In The First Descendant, Modules are the build pieces that improve Descendant and weapon performance. Your choices are constrained by module slots, restrictions, and Max Module Capacity: matching a module to its socket type halves its capacity cost, while enhancements and long-term upgrades let you fit more into a build.
What Modules do—and where you equip them
Nexon’s official guide describes Modules as items that enhance Descendant and weapon stats. Descendant and weapon configurations are separate: each Descendant has its own configurations, owned Modules can be used across Descendants, and configurations are set individually for each weapon. Character loadouts let you save different setups.

| Module category | What it affects |
|---|---|
| Descendant Modules: Normal | Descendant stats and build choices. |
| Descendant Modules: Skill | Modify or reshape Descendant skills; a Descendant can equip one Skill Module. |
| Descendant Modules: Sub | Improve melee and mobility actions; a Descendant can equip one Sub Module. |
| Weapon Modules | Enhance firearm stats and are grouped by ammunition type: General, Special, Impact, and High-Power Rounds. |
Weapon Modules also have group restrictions: within a weapon group, you can equip only one Module of each type. These restrictions and the capacity limit mean a build is a set of deliberate trade-offs, not a place to install every useful effect.
How module slots and capacity limit a build
Every equipped Module uses some of the build’s Max Module Capacity. If the total cost exceeds the available capacity, you cannot equip the full combination. Before investing in an option, compare its effect with its capacity cost and check that it fits the relevant Descendant or weapon slot and group rules.

Socket types can reduce that cost. When a Module’s type matches the socket type assigned to its slot, its required capacity is halved. A matching socket can therefore make room for other Modules without changing their effects. Nexon’s current guide lists five socket types; check the live game for the type assigned to a particular slot.
Enhance Modules with Kuiper Shards
Use Kuiper Shards to enhance Modules. The official guide says Kuiper Shards come from missions and from dismantling Modules. Enhancement improves a Module’s stats, and can also change its capacity behavior. The guide gives a maximum enhancement level of 10, subject to Mastery Rank.

- Skill Modules: their capacity cost falls as their enhancement level rises.
- Sub Modules: enhancing them increases the Descendant’s Max Module Capacity.
Because enhancement affects both performance and capacity, consider its effect on the complete setup rather than judging a Module only by its listed stat bonus.
Expand capacity and assign socket types
Energy Activators
An Energy Activator increases Max Module Capacity. Nexon’s guide says this upgrade can be applied once per Descendant or weapon, so choose where to use it with the build’s long-term needs in mind.

Crystallization Catalysts
At Descendant Level 40 or Weapon Proficiency 40, a Crystallization Catalyst can assign a socket type to a slot. Nexon’s guide says assigning a socket resets the Descendant or weapon’s level to 1; for Descendants, skills remain available. The guide allows up to 12 assigned Descendant sockets, including Skill and Sub sockets, and up to 10 weapon sockets.
Socket assignment is a lasting build investment: the matching type halves the capacity cost of a Module in that slot, but the level reset means you should account for the return to level 1 before assigning it. Use sockets to support the Modules you actually plan to equip, rather than treating every open slot as an automatic upgrade.

Combining Modules
At Module Master Silion, combine four Modules to obtain one new Module. This is a separate way to pursue Modules from acquiring them through missions or the shop, and the result is a new Module rather than a direct capacity or socket upgrade.
Choosing a build that fits the content
Nexon’s guide recommends configuring for the content and enemy type; it does not identify one universally best build. For each slot, weigh the Module’s effect against its cost after socket matching, any group or slot restriction, its enhancement impact on capacity, and whether it suits the Descendant or weapon and the mission you are preparing for.
- Start with the skill or weapon behavior you want to improve.
- Check whether the Module fits its category, slot, and group restrictions.
- Account for its capacity cost, including any reduction from a matching socket.
- Consider how enhancement changes the Module’s effect or capacity use.
- Choose for the Descendant, weapon, mission, and enemy rather than chasing a single build for every situation.
Module acquisition in Update 1.4.3
Nexon’s Update 1.4.3 notes, dated September 16, 2026 and revised through October 6, 2026, add the Trigger Module “Freezing Breakthrough.” The notes also say Silion’s Archive Shard shop offers Normal, Rare, and Ultimate Modules, but not Transcendent, Trigger, or Ancestors Modules. These shop categories and acquisition details describe that dated patch state and can change with later updates.
