect.
Fix 2: Use Ethernet or stabilize Wi-Fi
Advertised download speed does not guarantee low ping. Racing play is more sensitive to latency, packet loss and congestion than to unused bandwidth.
- Connect the PC directly to the router with Ethernet and retest the same event.
- If wired testing is impossible, use 5 GHz or 6 GHz Wi-Fi where supported, move nearer to the access point and avoid crowded 2.4 GHz channels.
- Pause downloads, cloud synchronization, updates and video streams on the network.
- Temporarily remove Wi-Fi extenders and powerline adapters from the path.
- Restart the modem/router once, then test again.
Ethernet cannot repair an Ubisoft outage or a poor ISP route; it only removes a common local source of instability.

Fix 3: Restart the complete connection path
- Exit The Crew 2 and Ubisoft Connect completely.
- Shut down the PC.
- Unplug the modem and router for about 60 seconds.
- Power on the modem and wait until it reconnects.
- Power on the router and wait for internet/Wi-Fi service.
- Start the PC, Ubisoft Connect and the game, then repeat the same multiplayer test.
This clears a stale local session or temporary router fault; it is not a substitute for checking service status.
Fix 4: Allow the game and Ubisoft Connect through security software
Windows Defender Firewall, third-party security suites, router filtering, VPNs and traffic-shaping tools can interfere with authentication or traffic. Create allow rules for the legitimate game and Ubisoft Connect executables instead of disabling protection permanently. Disconnect an active VPN for one controlled test; VPN routing can add latency or packet loss. If the VPN improves the route, treat that as evidence of an ISP-routing problem rather than proof that a VPN is required.
Fix 5: Check UPnP and use port forwarding only when necessary
UPnP or forwarding may help connection establishment, strict NAT or matchmaking. It is not a guaranteed cure for high ping, packet loss or server-side lag.

- Sign in to the router and confirm UPnP is enabled.
- Reboot the router and retest.
- If there is no improvement, consult Ubisoft’s current port-forwarding article. Port requirements can change, so do not use an old port list.
- Reserve the PC’s local IP address before creating manual rules.
- Forward only the ports Ubisoft currently documents, test, and remove unnecessary rules if nothing changes.
Double NAT (for example, an ISP gateway plus a second router), carrier-grade NAT and unusual IPv6-only arrangements can prevent forwarding. Ask the ISP about CGNAT when forwarding has no effect. Do not place the PC in a DMZ or disable IPv6 as a blanket fix.
Fix 6: Verify the game files and repair the launcher installation
Steam
- Open Steam and select Library.
- Right-click The Crew 2 and choose Properties.
- Open Installed Files.
- Select Verify integrity of game files.
Ubisoft Connect
In Ubisoft Connect, open Games, select The Crew 2, open Properties and use Verify files if that label is present in your current client. Store versions purchased through Steam or Epic may need verification in that store as well, while Ubisoft Connect still handles authentication and launching. Restart both launchers after repair. Steam’s listing identifies Ubisoft support and BattlEye/VMProtect components, so integrity problems are not limited to the main game executable.

Fix 7: Update or roll back GPU, chipset and network drivers
- Record your current GPU-driver version.
- Install a current NVIDIA or AMD driver, or roll back to the previous stable version if the problem began immediately after an update.
- Install chipset and network-adapter drivers from the motherboard or laptop manufacturer.
- Reboot and retest.
- On a laptop, assign the game to the dedicated GPU rather than integrated graphics.
Do not assume the newest driver is always best. Ubisoft’s PC overview and historical updates document compatibility issues involving older instruction sets and mixed AMD/NVIDIA systems, so check the actual hardware and driver combination.

Fix 8: Remove frame-time spikes and overlay conflicts
- Cap FPS at a value your PC can sustain consistently.
- Lower shadows, environment mapping, volumetric effects, grass and anti-aliasing first.
- Test V-Sync both on and off.
- Compare exclusive fullscreen with borderless fullscreen.
- Disable one overlay at a time: Ubisoft Connect, Steam, Discord, Xbox Game Bar and NVIDIA/AMD recording or performance overlays.
- Temporarily close RGB, wheel/controller, macro, capture and hardware-monitoring utilities.
- Avoid frame-generation and other experimental driver-level features while diagnosing the base game.
- Use an SSD if storage latency contributes to loading pauses.
Ubisoft documents an in-game FPS limit, V-Sync, display modes and adjustable geometry, shadows, textures, environment mapping, volumetric, grass and anti-aliasing settings. Lowering these can remove local stutter, but it cannot reduce packet loss or change the network route.

Stable FPS but repeated warping
Prioritize Ethernet, packet-loss testing, VPN removal, firewall checks, NAT and ISP support. A high Mbps speed-test result does not rule out latency or loss.
Offline is smooth, Online is not
Focus on service status, launcher authentication, firewall/VPN behavior, Wi-Fi and NAT. Offline Mode cannot validate multiplayer connectivity.

Offline also stutters
Focus on drivers, dedicated-GPU selection, frame caps, graphics settings, overlays, temperatures and storage.
Manual forwarding changed nothing
Check double NAT, CGNAT, the reserved local IP and whether the router actually applied the rule. Remove rules that provide no benefit.
The issue started after an update
Verify files, disable newly enabled overlays or graphics features and test the previous stable GPU driver.
When to contact Ubisoft or your ISP
Escalate after controlled tests show a repeatable problem that local changes do not resolve. Provide:
- Store/platform version (Steam, Ubisoft Connect or Epic).
- Windows version, CPU, RAM, GPU and driver version.
- Wired or wireless connection, ISP and router model.
- Whether the whole crew or only one player is affected.
- Your region and approximate date/time of incidents.
- Screenshots or video showing rubber-banding alongside the FPS/frame-time overlay.
Use Ubisoft’s official game support destinations for game-side issues and your ISP for persistent packet loss or routing problems. The official store lists an older baseline of an i5-2400S/FX-6100, GTX 660/HD 7870 with 2 GB VRAM and 8 GB RAM, with a recommended i5-4690K/Ryzen 5 1600 and GTX 970/RX 470-class GPU; these are published baseline specifications, not a guarantee of smooth 2026 performance.
