Registration is open for a chance to join upcoming PC tests of The Division 2: Survivors, but the project remains a work in progress. Ubisoft describes it as an expansion that turns Washington, D.C. into a winter survival experience. The company has not announced a public release date or price.
What is The Division 2: Survivors?
Survivors is a winter survival expansion for The Division 2. Ubisoft announced it on August 22, 2025, as an “updated take on the survival extraction experience,” when development was still in its early stages and Magnus Jansén was named creative director. Ubisoft’s announcement also included Executive Producer Julian Gerighty’s commitment to transparency and community involvement, without promising a particular update schedule or level of player influence.

In its August 27, 2026 update, Ubisoft described the expansion as a hardcore winter survival experience set in a transformed Washington, D.C. It draws inspiration from the original The Division Survival mode, but Ubisoft says it is being designed as its own experience with grounded, challenging gameplay. That makes it an expansion within The Division 2, not a standalone game in the current official description. Ubisoft’s Gamescom update provides the current overview.
How will the winter setting affect play?
Ubisoft has outlined environmental systems meant to shape decisions during a run. Snow can record tracks and, when it is deep enough, slow movement. Temperature matters too: players will need to account for heat sources, and Ubisoft says nights are significantly colder. Darkness also reduces enemy detection range.

Runs are intended to change from one session to another. Ubisoft says weather and time of day can vary, loot locations are randomized, and routes and extraction points can shift dynamically. It also says players should have more control over session length and challenge, but has not published detailed settings or rules for those options. These are announced design plans, not a finalized feature list.
Can you choose PvE or PvP?
Yes. Ubisoft says players will choose whether a session is PvE or PvP-enabled. PvP is therefore an option, not a requirement for every session. The official descriptions do not yet explain the precise rules or matchmaking for either choice.

How to register for a Survivors test
Ubisoft opened registration for upcoming tests on September 24, 2026. The notice describes the upcoming test as being for PC players and says communication is expected in English. Registration is a chance to participate, not a guarantee of selection. Ubisoft also warns that participants may encounter a work-in-progress build with bugs or rough edges. Read Ubisoft’s test registration notice for its current instructions.

You do not need to own The Division 2 to participate in the test, according to Ubisoft. That exception applies to test participation; it does not change the company’s description of Survivors as an expansion to The Division 2.

What has Ubisoft not confirmed?
As of October 8, 2026, Ubisoft’s official announcements reviewed here do not give Survivors a public release date, release window, price, or final retail format. The test registration notice also does not state test dates, PC hardware requirements, or geographic eligibility. Ubisoft continues to describe the project as a work in progress, so the announced features may not represent the final experience.
A 2025 report by Insider Gaming mentioned a 2026 release, but Ubisoft’s announcement did not confirm that year. It should not be treated as an official launch date or window.
