But the resemblance is aesthetic, not evidence of shared lore. Director Hidetaka Miyazaki has said the games have “no connection whatsoever,” while describing The Duskbloods as an online PvPvE multiplayer action game for Nintendo Switch 2.
Why The Duskbloods gives off Bloodborne vibes
The comparison has a clear visual basis. Miyazaki described The Duskbloods’ settings as Gothic- or Victorian-style, and preview coverage has noted structures and motifs that recall Bloodborne. Blood is also central to the game’s imagery and premise, and its cast has vampire-adjacent associations. Both games are FromSoftware titles directed by Miyazaki.

That adds up to a recognizable mood, but mood is not canon. Similar architecture, terminology or imagery does not establish a sequel, remake, spiritual successor or shared fictional world.
Is The Duskbloods connected to Bloodborne?
No. In an interview reported by GamesRadar on August 20, 2026, Miyazaki said, “I expected this question, but it is a game with no connection whatsoever to Bloodborne.” He added that there are similar terms and concepts, but “the themes are quite different.”

Miyazaki has also described “blood” in The Duskbloods as a concept tied to history, inherited power, fate and surpassing human limits—not simply literal injury. The Bloodsworn are people with superhuman abilities from special blood, and they compete for “First Blood” as humanity approaches its twilight.
What kind of game is The Duskbloods?
Unlike what some players might infer from the Bloodborne comparison, The Duskbloods is built around online competition and cooperation. Nintendo and FromSoftware announced it as an online multiplayer action game for Nintendo Switch 2, with matches supporting up to eight players. Its PvPvE format combines player-versus-player conflict with enemies controlled by the game.

Miyazaki’s April 2025 interview described a hub, character selection and customization, and rewards after matches whether players win or lose. Players can pursue personal objectives, and events during a match can alter goals or rewards. These are announced design details and could change before launch.
How its combat and characters differ from the Bloodborne impression
Miyazaki said the combat has more mobility and ranged options than the studio’s earlier titles. He described sprinting, super jumps and double jumps, as well as distinct weapons and abilities; every character has at least one ranged attack option. His 2025 interview also said the game would feature over a dozen characters.

The official description makes the multiplayer structure central, rather than presenting a single-player action adventure. The announced mechanics and match objectives point to a different kind of experience even where the art direction evokes familiar FromSoftware territory.

The Duskbloods was announced for worldwide release in 2026 as a Nintendo Switch 2 exclusive. Nintendo’s June 9, 2026 Direct description still listed it as a 2026 Switch 2 exclusive and mentioned opportunities for temporary alliances. The sources available as of October 8, 2026 do not establish an exact release date, price, preorder window or physical edition.

So the best shorthand is: The Duskbloods looks Bloodborne-adjacent in atmosphere, but it is a separate game with a distinct premise and online PvPvE format—and Miyazaki has explicitly ruled out a connection.
