What did the Ubisoft developer say about The Division 3?
In an interview for the New Game+ Showcase, Julian Gerighty said: “Within these walls at Massive, we are working extremely hard on something that I think will have as big an impact as Division 1 was.” VGC reported the remarks on January 9, 2026. The key phrase is “I think”: Gerighty was describing his belief about the project, not reporting a measured forecast. The comment does not establish how the game will perform with players or commercially.

Why is The Division 1 the comparison?
The original Tom Clancy’s The Division launched in 2016 as an online open-world action RPG set in post-pandemic New York. Ubisoft listed PC, Xbox One and PlayStation 4 among its launch platforms. Ubisoft’s 2016 launch announcement

Ubisoft said the game sold through more copies in its first 24 hours of availability than any previous title in the company’s history. That was based on Ubisoft internal estimates as of March 9, 2016, so it is a company-reported launch claim—not a current measure of the franchise’s reach.
A separate Ubisoft statement in May 2021 put the franchise at 40 million unique players at that time, attributing the figure to executive director Alain Corre. Who is making The Division 3?
Ubisoft announced in September 2023 that Massive Entertainment was leading development of The Division 3 and was actively building a team for the project. The announcement named Gerighty executive producer for The Division brand. Ubisoft also quoted Massive managing director Thomas Andrén, who said Gerighty’s dedication to the brand and game-development background made him a “perfect match” to usher in a new era for the series. No. Windows Central reported on January 16, 2026 that Gerighty was leaving Ubisoft for Battlefield-related work. In the same report, Massive said its teams remained and its commitment to The Division 2, Survivors, Resurgence and The Division 3 was “ambitious” and “unchanged.” That is the studio’s reported statement at the time, not a later update on development or leadership. When is The Division 3 coming out, and what platforms will it use?
VGC’s January 9, 2026 report said Ubisoft had not shared a release date or platform information for The Division 3. That describes what had been announced as of that report; it should not be treated as confirmation of the game’s status after that date.
