Is ESO cross-play available now?
No. Under the current setup, PC and Mac players share a megaserver community, while Xbox and PlayStation each have separate megaservers. Players cannot currently join friends playing on the other platform groups, according to ESO’s platform support page.

Playing through the Xbox app on PC or using Xbox Play Anywhere does not change those server boundaries. The cross-play feature ZeniMax Online Studios has discussed has not launched.
When is cross-play coming to ESO?
There is no announced launch date or testing schedule. On April 28, 2026, ESO community manager ZOS_Kevin said, “Crossplay will not be this year,” and said the team needed the year to work through the considerations involved. That is the latest public timing statement cited here, so players should not expect a 2026 release. Read the April 28 community update.

Earlier, in an interview published January 6, 2026, executive producer Susan Kath said, “Cross-play is definitely coming, but it’s going to be a while.” She confirmed that work was underway, while stressing that ESO was not built with cross-play in mind and that the problem was complex. ESO maintains separate North American and European megaservers for PC/Mac, Xbox, and PlayStation. A single ESO account can be used on multiple platforms, but it does not make characters or progression portable between them. Players also need a separate game copy for each platform they want to play on. The details are in ESO’s account and progression support information.
What the studio has—and has not—said about how it will work
The studio has confirmed development, but has not announced the final platform scope or server design. It has not said whether servers or economies will merge, whether players will be able to opt out, or how names and guilds will be handled. The April 2026 update said details were still being worked through and could change.

GameSpot’s report on Kath’s interview also raised separate platform economies, performance, and PC add-ons unavailable on console as development concerns. Those are reported considerations, not a complete technical checklist or decisions the studio has confirmed.

What to expect as a player
- If you want to play with a friend on another platform today, ESO’s current support boundaries do not allow it.
- If you are choosing where to start, assume your character and progression will remain on that platform; the future cross-play arrangement has not been specified.
- For a release or testing date, wait for an official update. The latest stated timing rules out 2026 but gives no later window.
