When is The Elder Scrolls 6 coming out?
Bethesda has not announced a release date or launch window for The Elder Scrolls VI (TES VI). Its latest cited update, published July 17, 2026, describes the game’s development but gives no target year or launch timeframe. There is therefore no supported basis for saying TES VI will arrive in 2027, 2028, or another specific year.
Bethesda’s current description is that TES VI is its “primary development focus,” with “the majority of our team currently working on the next chapter of the franchise.” The studio also says, “We’re where we planned to be, loving how it looks, and playing it every day.” These are meaningful signs of active development, but they are not a release schedule. Bethesda Game Studios’ July 17, 2026 update is the clearest current source for that status.
Is Elder Scrolls 6 coming out before GTA 6?
The available evidence points to GTA VI arriving first, but the release order is not formally confirmed. Rockstar’s official GTA VI page currently lists November 19, 2026, for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. Bethesda has not published a TES VI date to compare against it.

GamesRadar+ reports that Bethesda Game Studios director Todd Howard was asked which of GTA VI, TES VI, or Fallout 5 would release first and replied, “I got my fingers crossed for GTA 6.” That suggests he expects GTA VI first, but it is not a direct announcement of TES VI’s release order. GamesRadar+’s report likewise cautions against treating the remark as confirmation.

What Bethesda’s latest update says about development
Bethesda says TES VI and Fallout 5 are being developed on Creation Engine 3, which it describes as a shared technology platform the studio has been building since Starfield launched. The update also says most of the team is working on TES VI and that the team plays it daily. Those details establish the game’s current development focus; they do not establish how much work remains or when it will ship.

Some older Bethesda material uses different wording. The official announcement-teaser support page still describes TES VI as “currently in pre-production.” That page is older, so its status wording should not be read as the studio’s latest account; Bethesda’s July 2026 update describes the game as in development on Creation Engine 3 and its primary focus.
In a July 17, 2026 interview, Windows Central asked Howard for a launch window and reported that no timeline was offered. Windows Central’s interview coverage characterizes the game as too far away for a launch window to be put on paper. The published Bethesda update remains the primary source for the studio’s stated development status.

What not to infer from the update
- “Primary development focus” does not mean launch is imminent. Bethesda has not translated that status into a public date or window.
- Daily play is not a completion announcement. The studio has not said the game is finished or that it has entered a dated launch phase.
- GTA VI’s date does not create a TES VI date. November 19, 2026 is Rockstar’s currently posted date for GTA VI, not a Bethesda commitment about TES VI.
- Howard’s reported comment is an expectation, not confirmation. It supports the likelihood of GTA VI arriving first but does not establish a formal order.
